13 Health Problems Your Nails Try to Warn You About

04:19
If you look at your fingernails, you’ll notice light areas at the base. These are moons, or lunulae. Their change in color, shape, or size can indicate not only the presence of a disease but also the predisposition to it. Such diagnostics help you notice the problem in time and take action. For instance, if your lunula is black or gray, you need to see a doctor immediately! Watch till the end to learn how to run diagnostics of your health with the help of lunulae. TIMESTAMPS When a lunula changes on one finger 0:41 Overly large lunulae 1:45 Small lunulae 2:15 Lunulae aren’t visible at all 2:43 Change in lunulae color 3:19 SUMMARY • A lunula on the little finger, as a rule, should be almost unnoticeable or completely absent. It’s connected with the work of the kidneys, small intestine, and heart. • The ring finger is responsible for the work of the reproductive and lymphatic systems. • The middle finger is connected with the work of the brain and cardiovascular system. The absence of a lunula can indicate vascular problems and high blood pressure. • The index finger lunula can disappear or get considerably smaller because of improper function of the intestine, pancreas, or chronic E.N.T. diseases. • The lunula on the thumb reflects the work of the lungs and spleen. It’s the most visible of all and should take up no more than 25% of the whole fingernail. - Large lunulae can often be found in athletes and people whose occupation is connected with physical activity. If a person isn’t involved in sports, enlarged lunulae may appear because of a high level of stress. - If the lunulae are noticeably separated from the rest of the nail plate with transverse lines, it indicates problems with blood sugar levels and the possible development of diabetes. - A sudden disappearance of lunulae is perceived by modern medicine as one of the symptoms of a circulatory disorder. This study showed that the absence of lunulae is connected with thyroid gland disorders and a deficit of vitamin B12 and iron. What Causes Ridges in Finger and Toenails

01:58
What Causes Horizontal & vertical Ridges in Finger and Toenails Ridges in fingernails Vertical ridges sometimes appear along the length of the fingernails. Sometimes marks, discoloration or pits or grooves on a fingernail, such as those that run from side to side (known as Beau's lines), can be an indication of a nail injury or a health problem. However, in the case of vertical ridges, there is normally no reason to be concerned. These ridges look and feel like raised lines, and they run from the cuticle at the base of the fingernail to the tip. These ridges are not usually a sign of injury or a health problem but are a harmless result of ageing. They often become more prominent or numerous as you get older. However, if the vertical ridges are accompanied by brittle nails, with jagged edges or splitting, you may have a condition known as onychorrhexis, which may be linked to a skin-related medical condition such as lichen planus, a type of non-infectious skin rash, or certain other health conditions such as anaemia or an underactive thyroid gland. Also, if the ridges run horizontally from side to side, they may indicate a health problem. So you should seek medical advice

8 Fingernail Problems Not To Ignore http://www.Ameerrosic.com Pale Nails Very pale nails can sometimes be a sign of serious illness, such as: Anemia Congestive heart failure Liver disease Malnutrition White Nails If the nails are mostly white with darker rims, this can indicate liver problems, such as hepatitis. In this image, you can see the fingers are also jaundiced, another sign of liver trouble. Yellow Nails One of the most common causes of yellow nails is a fungal infection. As the infection worsens, the nail bed may retract, and nails may thicken and crumble. In rare cases, yellow nails can indicate a more serious condition such as severe thyroid disease, lung disease, diabetes or psoriasis. Bluish Nails Nails with a bluish tint can mean the body isn't getting enough oxygen. This could indicate an infection in the lungs, such as pneumonia. Some heart problems can be associated with bluish nails. Rippled Nails If the nail surface is rippled or pitted, this may be an early sign of psoriasis or inflammatory arthritis. Discoloration of the nail is common; the skin under the nail can seem reddish-brown. Cracked or Split Nails Dry, brittle nails that frequently crack or split have been linked to thyroid disease. Cracking or splitting combined with a yellowish hue is more likely due to a fungal infection. Puffy Nail Fold If the skin around the nail appears red and puffy, this is known as inflammation of the nail fold. It may be the result of lupus or another connective tissue disorder. Infection can also cause redness and inflammation of the nail fold. Dark Lines Beneath the Nail Dark lines beneath the nail should be investigated as soon as possible. They are sometimes caused by melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer.

