The life on a mining village in Western Australia
After working 9 months in different mining sites around Western Australia, I decided to make this little video after realizing that unless you've been there, it's really hard to imagine what is it to live on a mine site village. World's Deepest Mine - Gold Alchemy
South Africa's TauTona mine, real life alchemy, and Halicephalobus Mephisto. Footage from the 2012 documentary, "Down to the Earth's Core". We have travelled into space and looked deep into the universe's depths, but the world beneath our feet remains unexplored and unseen. Now, that's about to change. For the first time in one epic unbroken shot, we embark on an impossible mission - using spectacular computer generated imagery to smash through three thousand miles of solid rock, and venture from our world into the underworld and on to the core of the Earth itself. It's a journey fraught with danger. One thousand feet down we find ourselves inside one of the planet's most volatile places - the San Andreas Fault. Caught between two huge rock slabs, we watch as stress builds and then releases. It unleashes an earthquake and blasts us on towards rivers of molten rock, explosive volcanoes, tears in the Earth's crust and giant tornadoes of liquid metal. But for every danger, there are wonders beyond imagination. Four hundred feet below the surface, a three hundred million year old fossilized forest, with every leaf and every piece of bark perfectly preserved. At one thousand feet down we enter a cave of giant crystals, glistening in deadly 122 degree heat. More than two miles underground we find buried treasure - gold and gems. Deeper still there are valuable resources - salt, oil, coal and iron. And over one hundred miles down we see the sparkling beauty of diamonds. As we descend we piece together our planet's extraordinary story. We rewind time to discover how prehistoric forests became modern-day fuel. 1700 feet down a layer of rock reveals the extraordinary story of the dinosaurs' cataclysmic death. We watch stalactites form and gold grow before our eyes. The deeper we travel into the underworld the more we understand our world above the surface. A bigger picture takes shape - a cycle of destruction and creation, driven by the core that sustains our dynamic planet and makes the Earth the only planet with life in a seemingly lifeless universe. Until, finally, three thousand miles down, we reach the core. Inside it lie the secrets of life as we know it - the magnetic force field that protects life on Earth from the sun's deadly rays, the ancient heat source that keeps our planet alive. Down to the Earth's Core brings the latest science together with breathtaking computer generated imagery. The result is an unmissable journey into an extraordinary world - full of dangers, wonders and secrets. And it's all down there, beneath our feet, right now waiting to be discovered.

The Tin Mine
Synopsis Set in 1950 and based on the series of autobiographical short stories by Archin Panjabhan, the beginning finds Archin (Pijaya Vachajitpan) expelled from Bangkok’s Chulalongkorn University in his sophomore year. He is packed off to southern Thailand, where he has supposedly has a job waiting for him. It’s in a remote, mountainous jungle that doesn’t even “rate a spot on the map”, a place that is little but all-consuming red mud and seemingly endless, torrential downpours. Archin arrives, letter of recommendation in hand, at the mining company office, only to be told that there are no jobs. The company’s superintendent, Sam, a stern Australian veteran of the Death Railway asks Archin if he is willing to do manual labor. Archin answers to the affirmative and he’s hired. He’s even given a house of his own, (which happens to haunted). Everyone, from the lowliest Malaysian laborers to John, the burly chief of the mining staff, derides Ajin as a “Bangkok boy” who isn’t fit for hard work and Archin is constantly put to the test. Eventually, he becomes a trusted, integral member of the company, working as a surveyor.

Top 10 Countries With The LARGEST Gold Reserves!
