The 850 metres of 12 inch pipes delivered to The Entrance Beach, Central Coast, NSW last month have now been installed, with the much anticipated pumping now underway by Wyong Council’s 1993 Cutter Suction dredge. The dredge is pumping sand directly from The Entrance channel on to The Entrance Beach, a popular swimming spot and tourist destination. Mayor Eaton said “The dredging program is expected to be finished in November, well in time for the peak holiday season.” The 70 litre per hour diesel dredge will operate approx 12 hours a day for the next 6 weeks or so and is well worth a visit to see it in action.

Kevin, an old-school fellow approached us on the beach and gave us a random tour and information about Bare Bluff, Diggers Point, Fidderman's Gold mine, headland and beach. He was just like a high-school teacher. I have no idea about whether any of the information he gave us is true or whether he is a con artist. Any feedback is most welcome......

Go to: https://www.communityrun.org/p/bunyipbird #bunyipbird Dear Director-General UNESCO Irina Bokova, Dear Executive-Director UNEP Achim Steiner, I would appreciate your consideration into the global impacts of sand mining on threatened species. Sand is not a sustainable resource and all efforts to stop global sand mining and replace sand with a sustainable material can be developed. All impacts of project proposals must be assessed in a responsible manner prior to approvals, during works in progress and after completion of all existing projects. Sand mining is impacting threatened species at an alarming rate, with a global decline in numbers. The Australasian Bittern (Botaurus poiciloptilus) also known in Australia as the 'Bunyip bird' is endangered. The loss of this native Australian species also involves indigenous cultural heritage. The Bunyip bird morphed from mythology and art of indigenous Australian cultures, to cross over and survive the brutal invasion of early European settlers. Today, this threatened species is facing extinction due to the global loss of wetland habitats. Native species adapted to their distinct habitat systems prior to shifts in habitats altered by humans. These changes created massive habitat disturbances and selected various species above others, creating total failures in species productivity and biodiversity. The damaging effect of sand mining is increased by a rise in sea level, and the amount of sand removed from coastal areas and stream beds impacts the overall ecology of a system. Sand mining also impacts the connecting groundwater system. The protection of species involves habitats with specific environments, to guarantee the longevity of their survival. Why is this important? To conserve the Australasian bittern a high level of protection is needed in areas where they are known to be found. This species has declined rapidly because they depend on vegetated freshwater to survive. With an estimated population in Australia of only 250 to 800 adult bittern, in March 2011 the Australasian Bittern was listed by the Australian Government as endangered. They are also listed as endangered internationally in the IUCN Red List. Will you join me in asking the United Nations to stop sand mining and save the Australasian Bittern 'Bunyip bird' listed as a threatened & endangered species, native to Australia & facing extinction? Also known to be found in a habitat that is dear to me, my home town region of Port Stephens NSW. If you agree with this campaign, please sign the petition & share it. This is the 3rd Video I have put together in my Landscape Photography series. In this video I travel to Catherine Hill Bay on the Central Coast of NSW to capture some sunrise images of the old coal loading jetty silhouetted against the predawn light. The New Wallsend Company began coal mining operations from a tunnel just above the beach near the jetty during 1873 and the first shipment was made from the newly constructed jetty on 17th December 1873.Coal mining in the area ceased in 2002 and there have been many attempts to have the jetty demolished. I personally hope this never happens as the jetty is a link to Catho’s past that cannot be denied. On the morning of the shoot I was fortunate to have the area to myself and was treated to a beautiful sunrise as a backdrop against this wonderful structure. All images captured using my Nikon 7100 and a Tokina 11-16 wide angle lens. I use a cable release and a Vanguard Alta series 70 tripod for maximum stability on all shots. I processed all images using Adobe Lightroom. Audio - "DO NOT GO GENTLE" by Josh Woodward. In this video I demonstrate how I CREVICE for Gold in typical mountain creek in an Eastern Australian Rainforest. From Victoria to the tip of Queensland, innumerable creeks like this take their head off the Great Divide, and an astonishing mount of these bear Gold. Crevicing is one of my PRIMARY prospecting techniques. It is a quick and easy way to sample a creek, and will usually reveal it's secrets. A lot of valuable information can be gained about a creek and its immediate surrounding simply by crevicing. Podosols are very sandy soils which generally develop on mature sand dunes and sand deposits under high rainfall. In some areas they also develop on windblown material on coastal headlands. They generally span from the central coast and extend northwards to the Queensland border. They are often visually striking, with clear boundaries between soil layers or horizons. The development of Podosols is driven by the movement of water, organic matter, aluminium and iron down the soil profile. These leaching processes culminate in pans and coffee rock in the subsoil. Immediately above the pans, the soil is a clean white quartz sand which is almost pure silica and is a prized resource for glass making and micro electronics. Total soil depth is usually deep, however the north coast is known for its giant forms which can be over 20m deep. The loose, sandy nature of these soils, means that they have high wind erosion risk. Vegetation is important for protection and stabilisation. Podosols are poorly suited for agriculture purposes. They have very low fertility, low water holding capacity and are acid. In low lying areas they can be water logged. Their location on the coastal fringe means they are often under urban development. Other land uses include recreation, conservation and mining.

