But in Botswana, it’'s a different story. The diamond has transformed Botswana from one of the poorest countries in the world, to one of the most prosperous and stable countries in Africa. An inspiring initiative has seen Botswana’'s vast diamond reserves, worth about three billion US dollars a year, being used to share wealth throughout the nation. Trade Consultant Ntetleng Masisi says “they used diamonds to bring about health facilities, education and a markedly improved quality of life. "The earnings from our exports of diamonds have really done a lot for us.”" But Botswana’'s reliance on diamond revenue means that the whole of the country’'s future is now in the hands of the diamond dealers…. Military drill with a dozen African nations next year

Visit our site for defence news http://www.defencereviews.com/ This video shows you that Military drill with a dozen African nations next year. India is now stepping-up efforts for a concrete military outreach to Africa after a diplomatic one to counter the deep strategic inroads made by China in the world’s second largest continent, even as the two Asian rivals continue with their shadow-boxing for influence in the Indian Ocean Region. India will conduct an “India-Africa Field Training Exercise (IAFTX)” in Pune from March 18 to 27 next year, which will see the participation of over a dozen countries ranging from Tanzania and Kenya to Ghana and South Africa, said defence ministry sources on Wednesday. “Though Indian armed forces do train some military personnel from a few African nations, the IAFTX will be the first-ever such exercise with several armies from Africa. The initial planning conference for IAFTX was held a few days ago, with the final one slated for end-January,” said a source. Interestingly, Army chief General Bipin Rawat is also slated to visit Tanzania and Kenya from December 17 to 20 to bolster defence cooperation. As part of its overall policy, India has also been holding defence cooperation talks with countries like Botswana, Egypt, Kenya, Lesotho, Mozambique, Morocco, Namibia, Nigeria, Rwanda, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia as well, say sources. The defence engagement with South Africa is, of course, at a much higher level. Warships and aircraft from India, South Africa and Brazil, for instance, held the sixth edition of the IBSAMAR naval exercise off Simons Town in October. “But India has not conducted any bilateral or multi-lateral exercise with other African nations like IAFTX despite long-standing ties with them,” said the source. The exercise will involve “humanitarian mine action” (de-mining and other protocols to handle landmines and explosives) and peace-keeping operations, in which India has decades of expertise, among other areas. The IAFTX endeavor, incidentally, comes at a time when India is wrapping up a hectic military diplomacy year, which saw it conducting exercises with all the P-5 countries (US, Russia, China, France and UK), apart from other powerhouses like Australia, Japan, South Africa and Brazil as well as Asean countries like Singapore, Vietnam, Malaysia, Indonesia and Thailand, as was earlier reported by TOI. But India, much like in the IOR, simply does not have the deep pockets like China for a massive economic and military engagement with Africa. Backed by its multibillion-dollar Belt and Road Initiative, which even has the US and Europe worried, China has fast expanded its footprint in Africa as the “New Great Game” plays out in the continent known for its minerals and other raw commodities. China in July, incidentally, had dismissed any new Sino-Indian rivalry in Africa, stressing the two Asian giants were on the same page in their efforts to assist the countries there. This had come soon after both President Xi Jinping and Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Rwanda, one after the other, while heading for the BRICS summit in South Africa. Zimbabwe's Blood Diamond Killing Fields

With shocking evidence now uncovered, Zimbabwe’'s diamond trade faces suspension. "We were told ‘here are the guns, sitting in the truck, do you want to stay?’" says Andrew Cranswick, CEO of the mining company who owns the rights to mine diamonds in Marange. After his company was evicted, the Marange fields were opened up to the people and tens of thousands of Zimbabweans came to dig, paying the police a commission. Yet the police didn'’t always play fair - "$15 million worth of diamonds were confiscated", says one former miner – and soon the police were replaced by Mugabe’s own military. "Mugabe needed a way to buy the loyalty of the army" says Ken Roth, "the military were ordered to kill". In the first week of November, helicopter gunships launched a massacre on the Marange diamond fields. Evidence has been collected of 200 deaths. Those who weren’'t killed were raped or crippled. "They told us if we wanted to go home we had to sleep with the men", says one woman, "the soldiers watched and laughed". Next month, the Kimberley process, the international body charged with stopping trade in conflict diamonds, will decide whether Zimbabwe should be suspended. Yet with many Western governments involved in Zimbabwe'’s diamond trade, a former delegate of the Kimberley process believes this deadly business may yet be protected. Largest diamond in Angola, Africa: 404 carat diamond found by Lulo Diamond Project - TomoNews

