OceanaGold Reefton Gold Mine. Globe-Progress Open-Cast Goldmine Reefton, NZ. The Reefton mine was commissioned in 2007 and comprises of a series of open pits developed along a major regional shear structure and its offshoots. It is located seven kilometres southeast of the township of Reefton a historic mining district in the West Coast region of New Zealand's South Island. At the Reefton processing plant, the ore is put through crushing, grinding, flotation and concentrate de-watering. The processing plant is operating well above its design capacity. Throughput is currently ~1.7 Million tonnes per annum. It has been a steady performer and is currently operating at 60% above design capacity. A gold bearing concentrate is produced at the facility which is then railed over 600 kilometres south to Palmerston from where it is trucked to the Macraes operation for final processing through the autoclave pressure oxidation and carbon in cyanide leaching circuits. Reefton produced a record 85,843 ounces of gold in 2010 and has a mine life based on current reserves until late 2015. Refractory concentrate produced from the Reefton processing plant is transported by road and rail to Macraes for treatment Quick Facts: Mine Type: Open pit Resources: 1.21 Million oz Gold Reserves: 0.30 Million oz Gold Estimated Mine Life: ~2015-2017 Gold Production: 55-70 thousand oz per annum Gold produced (ounces) 2012 - 63,300 oz Gold Total Ore Mined (tonnes) 2012 - 1,314,630 tonnes Ore Mined grade (grams/tonne) 2012 - 1.56 Recovery (%) 2012 - 80.6% Dump truck drivers reportedly earn $35 per hour, 12 hour shifts, 6 days per week, 4 days off. 26 March 2015 The vast majority of Oceana Gold’s 240 workers at the Globe-Progress open-cast goldmine near Reefton could be cast on the scrap heap when the mine is placed into ‘care and maintenance’ in mid-2015. The cost saving exercise, brought about by a 25% drop in the gold price, will cost the West Coast economy about $45 million in direct and indirect benefits for every year that the mine is idle. The Reefton plant and equipment would remain on site with a view to resuming mining when the gold price rose to the point where the mine was again economic. The company would also continue to explore other options within the Inangahua goldfield including the underground potential of the Globe Progress ore body and the Blackwater project at historic Waiuta. Oceana intends to maintain its current access arrangement with the Department of Conservation through to 2019, but gold production at Reefton will be reduced by some 110,000 ounces for the period 2015-17, resulting in about $40-$45 million being reduced from the capital budget over the next two years.

Balitok (Ilocano term for Gold) captures a slice of life and reality of indigenous tribes (Kalanguya and Kankana-ey) practicing artisanal or small-scale mining in Nueva Vizcaya as their means of economic survival. The documentary follows the laborious stages of mining (from extracting the ore, milling, panning and heating) from the point of view of Ongan (13 yr old small-scale miner) and Mona (artisanal miner since 1960's). The documentary can also serve as case study in the over-all situation of small-scale mining in the Philippines. The lush, mountainous and mineral rich province is one of the 23-28 Mining Priority Sites of the government.

Lintungan Falls is located in Brgy. Runruno, Quezon Nueva Vizcaya. This by far has the most difficult trail we’ve ventured. The hardest part of our trip started from the junction to the falls. The challenging uphills which made it seem like our bicycles are not moving and the pull of gravity felt like it was doubled! It felt like we were traversing a roller coaster road with tight curves and continuous increase in elevation. It took us about three hours riding our bicycle from Solano to the falls itself. We were very exhausted when we finally reached our destination but rejuvenated by the impressive view and icy waters of Lintungan falls. ——————————————————————————— Watch our other Videos: •Pagudpud, Ilocos Norte - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmhYGRqWnP4&feature=share •Mapalyao Falls -https://youtu.be/ypvHwjUgO_k •Diffuncian Falls - https://youtu.be/Cq0Pn-qB12Y •Communal Falls - https://youtu.be/oeD8vrCPjRE •Davao City - https://youtu.be/_GUjZgS2WnM •Bubon ni Apo Dios- https://youtu.be/thRs4gbfUGg •Paoay Sand Dunes- https://youtu.be/R4CTMi9AbmY Music: Chill Noons - Kronicle Puerto Rico - Engelwood

NATIONAL FACT-FINDING AND SOLIDARITY MISSION IN MINING-AFFECTED COMMUNITIES IN NUEVA VIZCAYA Dupax del Norte Team September 17-20, 2013 On May 8, 2013, indigenous peoples Bugkalot and Igorot led by Alliance of Upland Barangays for Sustainable Development (AUBD), Kasibu Intertribal Response for Ecological Development (KIRED), Youth Against Mining (YAM) and Alliance of Multi-Sectoral Group Against Mining (ALMUSEGAM) began to set up simultaneous barricades in three areas in Dupax del Norte and in two areas in Kasibu, both municipalities of Nueva Vizcaya. These barricades is the communities' defense of their lands and livelihood from the entry of Royalco Philippines Incorporated, an Australian mining company that has started gold and copper exploration in Nueva Vizcaya. On June 10, 2013, Royalco filed civil suits against 15 leaders and members of the barricades. A Temporary Restraining Order (TRO) was filed against Guillermo Contales, Pacita Balinggan, Gessler Tactac, Janet Cuyahon, Denver Vicente, Osmar Osingat, Fr. Jaime Noto, Timoteo Dugay, Solomon Dugay, Bongbong Dugay, Santos Yongaan, Juanito Alucios, Dennis Guillermo and two others referred only as 'John Does' by the Regional Trial Court of Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya. Around 300 soldiers from the 86th Infantry Battalion of the 5th Infantry Division of the Philippine Army were deployed in the barricade areas, inciting fear among locals. The military along with members of the Philippine National Police went to the upland villages to dismantle the barricades on June 12, 2013 on the basis of the TRO filed by Royalco, but the communities defied the attempt of the state forces to remove the barricades. The said elements also threatened the people that they will search every house without warrant. more news: http://www.kodao.org/stories/mission-statement-national-fact-finding-and-solidarity-mission-nueva-vizcaya

OceanaGold .. & Their Macreas OPEN_PIT "Gold Mine" We stopped in for another looksee -- on our way "back" from Christchurch. And yes .. we "stood" on what used to be the original: Palmerston - MACRAES - Moonlight - Middlemarch "Main Road". But it's directly above part of the OPEN AREAS of the mine And is thus (now) just a spot for ALL visitors to use. Somewhere to "look-out" over their extensive OPEN PIT "diggings".
