Jeep Cherokee 2019 4WD System Explained

02:02
The 2019 Jeep Cherokee highlights a choice of three innovative 4x4 systems that have been enhanced for unmatched 4x4 capability for all weather conditions. Jeep Cherokee maintains its place as the benchmark mid-size SUV with rear-axle disconnect technology that results in reduced energy loss when 4x4 capability isn’t needed, while improving fuel efficiency. The rear-axle disconnect seamlessly switches between two- and four-wheel drive for full-time torque management and does not require input from the driver. Jeep Active Drive I Available on the Cherokee Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited and Overland models, Jeep Active Drive I features an all-new design for Cherokee. Jeep engineers set out to reduce weight and enhance efficiency of the next-generation rear drive module (RDM), which is fully automatic and delivers seamless operation in and out of four-wheel drive at any speed. The result of this new state-of-the-art technology is reduced weight of nearly 17 lbs., and a reduction of low-speed system drag torque by 50 percent, which improves fuel savings. The system does not require any driver intervention or feedback, delivers yaw correction during dynamic events, and improves during both understeer and oversteer conditions. Jeep Active Drive II Available on the Cherokee Latitude, Latitude Plus, Limited and Overland models, the recalibrated Jeep Active Drive II includes a two-speed Power Transfer Unit (PTU) with torque management and low range. The 4-Low mode locks the front and rear driveshafts for low-speed power or towing. Low range provides a 2.92:1 gear reduction that allows for enhanced climbing ability, as well outstanding crawl ratios for severe off-road conditions. The 2019 Jeep Cherokee with Jeep Active Drive II gives the off-road adventurer a ride height increase of one inch, a crawl ratio of 51:2:1 when powered by the 2.0-liter direct injection turbocharged inline four-cylinder engine, and a crawl ratio of 48.3:1 when powered by the 3.2-liter Pentastar V-6 engine. Also, the system has a Neutral state that allows for flat-towing with all four wheels on the ground. Jeep Active Drive Lock Jeep Active Drive Lock includes all the features of Jeep Active Drive II and adds a locking rear differential for superior low-speed traction for severe off-road conditions. Jeep Active Drive Lock is standard on all Trailhawk models. All 4x4 systems feature the Jeep brand’s renowned Selec-Terrain traction control system, which allows the driver to choose the on- and off-road setting for optimum performance. Five customized settings are offered: Auto, Snow, Sport, Sand/Mud and Rock. Through the use of algorithms that enable unsurpassed control and capability, Selec-Terrain electronically coordinates and optimizes up to 12 systems on any terrain, providing enhanced vehicle control including: drivetrain control module, electronic brake controller, electronic stability control (ESC), transmission controller, powertrain controller and Selec-Speed Control (Hill-ascent and Hill-descent Control). Facebook Fraud

09:00
Evidence Facebook's revenue is based on fake likes. My first vid on the problem with Facebook: http://bit.ly/1dXudqY I know first-hand that Facebook's advertising model is deeply flawed. When I paid to promote my page I gained 80,000 followers in developing countries who didn't care about Veritasium (but I wasn't aware of this at the time). They drove my reach and engagement numbers down, basically rendering the page useless. I am not the only one who has experienced this. Rory Cellan-Jones had the same luck with Virtual Bagel: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-18819338 The US Department of State spent $630,000 to acquire 2 million page likes and then realized only 2% were engaged. http://wapo.st/1glcyZo I thought I would demonstrate that the same thing is still happening now by creating Virtual Cat (http://www.facebook.com/MyVirtualCat). I was surprised to discover something worse - false likes are coming from everywhere, including Canada, the US, the UK, and Australia. So even those carefully targeting their campaigns are likely being duped into spending real money on fake followers. Then when they try to reach their followers they have to pay again. And it's possible to be a victim of fake likes without even advertising. Pages that end up on Facebook's "International Suggested Pages" are also easy targets for click-farms seeking to diversify their likes. http://tnw.co/NsflrC Thanks to Henry, Grey, and Nessy for feedback on earlier drafts of this video.

"Creating New Sources of Data and Embedded Systems to Understand Cities" - Charlie Catlett

58:49
About the Speaker: Charlie Catlett is a Senior Computer Scientist at Argonne National Laboratory, a Senior Fellow at the Argonne/University of Chicago Computation Institute, and a Senior Fellow at the Harris School of Public Policy at the University of Chicago. Charlie founded the Urban Center for Computation and Data (UrbanCCD), an interdisciplinary center focused on developing methods and platforms for understanding cities. He leads the NSF-funded Array of Things project, establishing a network of 500 intelligent sensor units in Chicago. Government Technology magazine named Charlie one of 25 “Doers, Dreamers & Drivers” of 2016 and in 2014 Crain’s Chicago Business recognized him as one of Chicago’s “Tech 50” technology leaders. Charlie is a Computer Engineering graduate of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Abstract: Urbanization is one of the great challenges and opportunities of this century, inextricably tied to global challenges ranging from climate change to sustainable use of energy and natural resources, and from personal health and safety to accelerating innovation and education. There is a growing science community—spanning nearly every discipline—pursuing research related to these challenges. The availability of urban data has increased over the past few years, in particular through open data initiatives, creating new opportunities for collaboration between academia and local government in areas ranging from scalable data infrastructure to tools for data analytics, along with challenges such as replicability of solutions between cities, integrating and validating data for scientific investigation, and protecting privacy. For many urban questions, however, new data sources will be required with greater spatial and/or temporal resolution, driving innovation in the use of sensors in mobile devices as well as embedding intelligent sensing infrastructure in the built environment. Collectively these data sources also hold promise to begin to integrate computational models associated with individual urban sectors such as transportation, building energy use, or climate. Catlett will discuss the work that Argonne National Laboratory and the University of Chicago are doing in partnership with the City of Chicago and other cities through the Urban Center for Computation and Data, focusing in particular on new opportunities related to embedded systems and integrated data platforms.