Check out these 10 countries with the largest gold reserves in the world! This top 10 list features some of the richest and wealthiest countries on earth that have tons of gold bars stacked up somewhere! Subscribe For New Videos! http://goo.gl/UIzLeB Watch our "SURPRISING And Interesting Facts About Money!" video here: https://youtu.be/ONpChSPqVc4 Watch our "Most AMAZING Discoveries With A Metal Detector!" video here: https://youtu.be/45JveYKafVo Watch our "Most EXPENSIVE Diamonds In The World!" video here: https://youtu.be/RcZATf3Lmb0 10.) India According to the World Gold Council, the Bank of India currently holds 557.7 tons of gold. It is one of the largest stores of gold in the world! This makes up 9.9 % of the country’s total foreign reserve. Foreign exchange reserves is money or other assets held by a nation’s central bank so they can back the national currency. India, home to 1.25 billion people, is the number one largest consumer of the precious metal. Furthermore, India is one of the most reliable drivers of global demand. For example, India’s festival and wedding season, which runs from October to December, has historically been a major market for gold. And probably, one of the most interesting facts about India and gold is that India rarely invests much in gold. This is because as a country, India operates under the belief that buying gold leads to a deficit. And their belief must be proving right as things also seem to be improving for India. For instance, if you look at the last few years, India has increased its gold reserves from 557.74 to 557.77. While this might not seem like a lot, India is also at its highest point in history! In addition to what the country holds, Indian households which are considered the world’s largest hoarders of gold, hold a record 23,000-24,000 tons, which is worth about $800 billion. 9.) Netherlands In the past few years, the Netherlands has held 52% of its foreign reserve in gold. The Netherlands has a reported 612.45 tons. In 2016 it was reported that the bank was looking for a place to store all its gold because they were going to renovate the vaults and needed to moving it. The Dutch central bank is planning to move the country’s gold reserves from the center of Amsterdam to a new complex called the Cash Center. Like most countries, Dutch gold is also held in banks around the world to reduce risk. Security measures to guard the gold 24/7 have become a problem in Amsterdam. 189,000 kilos of gold will be moved at the beginning of 2022. Maybe this is one reason that over the last decade and a half, the Netherlands was selling off tons of gold in order to reduce its reserve. However, there weren’t that many buyers out there and they sold less than the country wanted. More recently the country has had less ambition to sell gold. Currently, the country holds the same amount of tons, 612.45 that they have over the last few years. However, the country has increased its percentage of foreign reserves to 61.2 %. 8.) Japan Japan is another country which had been increasing its gold reserves since the 1960’s. Their official gold holdings were reported at 765.2 tons. About 2.4% of Japan’s gold today is in foreign reserve. Historically, Japan has always held a bit more gold than other countries. This was true until 2011, when they began to sell some of their reserve in order to pump money into the economy after the tsunami and the following Fukushima nuclear disaster. But even with selling, Japan’s central bank has been one of the most aggressive practitioners of quantitative easing. For example, in January of 2016, it lowered interest rates below zero, which has helped fuel demand in gold around the world. 7.) Switzerland Prior to 1997, Switzerland was steadily building its gold reserves. In 1997, the decision was made to sell some of those reserves to bolster the Swiss currency and diversify the foreign reserves. The percent of foreign reserves in Switzerland is currently 6.7 %. Switzerland actually has the world’s largest reserves of gold per capita and currently has reported 1,040 tons. Over time, many citizens in the country started to feel like the bank was getting rid of too much gold. They then banded together with the “Save the Swiss” movement. However, once everyone was able to vote in 2014, the vote came to a no, and gold continued to be sold. During World War II, Switzerland became the center of the gold trade in Europe, making transactions with both the Allies and Axis powers. Today, much of its gold trading is done with Hong Kong and China. Around last year, the Swiss National Bank made a $5.9 billion profit, reportedly from its gold holdings. The Mines Shopping Mall | The Mines Cruise Trip With My Family
