just one question. Please do tel me wts AIR NEEDLE and LOW JET used for again. ? i mean how and what do they work?
The air needle is like a transitional restriction to increase vacuum pressure and tapered to prime the main jet flow gradually to ramp up fuel flow from the idle/low circuit to the main circuit. Think of the circuits like gears or stairs. The needle covers transition between 3rd gear to about 5th gear on a six speed. It overlaps basically. Fuel is getting by it from the idle/low- on through to where it's completely out of the way of the main jet and the main jet fuel flow is roaring like the straw/compressor example.
Without the needle the carb would work, but not as smoothly through middle throttle (where most people ride and have the most fine input or throttle roll back and forth.
The low jet is like second gear on a transmission. You can shift from 1st to 3rd, but again you risk stalling and it won't be as smooth. Also there isn't really the mechanical inertia to carry the process on like you have with a rolling vehicle with a flywheel on the engine and the wheels turning. The pistons still create vacuum every other time they go down, but air just doesn't have the punch that steel does when in motion.
The circuits in a carburetor have to be there or you would have a limit on RPM range. An idle jet can't deliver enough fuel to really scream, and the main jet couldn't go slow and would be VERY hard to start because the engine would have to be spun up really fast. So you have usually four or five circuits (I want to say jets, but their physically different) that get air flow like stairs as the throttle opens. They are typically 1. Starting circuit (choke on) 2. Idle circuit 3. low jet 4. Jet Needle 5. Main jet.

Saved thanks best video yet Im having issues with my dr650 it has a bst40 carb on it I think one of the Jets might be clogged my symptoms are as follow doesn't turn on unless I give it gas and when I release the gas it shuts off while on and revving it's backfiring like crazy bike only has 6K miles 2018 Suzuki dr650 I dumped the gas replace spark plugs removed little filter built into carburetor and installed an inline fuel filter added seafoam and problem still exist can you give me some pointers please your videos by far the most informative I found thanks
Hi - great video and very helpful. I just have an issue with my BSA C15, it starts very good and tick-over is nice and smooth but when I open up the throttle quickly it dies unless its on full choke. On full choke it revs great no matter how quickly I open the throttle. Hope you can help, oh one more thing, it is a brand new Amal monobloc 376 that I installed straight out the box.
Thank you for explaining in detail. my carb won’t idle , yam 50 raptor 2008. It dies before idle or revs extremely high . How important is it to have the carb boot secured while trying to get it tuned.. not fined tuned .? I’m looking for leaks but nothing? I don’t want to tear the 4wheeler apart
Sir i think you just solved my grandson problem because his 125 chinese atv runs but if you try to give it gas she dies so we got some blocked jets.its been sitting for awhile due to being winter and his parents grounding and of course we dint drain the carb , duh... But ill order a new carb for 14 dollars and just to see if we can fix our problem we'll clean the old one just for tid bits and giggles to see if we can fillow instruction.i thank you sir for yor time and knowledge you are deeply appreciated

I think you have two principle at work . One is the Bernoulli’s principle , where the water gets sucked out of the straw, and the other is the Venturi effect where the air is restricted to create a fast flow.
My quad bike back fires really bad i get flames out of the exhaust and carb and won’t tick over i dud get fuel coming out if the overflow as well loads of fuel so had to empty my fuel tank to stop it dose that mean my carb is faulty cheers mate im in the uk 👍
You are the man! I'm working on carburetors in a Kawasaki Ninja and a Vulcan right now, and I feel way more like I understand this part of the engine. Now I just gotta make sure I understand why one of those air filters is all moist with gasoline...
when you bottom that air fuel mixture screw do so very gently and with the spring in place or you take a chance of busting off the tip in the hole and you will never get it out and carb is shot just my 2 cents
WOW GREAT VIDEO! Question. im having so carb trouble hence the reason Im watching your video. I bought my son a 110cc atv and the carb setup is very similar to this. My problem is that right at start up the engine just about max revs. I have spent all day trying to figure this out and this is what ive done. I removed the carb and cleanedcheck the barrel to see if it was sticking. the barrel and needle are reaching all the way to the bottom.the throttle cable is is working properlycheck the gaskets for air leaks. Everything is functioning as it should.Can you shed some light here?
very helpful, except i wanted a closer view of the main jet and whether it sticks up muc into that little horseshoe brass venturi piece.. i lost the main jet for an old carb so i am making another one on the lathe. so far the bike runs and is rideable, but bogs with too much throttle, the main jet needs some more thinking...
p.s how much space should there be around the needle inside the main jet for the gas to slip past? how big should the hole be. how much of a gap around the outside of the main jet should there be for the air bypass to flow through? should i make the top of the main jet completely flat or put a slight dish/ cup/ recess/ concave shape/ bigger drill hole in it for the petrol to sit in? would that make it run significantly worse? its such finicky work...
I highly recommend you choose OpenCL for AMD cards and CUDA for nVidia cards. You should probably leave the CPU miner alone because the hash rate will be very low compared to your GPU, which is capable of doing many parallel computations at the same time.
