The government of Sierra Leone has auctioned a 709 carat rough diamond, named the 'peace diamond', which will benefit its people. But the nation's sole operating diamond mine is on the verge of closure. That's led to a flurry of exploration to find a new diamond deposit. Sierra Leone is preparing for its national elections. It’s the country's fourth elections since the end of its 11-year civil war but only the second elections that’s being held without UN oversight. We know that violence has been a staple in recent elections, but that got us thinking about other aspects of life in the country. So what is life really like in Sierra Leone? » Subscribe to NowThis World: http://go.nowth.is/World_Subscribe » Watch the Previous Episode: http://go.nowth.is/2t73cS8 We also have to mention that Sierra Leone has been marred by conflict, violence, and disease over the last two decades—because their impacts can still be felt today. The country spiraled into civil war from 1991-2002. Tens of thousands of civilians died as a result. Hundreds were subjected to brutal limb amputation as punishment and women were subject to widespread sexual abuse. Both sides of the conflict—rebels and government forces—used child soldiers in their fights. And up to a quarter of the population was displaced. In 1999 a ceasefire was brokered and UN troops were deployed to help keep the peace but the war wasn’t officially declared over until 2002. Then in 2014, Sierra Leone was one of the hardest hit by the regional ebola outbreak. There were over 14,000 confirmed cases of the virus, and nearly 4,000 people died as a result. Citizens have grown mistrustful of the government after its perceived mismanagement of the ebola crisis. And in 2017 deadly mudslides killed hundreds of people and displaced hundreds more. The scars and impacts of these issues affect daily life in the country to this day. Because Sierra Leone still suffers some from the geographical and political divisions that fueled its civil conflict, a peaceful, democratic transition of power would be a major milestone. But minor violence related to the elections has already broken out, and the United Nations has expressed its concern. With shocking evidence now uncovered, Zimbabwe's diamond trade faces suspension. "We were told here are the guns, sitting in the truck, do you want to stay?" says Andrew Cranswick, CEO of the mining company who owns the rights to mine diamonds in Marange. After his company was evicted, the Marange fields were opened up to the people and tens of thousands of Zimbabweans came to dig, paying the police a commission. Yet the police didn't always play fair - "$15 million worth of diamonds were confiscated", says one former miner and soon the police were replaced by Mugabes own military. "Mugabe needed a way to buy the loyalty of the army" says Ken Roth, "the military were ordered to kill". In the first week of November, helicopter gunships launched a massacre on the Marange diamond fields. Evidence has been collected of 200 deaths. Those who weren't killed were raped or crippled. "They told us if we wanted to go home we had to sleep with the men", says one woman, "the soldiers watched and laughed". Next month, the Kimberley process, the international body charged with stopping trade in conflict diamonds, will decide whether Zimbabwe should be suspended. Yet with many Western governments involved in Zimbabwe's diamond trade, a former delegate of the Kimberley process believes this deadly business may yet be protected. Gold Dust: Under Blaise Compaore's leadership, Burkina Faso's unregulated gold rush has had a devastating effect on mining conditions. This report digs deep into the industry, exposing the corruption beneath Compaore's ruling. Millions of people - including children as young as fourteen - mine in an unregulated industry for a few golden grams of hope. Marcel toils underground to support his family - but without the glittering rewards promised. “We all have hope, we hope to earn” he says, but "they rob us here...They treat the miner like an animal." 17-year old Soumaele has been mining for two years. His thin body can go to even deeper than the older men, to places where the air is impossible to breathe and the tunnels are likely to collapse. Gold promises a great deal, but in an anarchic industry, teacher Soungalo Hema fears for the future of children like Soumaele: "You try and save them", she says, "but a lot of the time it’s in vain. I ask myself 'what will happen to all of us?'" An inspiring initiative has seen Botswana's vast diamond reserves, worth about three billion US dollars a year, being used to share wealth throughout the nation. Trade Consultant Ntetleng Masisi says they used diamonds to bring about health facilities, education and a markedly improved quality of life. "The earnings from our exports of diamonds have really done a lot for us." But Botswana's reliance on diamond revenue means that the whole of the country's future is now in the hands of the diamond dealers . [Mining is big business in South Africa. It is the world's largest producer of chrome and platinum, and the second largest producer of palladium and zirconium. It is also the 5th largest producer of gold. But digging up all those riches is a dirty business, and it has left behind a poisonous legacy. Dirty Diamonds (1996): Angola boasts the most dangerous and illegal diamond mines in the world. Subscribe to Journeyman here: http://www.youtube.com/subscription_center?add_user=journeymanpictures# Synopsis: From an aerial view, hundreds of men dot the crater ridden landscape. In small groups, bare chested, knee deep in murky water, they sieve gravel for hours until they spot the glitter of one tiny diamond. In town, we interview an illegal trader who compares diamond dealing to the blood diamond trade in a warzone. He takes out a small paper package from his trouser leg and slowly unwraps a cluster of uncut jewels. He carries them to bribe his way out of any difficult situations. The De Beers diamond cartel is keen to stop the illegal diamond trade. A spokesman maintains that most of Angola's diamonds are smuggled out the country and are therefore denied to the people of Angola. We would like to develop a first class diamond field and build a proper mining operation. In this way the country can be further developed. Local mining companies depend on private security firms to guarantee their safety. While filming, bandits with grenade launchers and machine guns take our reporter by surprise. After much bargaining, she is finally allowed to leave the area. May 18 -- Even in the world of rare stones, Foxfire is a freak. It was buried in a place where big gem-quality diamonds aren’t supposed to exist. A Rio Tinto Group ore processor was configured to discard it. And what saved the diamond’s 187.7 carats from being pulverized was a fluke: Its unusual, elongated shape allowed it to slip sideways through a filtering screen. In May 2018, we had the privilege to visit again the Aappaluttoq ruby mine operated by « Greenland Ruby » ( a company part of LNS group) in South West Greenland. It was great to see the mine in production, witness the mining in arctic conditions, meet the local people working there and listen what they had to say about their work. Interestingly also, this time we were joined by Mads Kornerup from Shamballa Jewels. It was just a great pleasure to witness somebody from the consuming side of the industry meeting miners and listen what he had to say about that incredible mine.