The Mines Cruise is an enjoyable boat ride on two large lakes next to The Mines shopping mall in Seri Kembangan on the southern outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. The Lakes Mines Resort City was built from the late 1980s onwards on a site which was once the world's largest open cast tin mine, with a massive hole in the ground 2km long, one kilometer wide and 200 metres deep. When mining activities ceased the hole filled with rainwater and the two lakes were formed. The larger North Lake covers 150 acres and is 200 meters deep. It runs from The Mines shopping mall, past the mines Waterfront Business Park, the blue-domed Sapura Group HQ building and the Mines Resort & Golf Club. Two smart hotels also back onto this lake: the Palace of the Golden Horses and Philea MInes Beach Resort. The smaller South Lake is bordered by the Heritage condominiums, some luxury bungalows and the Australian School. The lakes are connected by a canal which runs through the shopping mall. Both lakes are teeming with fish including carp and large catfish. Herons, storks, ducks and monitor lizards feed here. The Cruises (Up-to-Date 2018 Prices) The main cruises available are: Discovery Cruise (North Lake). Duration 40 minutes. Adult RM38 Child RM25 Greenery Cruise (South Lake). Duration 20 minutes. Adult RM28 Child RM20 Amazing Cruise (Both Lakes) Duration 60 minutes. Adult RM48 Child RM30 Ride & Dine and Massage Cruises are also available. The boat driver stops the boat in various places to enable passengers to feed the fish, birds and ducks. The driver has fish food for sale at RM3 per pack. NB To access the North Lake (Discovery and Amazing Cruises) the boat has to pass through a lock (water lift) by which the boat is lowered 7 meters in 7 minutes. If you suffer from claustrophobia you might find the narrow enclosed lock somewhat uncomfortable (and hot) but it is an interesting experience. The Mines Shopping Mall There are not many shopping malls in the world which have a waterway flowing right through the middle but The Mines is one of them. The Mines shopping mall (previously called Mines Shopping Fair) was looking rather tired until a couple of years ago but it has since been taken over by the Singaporean mall operator, CapitaMalls Asia, who have revamped and upgraded the mall, improved management, installed better toilets, parking and so on. The mall includes a large number of computer and IT stores - they call it DigitaMart and claim it is the largest IT centre in the Southern Hemisphere. It certainly gives the more famous Plaza Low Yat IT lifestyle mall in Bukit Bintang a run for its money. Being less touristy than Low Yat, many say that The Mines has better pricing. For young kids, the mall has a roof top landscaped garden called Splash Park with a children's playground and water play area. There are plenty of places to eat in the mall. Try the durian puffs (stall located near the Mines Cruise ticket counter) for a sweet, creamy Malaysian treat (if you like the flavour of durians). Hotels The Palace of the Golden Horses is an impressive looking hotel on the northern shore of the lake. The palatial exterior is similar to the Medinat Jumeirah hotels in Dubai but it is older and, to be honest, is not quite in the same class. It is handy for the golf course. The Mines Wellness Hotel is aimed at medical tourism, particularly of the alternative therapy type, but caters for general tourists too. Both of these hotels have lakeside 'beaches' but it should be noted that the lake is not suitable for swimming unless you want to have your toes chewed off by giant catfish and monitor lizards! Verdict Is the Mines Resort City a suitable holiday destination for foreign tourists? No, not really unless you are a keen golfer. The location is far from most KL tourist attractions and once you have done the Mines Cruise there is not much else for tourists. However it is definitely worth visiting for the day for the boat trip and the shopping mall. Business travellers who have meetings in the vicinity (or attending a conference at the Mines International Exhibition Centre, MIECC) might find that Mines is a good place to be based to avoid KL city traffic. Location of Mines Cruise The location of The Mines is marked on the interactive map on the Top Selangor Attractions page. It is about 20 minutes drive from KLCC, traffic conditions permitting. The car park has been upgraded with overhead lights above each space, green indicating a vacant space. Serdang Komuter station is the closest railway station (KTM line) and there is a shuttle service available from the station to the mall. The Mines Cruise counter is found on Level 1 of the mall. Malayan Rubber and Tin, 1950's - Film 249