BSSR Lecture Series: PTSD Treatment and Prevention

01:11:22
Speaker - Barbara O. Rothbaum, Ph.D., ABPP, Emory University School of Medicine In the US, approximately 70% of adults will experience a traumatic event and 20% will develop posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Both civilian and combat-related PTSD are major public health concerns with long term medical and mental health sequelae. Initial but transient PTSD symptoms may be considered part of the normal reaction to trauma, as they occur almost universally following severe enough traumas. In contrast, those who suffer from chronic PTSD show decreasing PTSD symptoms in the first month following trauma, which then remain fairly steady across time. They do not worsen; they just don't extinguish their original fear reactions. Therefore, PTSD can be viewed as a failure of recovery caused in part by a failure of fear extinction following trauma. Exposure therapy follows the same paradigms as extinction training and has received more evidence of its efficacy for treating PTSD than any other intervention. In this lecture, PTSD will be reviewed and treatments for PTSD will be discussed, with data on the efficacy of each, including exposure therapy (both imaginal exposure and virtual reality exposure therapy), EMDR, and pharmacotherapy. These are treatments for chronic PTSD. An important goal is secondary prevention, trying to intervene for those at risk in an attempt to prevent the development of PTSD. In the same way that there are rapid ED-based protocols for stroke or heart attack, we envision a personalized ED-based rapid intervention protocol that may prevent the development of PTSD following trauma. In translational research based on basic, preclinical, and clinical models for the consolidation of fear memories, pilot data with 137 emergency department (ED) patients seen an average of 11-12 hours after trauma exposure, randomly assigned to receive 3 sessions of exposure therapy beginning in the ED or assessment only, will be presented and discussed.

3: Theory and Practice of Freedom of Expression

02:22:20
One of the thorniest faces of free speech debate is the tension between free expression as an abstract principle and kinds of speech that harm, such as hate speech, incitements to violence, or uses of information which can cause economic damage or threaten security or privacy. And technologies change how information can move, and harm. This week we put a historian of the earliest post-printing-press debates over free speech in dialog with a historian of the information practices of hate groups in America. Auburn Coach Wife Kristi Malzahn Agrees with Match & eHarmony: Men are Jerks

12:23
My advice is this: Settle! That's right. Don't worry about passion or intense connection. Don't nix a guy based on his annoying habit of yelling "Bravo!" in movie theaters. Overlook his halitosis or abysmal sense of aesthetics. Because if you want to have the infrastructure in place to have a family, settling is the way to go. Based on my observations, in fact, settling will probably make you happier in the long run, since many of those who marry with great expectations become more disillusioned with each passing year. (It's hard to maintain that level of zing when the conversation morphs into discussions about who's changing the diapers or balancing the checkbook.) Obviously, I wasn't always an advocate of settling. In fact, it took not settling to make me realize that settling is the better option, and even though settling is a rampant phenomenon, talking about it in a positive light makes people profoundly uncomfortable. Whenever I make the case for settling, people look at me with creased brows of disapproval or frowns of disappointment, the way a child might look at an older sibling who just informed her that Jerry's Kids aren't going to walk, even if you send them money. It's not only politically incorrect to get behind settling, it's downright un-American. Our culture tells us to keep our eyes on the prize (while our mothers, who know better, tell us not to be so picky), and the theme of holding out for true love (whatever that is—look at the divorce rate) permeates our collective mentality. Even situation comedies, starting in the 1970s with The Mary Tyler Moore Show and going all the way to Friends, feature endearing single women in the dating trenches, and there's supposed to be something romantic and even heroic about their search for true love. Of course, the crucial difference is that, whereas the earlier series begins after Mary has been jilted by her fiancé, the more modern-day Friends opens as Rachel Green leaves her nice-guy orthodontist fiancé at the altar simply because she isn't feeling it. But either way, in episode after episode, as both women continue to be unlucky in love, settling starts to look pretty darn appealing. Mary is supposed to be contentedly independent and fulfilled by her newsroom family, but in fact her life seems lonely. Are we to assume that at the end of the series, Mary, by then in her late 30s, found her soul mate after the lights in the newsroom went out and her work family was disbanded? If her experience was anything like mine or that of my single friends, it's unlikely. And while Rachel and her supposed soul mate, Ross, finally get together (for the umpteenth time) in the finale of Friends, do we feel confident that she'll be happier with Ross than she would have been had she settled down with Barry, the orthodontist, 10 years earlier? She and Ross have passion but have never had long-term stability, and the fireworks she experiences with him but not with Barry might actually turn out to be a liability, given how many times their relationship has already gone up in flames. It's equally questionable whether Sex and the City's Carrie Bradshaw, who cheated on her kindhearted and generous boyfriend, Aidan, only to end up with the more exciting but self-absorbed Mr. Big, will be better off in the framework of marriage and family. (Some time after the breakup, when Carrie ran into Aidan on the street, he was carrying his infant in a Baby Björn. Can anyone imagine Mr. Big walking around with a Björn?)