01:40
ANGOLA, AFRICA — The largest diamond discovered in Angola, Africa was announced Monday, Feb. 15. The 404.2 carat gem was mined by Lulo Diamond Project, a partnership between Australia's Lucapa Diamond Company Limited; Endiama E.P., Angola's national diamond company; and private investor Rosas & Pétalas. According to the Australian Broadcasting Corporation, the diamond, found in Angola, could be worth more than $20 million in Australian currency, or $14.3 million USD. And according to the announcement by Lucapa, New York-based diamond retailer Yehuda tested the new diamond's color and clarity and categorized it as a Type IIa stone, meaning it's virtually flawless. It is the largest found at the Lulo mine in Angola, where the project commenced in August 2015. The Lulo Diamond Project explores a 1,148 square-mile plot of land in central Angola and the area has so far produced more than 60 "large special diamonds," the company said. It is the 27th largest recorded diamond in the world, the first being a 3,106 carat gem, called the "Cullinan." It weighed in at 1.3 pounds and was discovered in South Africa in 1905. That stone was cut to adorn the royal scepter, one of Britain's crown jewels, and is on display at the Tower of London. The second largest weighed 1,111 carats and was found in November 2014 in Botswana. ------------------------------------------------------------- Welcome to TomoNews, where we animate the most entertaining news on the internets. Fracking in Botswana

13:36
Fracking is a highly controversial practise. Although it is an effective method of extracting natural gas, it is also a destructive and disruptive process. Fracking's detrimental effects have already been noticed in areas of long term operation and unfortunately for South Africa, these dangerous practises will soon be coming our way when fracking begins the Karoo. However South Africa is not the only country in Southern African to take this leap into hydraulic fracturing. Botswana has made provisions for shale gas extraction throughout the Kalahari landscape, even in some of the countries beautiful nature reserves. Contamination of ground water is one of the greatest concerns around fracking. Ground water not only an important resource for local communities but for the environment and its wildlife as well. We follow Jeff Barbee, a flimmaker and journalist, as he reveals both the effects of fracking and his findings in southern Africa.

Galane Gold (GG.V): Undervalued Conflict Free Gold Producer in Africa

11:20
http://goldstocktrades.com Galane Gold (GG.V) is 70% owned by Management, Institutions and large producer Iamgold (IAG). Galane is producing in Botswana which is ranked as the best country to mine in Africa. Botswana is known for Debeer’s diamonds with a AA credit rating and a stable legal and political system. It could soon be known for its conflict free and traceable gold. Galane just announced a deal with Samsung to supply gold to the electronics maker. Samsung put in an 18 month due diligence review of the Galane’s Mupane Gold Project which is forecasted to produce 50k ounces annually at a $1100 all in cost. Why is Samsung interested in Galane’s Gold? Gold is increasingly used in electronics. Samsung requires a secure supply of conflict free, traceable gold. Two years ago the SEC issued a ruling on conflict minerals which include gold, tungsten, tin and tantalum. Companies must report they are using conflict free metals from areas free from slave labor. This means companies like Apple and Samsung must prove the metals used in the phones are from stable areas. Many electronic companies are affected by this ruling as gold is increasing being used as a conductor which remains free from corrosion. There may be only a few dollars worth of gold in each device, but millions of devices are produced every year Most of that is not recycled and consumed. For Galane with a minuscule market cap of under $16 million to obtain a major cash rich financial partner is critical for the upside of the operation. Samsung could possibly help with expansion and exploration plans. As an investor it is good to know that before putting your own money the major corporations have done their own significant research of the asset. You can be sure Samsung hired the best consultants to examine Galane’s Mupane Operation. This project is extremely unique in the junior mining sector as it is in production , has major financial support with end users and institutions and is in a conflict free area of Africa. Galane has very little downside and a lot of upside. The downside is minimal as it is trading near its cash value of $11 million. The upside is incredible if gold moves higher. Every $100 move higher in the gold price is $5 million more in revenue. Galane is one of the most undervalued African gold producers and must be considered before more of the investment community becomes aware of it. Listen to my recent interview with Galane’s Chairman Ravi Sood by clicking here... Ravi is a financier and venture capitalist. Mr. Sood is the founder and former CEO of Navina Asset Management, a Toronto-based investment firm that was acquired by a major financial institution. Mr. Sood has also founded several natural resources based businesses including Feronia Inc., one of Africa's largest emloyers, where he serves as Chairman. Mr. Sood is also a director of Elgin Mining Inc. and TrueContext Mobile Solutions Corp. Mr. Sood holds a B.Mathematics(Hons) degree from the University of Waterloo. Disclosure: I own Galane and the company is a website sponsor.

South Africa is hosting the Africa Oil Week conference, with a host of topics coming under discussion. Front and centre of this year's gathering, though, is currently high oil prices as well as Africa's domination of OPEC by member numbers. Africa's presence in the cartel is encouraging a wave of optimism amongst the continent's newer oil producing countries to follow through on their own ambitions of growing their respective industries.
