Defeating Machine Learning: What Your Security Vendor Is Not Telling You

50:58
by Bob Klein & Ryan Peters Machine learning is rapidly gaining popularity in the security space. Many vendors and security professionals are touting this new technology as the ultimate malware defense. While evidence from both research and practice validates the improved efficacy of machine learning-based approaches, their drawbacks are rarely discussed. In this talk, we will demonstrate, from an attacker's perspective, how commonly deployed machine learning defenses can be defeated. We then step back and examine how existing systemic issues in the network security industry allow this to occur, and begin the discussion with the community about these issues. Finally, we propose a solution that uses novel data sourcing techniques to address these problems.

The PMML Path towards True Interoperability in Data Mining

03:15
As the de facto standard for data mining models, the Predictive Model Markup Language (PMML) provides tremendous benefits for business, IT, and the data mining industry in general, since it allows for predictive models to be easily moved between applications. Due to the cross-platform and vendor-independent nature of such an open-standard, auto-generated PMML code is often represented in different versions of PMML. A tool may export PMML 2.1 and another import PMML 4.0. This problem raises the issue of conversion. For true interoperability, PMML needs to be easily converted from one version to another. This presentation, given at the KDD 2011 PMML Workshop, describes the capabilities associated with the "PMML Converter". This application represents a great step in the PMML path towards true interoperability in data mining. Besides converting older versions of PMML to its latest, the PMML converter checks PMML files for syntax issues and, if issues are encountered, automatically corrects them. Finally, auto-generated PMML code can omit important data pre-processing steps which are an integral part of a predictive solution. The "Transformations Generator" aims to bridge this gap by providing a graphical interface for the development and expression of data pre-processing steps in PMML. Both tools: PMML Converter and the Transformations Generator, can be found at http://www.zementis.com/pmml_tools.htm

Supplier Quality Analysis

10:03
This industry sample focuses on one of the typical supply chain challenges — supplier quality analysis. Two primary metrics are at play in this analysis: total number of defects and the total downtime that these defects caused. This sample has two main objectives: understand who the best and worst suppliers are, with respect to quality, and identify which plants do a better job finding and rejecting defects, to minimize downtime. #HITB2012KUL D1T1 - Chris Wysopal - Data Mining a Mountain of Vulnerabilities

01:03:08
PRESENTATION MATERIALS: http://conference.hitb.org/hitbsecconf2012kul/materials/ PRESENTATION ABSTRACT: Every day, software developers around the world, from Bangalore to Silicon Valley, churn out millions of lines of insecure code. We used static binary analysis on thousands of applications submitted to us by large enterprises, commercial software vendors, open source projects, and software outsourcers, to create an anonymized vulnerability data set. By mining this data we can answer some interesting questions. There are significant differences in the quantity and types of vulnerabilities in software due to differences in where the software was developed, the type of software it is, in what language it was developed, and for what type of business the software was developed for. Which industries have the most secure and least secure code? What types of mistakes do developers make most often? Which languages and platforms have the apps with the most vulnerabilities? Should you be most worried of internally built apps, open source, commercial software, or outsourcers? How do latent vulnerabilities relate to those most often exploited. These questions and many more will be answered as we tunnel through vulnerability mountain. ABOUT CHRIS WYSOPAL Chris Wysopal (AKA Weld Pond), Veracode's CTO and Co-Founder, is responsible for the company's software security analysis capabilities. In 2008 he was named one of InfoWorld's Top 25 CTO's and one of the 100 most influential people in IT by eWeek. In 2010 he was named a SANS Security Thought Leader. One of the original vulnerability researchers and a member of L0pht Heavy Industries, he has testified on Capitol Hill in the US on the subjects of government computer security and how vulnerabilities are discovered in software. Chris was one of the first vulnerability researchers for web applications and Windows, publishing advisories in Lotus Domino, Cold Fusion, and Windows back in the mid 1990′s. Around the same time he also co-authored L0phtCrack, which he still sells today, and ported netcat to Windows. He graduated from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a BS in Computer & Systems Engineering and is the author of "The Art of Software Security Testing" published by Addison-Wesley.