Malaya. Aerial shots of heavily wooded areas. Forests covering mountains. Ground shots travelling through the woodland. Women carrying large buckets balanced on sticks. A woman carves a tree to form a drainage channel for white sap (natural rubber), which is shown dripping into a small container. Lots of women carrying the buckets balanced across their shoulders, presumably full of the sap. A man ladles out the sap from a large container and places it into an upright cylinder. He puts an object in it which makes some of the sap overflow, and the object is then drawn out again. The natural rubber is poured into containers. A large train container carriage is marked latex and moves past. A man directs people surrounded by cut down trees. He walks to his car, gets in and drives off. He drives along a road, passing two people. He arrives at his destination and gets out. Meets a man in shorts and they shake hand briefly and talk. Scenes of mining, lots of industrial mining. A conveyor belt conveys mined earth from the mine location. Lots of earth being dug. Surplus earth is put into large troughs on rails which is winched up a hill. Mined earth is placed in a rotating beater and mixed with water. Dirty water being filtered out through a mesh. Men carrying buckets of water mixed with tin ore. Ships being unloaded by crane. Sacs being placed onto trolleys. Blast furnaces. Molten tin flowing. Tin ingots being lifted by a man onto a wheelbarrow. Port of Singapore, some large ships. A bus travels along a causeway, which connects Singapore with the Malayan peninsular. A map showing Malaya shipping routes. Lots of ships on water. A small boat travelling with a backdrop of large buldings. A packed dock. Men in shirts an ties standing outside a building (possibly a banking society). Busy streets, cars, cycle rickshaws, bicycles, and signs in English and Chinese. People walking in a market, mostly Asian. Busy market scenes. Fish, vegetables, rice and fruit in the markets.

Alluvial Gold Prospecting - How to get the most Gold from a Dry Creek Bed Part 2
This video is part 2 of "Alluvial Gold Prospecting - How to get the most Gold from a Dry Creek Bed". In this video, I process the dirt which I scraped up from a small 2 metre squared area of a dry creek bed ( gutter ) shown in the first video. Although the results we're not as good as I had hoped, they were still good. I ended up with around 5 grams of gold including a nice nugget...so around $250 (AUD) for half a days work was a good day indeed. Imagine what a few full days on a couple of hundred metres of that little creek ( washout gutter ) would produce...now that's payable ground. Happy prospecting. Aussie. China's trillion dollar plan to dominate global trade
It's about more than just economics. To learn more, visit https://reconnectingasia.csis.org/map/ Subscribe to our channel! http://goo.gl/0bsAjO China's Belt and Road Initiative is the most ambitious infrastructure project in modern history. It spans over 60 countries and will cost over a trillion dollars. The plan is to make it easier for the world to trade with China, by funding roads, railways, pipelines, and other infrastructure projects in Asia and Africa. China is loaning trillions of dollars to any country that's willing to participate and it's been a big hit with the less democratic countries in the region. This makes the BRI a risky plan as well. But China is pushing forward because its goals are not strictly economic, they're also geopolitical. To truly understand the international conflicts and trends shaping our world you need a big-picture view. From the Archives: Honderd Jaar Billiton (Dutch) (1960)
On 29 September 1860, articles of incorporation were signed and Billiton was created. For the centenary, Billiton commissioned "Honderd Jaar Billiton" by Het Cocktail-Trio. The song celebrated the achievements over Billiton's first century. Song lyrics One hundred years Billiton Precisely one hundred years ago, here in the Netherlands, far from the equator, a company was established. But the actual beginning, the true fountain of wealth, a broad stream of Tin, was offered by the island Billiton. Van Tuyl and John Loudon, two fearless men, took a chance on the island Billiton Often there was a beginning like this, now as well as then. A partnership needs to do it, first without their families. A postcard, almost white, a drill, a shaft, a tent. A region where nobody knows what’s in the ground. There you settle, close to the horizon, as a man from Billiton and think nothing of it. After the great adventure, the Tin discovery in the beginning, the broad stream of Tin was no longer exciting. One looked around the world, and applied some variation. When one found something else to continue with. With resin and Bauxite, pigment and pyrochlore and titanium dioxide the Billiton prevails. What is an era of Tin, Diniobium, Bauxite? happiness or only sorrow? What is the point? A new location every time By airplane or ship, always a different trip, following a fixed pattern. And over and over, on a mountaintop or in a valley, truly everywhere, the Billiton atmosphere. That’s how a mining company operates, despite some setbacks, which sometimes occurs, a noble way to spend time. The spoils are hoisted up, and put on transport, after which the dividend is meticulously determined. This is the way it will always go, on earth and in space, where one day one will go as well. The Billiton front and center.