धरती के अंदर तेल और गैस के भंडारों का पता कैसे लगाया जाता है? How to find oil and gas? Link : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IsgYLbhCUaA #gold #Gold_in_India #Gold_mining Some people cover their cars with Gold, some wear clothes made of gold wire, someone designs Gold their mobile , there are many people in the world who use gold in different way. women of India are also addicted to gold ornaments. people had bought gold to hide their money. But do you know how gold is formed inside the earth? What are the ways to find Gold? How Gold prepared? From which places of India does gold come out? Which countries is the largest gold source? How the gold came inside the earth or how? Humans would never have got the chance to be ashamed of gold. Millions of years ago when the earth was being built. Along with these extraordinary conflicts, billions of tons of molten gold and platinum fell into the center of the Earth and became part of its crude. But today the human race has become so clever that he is in search of everything and is in the process of getting it. So something like this Gold come on earth and today its prices are high. How to find Gold in Under Ground ? So this work happens in the same way as the oil and gas deposits in the ground are detected, in which ground penetration radar (GPR) is used to find out what is in the ground. In fact, it records the physical properties of the soil such as density, magnetic properties, registration, on which the graph is prepared and it is estimated that the core analysis is done under the soil, then the core analysis is done. Drilling it under the ground and removing a little debris and analyzing it. It gives accurate information about what is below. Apart from this, hidden property, metal, i.e. gold, silver, copper etc. are detected through VLF technology. For this the waves are sent within the ground. Once after hitting these waves, the VLF receiver creates an electromagnetic field around that object and produces a sequestration by collision the special metal. This kind of survey is carried out by the team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) and Geological Survey of India (GSI). There are 7 different ways to find gold. 1) break the rocks by exploding 2) Milling of stones 3) the process of wetting sand 4) process of cyanide 5) Amalgamation 6) Flotation So by this process, you can guess that finding gold is a very difficult task, this is the reason why gold prices are so high in the market. Gold is very solid and it is very difficult to actually make ornaments. Usually gold is found either in the form of alloy with either pale or silver or alone. It is also found in the form of Calvarites, Sylvainite, Petjite and Cranerite ores. And the gold which is extracted from the mine is in the form of ore, which is absolutely pure gold. Which places of India are extracted gold? Most of the production of gold in India is in the state of Karnataka, where gold is extracted from the mines called Kolar, Hutti and Uti. Apart from this, gold is also extracted from Andhra Pradesh and Jharkhand's Hirabuddin and Kendraakocha mines. If we talk about a mine of Jharkhand, then about 4 grams of gold is extracted from a ton of stone and on average, 7 kg of gold is extracted from a mine here every year. The biggest gold mines in the world. In which Kimberley mine is in Africa, after Grasberg mine which is in Papua, Carlin Nevada mine which is in the US, weladero mine which is in Argentina and the writer's quarry is in Papua New Guinea. 5 countries that produce the most gold or produce gold. 1. China which has been ahead in gold production for many years, China produces 426 tons of gold in about a year. But his government has seen a decline of 6 percent in the past year due to the efforts taken to fight pollution and increase environmental awareness. However, due to the excavation of several mines in existing projects, this year's production is expected to begin. 2. Australia Australia produces 295.1 tons of gold in a year. The mineral industry is more than half of Australia's total exports and generates about 8 percent of GDP. 3. Russia A large part of European gold comes from Russia, which has been increasing its production every year since 2010. Russia produced 17 tons more than last year, And Russia produces 270 tonnes of gold every year. 4. United States America also pulled 8 tonnes more gold this year compared to the previous year. Where the production was supported by Project Ramp-up in the Long Canyon Project in Nevada and the Hail project in South Carolina. And the United States produces 230 tonnes of gold every year. And about 78 percent of the US gold comes from Nevada alone. 5. Canada Fall of a glacier in north British Columbia in Toronto, Sebrija Gold stumbled upon an important golden area and estimated to be estimated at 780 metric tons.