Redhead Beach is situated in Newcastle New South Wales Australia. Australia has some of the best surfing beaches in the world. The best thing about our beaches is that we have zillions of them and they are generally not packed full of people. Redhead like many original towns in Newcastle was an old coal mining town. Now it's a great place to live off the main drag/roads. Redhead has many great little bush tracks to walk the dog or with your friends or family. Redhead or Nine Mile beach can be accessed by 4WD for fishing, surfing or just having fun.

This was a really awesome adventure with my good friends Corrie, Joy, Tony, and Lincoln. We hauled my Gold dredge down to the creek on their farm, for my very first hunt with it this year. It felt good to get it back in the water. I let Joy do most of the dredging and I think she had a blast!. Her and Possum ( Lincoln) really enjoy searching for Gold and Indian relics. Joy also has been arrowhead hunting for many years, She is very passionate about it too!. After 5 hours of dredging we had to pack everything up because of the thunder storm, But we all had a wonderful time while it lasted. A Big thanks to Corrie for letting me come down and dredge the creek. I hope you enjoyed the video and Thank You for watching. I will have more Gold dredging videos coming this summer. "Blessed be the LORD, the God of Israel, who alone does wondrous things. Blessed be his glorious name forever; may the whole earth be filled with his glory! Amen and Amen!" - Psalm 72:18-19 God Bless.

Canberra is the capital city of this country and the official language is English. Looking closely at the national flag of this country, you will find ‘Union Jack’ that represents the history of British settlement. The star below stands for the unity of this country. Hi everyone! My name is Sharon, I'm a soon-to-be registered nurse and an aspiring artist based in Australia. The final result of the painting process for this video reminded me of a coral reef. Currently, the Great Barrier Reef on the north-east coast of Australia is under major threat from the coal mining industry. The Greenpeace organisation states that "If the coal industry gets its wish, huge coal reserves in central Queensland will be opened up for mining and millions of tonnes of seafloor will be dredged in the Great Barrier Reef World Heritage Area to construct massive coal port expansions. Hundreds of more coal ships will pass through the Reef, heightening the risk of accidents and oil spills and negatively impacting coral at a time when the health of the Reef is already in decline." A region with an incredible mosaic of giant coastal sand dunes rich in Aboriginal heritage, rainforests dating back 180 million years to Gondwana, button grass moorlands, granite mountain ranges and pristine rivers flowing to the sea. This 1995 news broadcast, put together by ABC Environmental Journalist Alan Tate, was the first time that news of the Tarkine campaign had made it onto the Australian 'mainland', from Tasmania, spearheading a national campaign to make the Tarkine region World Heritage. Footage used by ABC comes from Gary Caganoff and his documentaries, Tarkiner Paner', made for The Wildreness Society Hobart in 1993, and 'Manifestation', which was made on the protests against the construction of the road cut through the middle of the Tarkine, outlined in this report, in 1996. Against the Tasmanian Government's 'Media Exclusion Zone', set up around the Tarkine whilst the bridge was being put in place, Caganoff, along with some Tarkine Tigers (as the group of protestors where called by the Tasmanian media), managed to breach the zone to witness and film the construction of the bridge. The link connecting the north and the south and the end of the road construction which had been hampered for two years by the ongoing protests of the Tigers. Caganoff's plan was to try and get the footage of the bridge to the TV media ASAP. Failing to get arrested, which would have proved to be the quickest way out from such a remote place, he hitched a ride out with the police. The next day In Davenport, Gary made friends with workers in a large microwave Telecommunications tower where they plugged his analogue Hi8 camera into the dishes and beamed the footage straight to Alan Tate in Sydney's ABC studios. In those early digital days this was a bit like flying manual, rather then using autopilot. That night this news story was beamed across Australia and the South Pacific, introducing millions of viewers to the magnificent yet vulnerable Tarkine. The original story was about three minutes. This version comes from ABC Tasmania who cut it in half. See more: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OMroV6Z1jrw Tarkine DVD: http://www.lysisfilms.com/?p=161