Metro station, Malaysia
The excellent public transportation in Kuala Lumpur is partially responsible for the city's explosive growth from a small tin mining camp in the 1850s to the busy capital of Malaysia. Despite an expansive network of rail systems, buses, and even a monorail, much of the city's 7.2 million residents don't take advantage. Only an estimated 16% of residents use public transportation, the remaining choose to drive their own vehicles. Today, three modern light rail transit systems - including a monorail - make getting around the city easier than ever. Kuala Lumpur trains are a traveler's best friend for circumnavigating the city's infamous traffic and checking out the many things to do in Kuala Lumpur. Don't be intimidated when you first see the rail map; tickets are surprisingly cheap and the rail system is easy to navigate. Malaysia is a federal constitutional monarchy in Southeast Asia. It consists of thirteen states and three federal territories and has a total landmass of 329,847 square kilometres (127,350 sq mi) separated by the South China Sea into two similarly sized regions, Peninsular Malaysia and Malaysian Borneo. Land borders are shared with Thailand, Indonesia, and Brunei, and maritime borders exist with Singapore, Vietnam, and the Philippines. The capital city is Kuala Lumpur, while Putrajaya is the seat of the federal government. In 2010 the population exceeded 27.5 million, with over 20 million living on the Peninsula. Ancient mining town strikes the new gold
(9 Apr 2017) LEADIN: It's being hailed as the oil of the future and now lithium is about to transform the fortunes of a tiny ancient mining village in the Czech Republic. The metal is a key component for rechargeable batteries and is used in gadgets like mobile phones and tablets, but a huge surge in demand is on the horizon due to the rapid development of electric vehicles. STORYLINE: The small village of Cinovec, located on the Czech border with Germany, had a tin and later tungsten mining tradition dating back to 1378. It was abandoned in 1991 because it stopped being economically sustainable, but recent explorations have thrust it into the centre of a future boom by confirming a large deposit of lithium. The deposits here are considered the biggest on the European continent. It was known from the 1960s that lithium was here, but explorations didn't go ahead due to a lack of interest in the metal back then. The expected massive surge in demand for the metal - a key component in electric rechargeable batteries - means a revival of a centuries-long mining tradition in the northwestern Czech mountain range. The lightest of metals, it has a wide range of use from ceramics and greases to air treatment and medicine. But above all, it is a necessary part of rechargeable batteries. The predicted boom of electric cars and electric storage systems would be unlikely to happen without them. European Metals company (EMH) is listed on the London Stock Exchange and the Australian Securities Exchange in Sydney. Managing director Keith Coughlan says it is planning to open a mine at Cinovec in several years to produce at least 20,000 metric tons of lithium carbonate (about 3,800 tons of lithium) a year. That would put the country among the top five lithium makers in the world. "I believe it is a danger for Europe to continue to think that it can rely on Asia for its supply chain of battery related materials and in particular lithium. I think it is a very significant asset from a European perspective and I believe at some stage one of the major European end users will be interested in talking to us about supply from Cinovec," he says. "In terms of for how long (there could be a supply of lithium from the Cinovec mine), the study that we are currently doing plans on producing 20,000 tonnes per annum of lithium carbonate and the overall total resource is in excess of seven million tonnes of lithium carbonate equivalent. So as you can see, at that production rate there are many many years of production available from Cinovec," he adds. Czech company, Cinovecka Deponie has already secured all necessary permissions to extract lithium from a tailing, which is currently a sandy area with pines growing on it. Another company, Sanaka Industry, wants to do the same at a tailing in another area in the Ore Mountains near the town of Horni Slavkov. The spokesperson for both companies, Martin Frydl, underlines that despite growing demand, lithium isn't a guaranteed bet. "The industry can change, someone can come up with an invention for is instance, in the car industry, they would use hydrogen cells instead of lithium ones and so on. But at this time it looks like the lithium price is favourable, so the investment will be effective. But as any other investor we are working with some risk," he says. The tailings could yield a total of 7,500 metric tons of lithium with mining to start in next few years. Lithium can be found in brine deposits (Latin America), where most global reserves are believed to be, and in hard rocks (Australia, Czech Republic). Parts of the deposits here stretch to neighbouring Germany, where Canada's Baccanora company has been exploring it. Blow Hole at Wheal Coates, Chapel Porth, Cornwall - Veho Kuzo 2 1080p