Blackhat 2012 EUROPE - Data Mining a Mountain of Zero Day Vulnerabilities

50:09
This video is part of the Infosec Video Collection at SecurityTube.net: http://www.securitytube.net Blackhat 2012 EUROPE - Data Mining a Mountain of Zero Day Vulnerabilities Every day, software developers around the world, from Bangalore to Silicon Valley, churn out millions of lines of insecure code. We used static binary analysis on thousands of applications submitted to us by large enterprises, commercial software vendors, open source projects, and software outsourcers, to create an anonymized vulnerability data set. By mining this data we can answer some interesting questions. Which industries have the most secure and least secure code? What types of mistakes do developers make most often? Which languages and platforms have the apps with the most vulnerabilities? Should you be most worried of internally built apps, open source, commercial software, or outsourcers? These questions and many more will be answered as we tunnel through zero day mountain. https://media.blackhat.com/bh-eu-12/Wysopal/bh-eu-12-Wysopal-State_of_Software_Security-WP.pdf https://media.blackhat.com/bh-eu-12/Wysopal/bh-eu-12-Wysopal-State_of_Software_Security-Slides.pdf

The Hadoop Data Warehouse: The Role of Open Source Software in Data Analytics | DataEDGE 2016

31:42
Justin Borgman & Kurt Brown Open source software is having a profound impact on the way that data practitioners collect, manage, and analyze data. Technologies like Hadoop are driving down costs, eliminating vendor lock-in, and democratizing access to Big Data. For users of these technologies, there has never been a better time to start a data-driven business. For vendors, there has never been such a disruptive period in the industry's roughly 40-year history. Join Teradata VP & GM Justin Borgman and Netflix's Data Platform Director, Kurt Brown us for a discussion about what this transformation means for users and vendors alike. Justin Borgman Vice President and General Manager Teradata Center for Hadoop Justin Borgman is Vice President and General Manager of the Teradata Center for Hadoop, where he is responsible for the company's portfolio of Hadoop products. Prior to joining Teradata, Justin was co-founder and CEO of Hadapt, the pioneering "SQL-on-Hadoop" company that democratized Big Data Analytics for the enterprise. Before that, Justin led product development for COVECTRA, an anti-counterfeit technology firm. He began his career as a software developer at MIT Lincoln Laboratory and Raytheon. IRISS Vendor Show Case - Cunesoft Presentation

10:58
http://cunesoft.com/en/products/idmp/ This is the Cunesoft presentation during the IRISS vendor show case. It focuses on a 5 steps end to end IDMP solution. The fist step is the data mining and coding part from unstructured data sources. To support this step, Cunesoft developed a content analysis framework called cune-Distiller, which comes with a pre-defined IDMP extraction configuration What’s most important to know is that the system is using several different extraction strategies at the same time: neural networks, natural language processing, fuzzy logic, and deep learning. When combined them the right way, we can confidently extract information from the documents mentioned before. You will see all 5 major steps in detail (Each step is relevant in the IDMP data collections process) Step 1 is data mining. Step 2 is data coding. Then we will look into consolidating the data from various source documents in step 3. Step 4 then is the quality check and data curation. The final step is to export the data into a target system. for more information please write us at [email protected]

SAP GUI Scripting - Extract SAP report data to Excel

This video provides and example of running GUI scripts to export table contents via SE16, or queries via SE38. This data is exported to CSV and loaded to Excel to be manipulated there. GUI scripting allows external applications like MS Excel to connect to an existing GUI session and execute operations within the GUI. Excel does not hold and authorization and access information as it relies on you logging into SAP first. This example is in CRM but it can be used in any GUI based SAP system. Data Mining OpenStreetMap with Overpass-turbo | Mapbox GL JS

08:56
OpenStreetMap (OSM) is built and maintained collaboratively by a group of enthusiastic mappers. It all started in 2004 – Steve Coast was frustrated with the state of maps in the UK. Although the government had large chunks of data stashed away, the data really didn’t solve any problem. Also, the map space was closed; there were only a few vendors offering data and services and if you wanted a solution related to geospatial entities (terrain information, driving direction, city map), you would pay for data which by the way was closed for extensibility and customization. Almost around the same time, the success of Wikipedia caught Steves interest. He decided to replicate the same crowdsourced model for maps. Later that year, he founded OpenStreetMap. In this video, you will learn how to extract data from OpenStreetMap. Link to GitHub repo - https://github.com/viswesh/Maps/tree/master/chapter5 I'm active on Twitter - https://twitter.com/viswesh