Chapel Porth (near St Agnes) North Coast of Cornwall, England. Just below the famous Wheal Coates mine (and a little to the East) is this powerful Blow Hole. At High tide, the caves below the water line are covered by the sea and so the swell creates pressure (and vacuum) in the sealed up caves. If there's any crack, fissure or hole in the cave, the pressure escapes at enormous velocity - well over 100mph! Its awesome raw power is incredible to stand near. Coal, Steam, and The Industrial Revolution: Crash Course World History #32

While very few leaders were beheaded in the course of this one, it changed the lives of more people more dramatically than any of the political revolutions we've discussed. So, why did the Industrial Revolution happen around 1750 in the United Kingdom? Coal. Easily accessible coal, it turns out. All this, plus you'll finally learn the difference between James Watt and Thomas Newcomen, and will never again be caught telling people that your blender has a 900 Newcomen motor. Urban Guerillas song about Maralinga. A remote desert area north and west of Adelaide. One of the three sites the British government chose to test their nuclear bombs. Anyone living in, and all children growing up in Australia from 1956 to 1963 were exposed to nuclear radiation from British testing at Maralinga, Emu Fields and Montebello Islands. Some more directly than others depending on the proximity to or wind path from ground zero. The indigenous people were consequently the most affected and the least able to do anything about it. Regarding Australia as a colony of England the Bob Menzies led Coalition government (1949–1966) willingly accepted the guinea pig status of Australians with respect to the British.

Why Nigerian govt renamed Solid Minerals Ministry
The Federal Executive Council has renamed the Federal Ministry of Solid Minerals and approved a new roadmap for the growth and development of the nation’s mining sector. The ministry will now be known as Federal Ministry of Mines and Steel Development. The Minister of Mines and Steel Development, Kayode Fayemi, disclosed this when he addressed State House correspondents on the outcome of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting, which was presided over by President Muhammadu Buhari. He explained that, the new roadmap, seeks to grow the contribution of mining to the Gross Domestic Products (GDP) in line with the Federal Government’s determination to further diversify the nation’s economy. “What it seeks to do is to grow the contribution of mining to the GDP (Gross Domestic Product) in line with the president’s vision to diversify our revenue base in the country, stressing the place of agriculture and mining in that. “What distinguishes this roadmap, which builds on the old roadmap that was approved by the council in 2012, is its determination to set up an independent regulatory agency, which investors have been insisting on that the ministry which has been serving as facilitator should also not be the one that regulate them,’’ he said.

Melting Arctic ice means new economic opportunities: trade routes in the Arctic ocean, and access to natural resources. The Spanish Empire, Silver, & Runaway Inflation: Crash Course World History #25
In which John Green explores how Spain went from being a middling European power to one of the most powerful empires on Earth, thanks to their plunder of the New World in the 16th and 17th centuries. Learn how Spain managed to destroy the two biggest pre-Columbian civilizations, mine a mountain made of silver, mishandle their economy, and lose it all by the mid-1700s. Come along for the roller coaster ride with Charles I (he was also Charles V), Philip II, Atahualpa, Moctezuma, Hernán Cortés, and Francisco Pizarro as Spain rises and falls, and takes two empires and China down with them. Murray River Expedition 2009: Part 23 ~ Environmental Flows
The Murray has been kind to Dave so far, with flows extending to near the South Australian border. The main reason is the release of environmental flows to hydrate wetlands along the river, and south of Robinvale Dave discovers a pipe extracting water from the Murray to flood the Hattah-Kulkyne National Park.