The Missing Nutrient in Hair, Nails and Skin

Dr. Berg's Plant Based Trace Minerals: https://bit.ly/2BpxLFG Take Dr. Berg's Body Type Quiz for a free health evaluation: https://bit.ly/2EypT2F Dr. Berg talks about nails care, hair care tips and skin care. There are various causes due to which people get loss of hair, bitter nails, dry skin. This has to do with a deficiency of trace minerals. Trace minerals are required to make the enzymes work in the body and are needed in very little quantities. Trace minerals are needed by our body for getting proteins (from enzymes) which is essential for nails growth, hair care and skin care. Plant based trace minerals are best for skin, nails and hair treatment. Hair, skin and nails are all composed of collagen, but trace minerals are essential for the conversion of amino acids to collagen. What are causes of vertical dark line on big toe? - Dr. Rajdeep Mysore

01:57
A vertical dark line, we call it as longitudinal melanonychia. A longitudinal melanonychia is very common in dark skinned people and doesn't indicate that you have melanoma. In fair skinned people, I don't mean Indians, I mean Caucasians and Europeans, and you have a longitudinal black line on your nail, then you do have to be concerned about melanoma. The characters of longitudinal line due to melanoma are slightly different from other causes. Other causes are common congenital cause like people who have moles in other parts of their body. Moles can even occur on the nail matrix and when the nail grows, it leads to longitudinal lines along the nail. So it is nothing but a mole in most of the people. If somebody in your family had cancer, then you can get a biopsy done from the nail matrix to rule out melanoma. In a biopsy, the pathologist rules out if there are any cancerous cells in that sample. If you have normal nevus cells or mole cells, then you don't have to be worried.

What Your Nails Reveal about Your Health

10:47
Did you know that your fingernails can provide clues to your overall health? Abnormalities that occur on the nails may warrant a closer look. White Dots On Nails Leukonychia Commonly called white nails or milk spots, and is more frequently located on fingernails compared to toenails and often can be found in the central portion of the nail plate. The normal nail beds needs to be pink in color. These white spots usually are not hatrmful, although in some other situations it could be an indication of an underlying disease. Bacterial or perhaps fungal infection on the nails could potentially cause, this effect. This condition can also be found in people with arsenic poisoning, kidney failure or respiratory conditions. Contact with extreme cold could possibly result in this condition, but these spots will slowly vanish over time. Cracked or Split Nails Dry, brittle nails that frequently crack or split have been linked to thyroid disease. Cracking or splitting combined with a yellowish colour is more likely due to a fungal infection. Low levels of Vitamin C, folic acid, and certain proteins in the diet are also known to cause nail splitting. White Nails If the nails are mostly white with darker rims, this can indicate liver problems, such as hepatitis. Nails yellowish in color can indicate jaundice, which is another sign of liver trouble. Very pale nails can sometimes be a sign of other serious illnesses, such as: Anemia Congestive heart failure Liver disease Malnutrition White Dots If small white dots that appear on the surface of the nail that won't budge when you try to buff them off, this is usually due to some type of trauma—such as a banged finger. In time they should grow out and fade, but if they don't go away it could be a sign of milk spots as discussed earlier so you may need to see a dermatologist. Bluish Nails The medical term of Blue fingernails is cyanosis, and can be a sign of various disorders so it should be checked out. While very cold temperatures can temporarily slow the flow of blood through the skin leading to a bluish color, this should go away once you warm up. It can also be a sign of Raynaud's disease. Yellow Nails Syndrome With yellow nail syndrome, nails thicken and new growth slows. This results in a yellowish discoloration of the nails. One of the most common causes of yellow nails is a fungal infection. As the infection worsens, the nail bed may retract, and nails may thicken, crumble, lack a cuticle and detach from the nail bed in places. Yellow nail syndrome is often a sign of respiratory disease, such as chronic bronchitis. Yellow nail syndrome can also be related to swelling of the hands (lymphedema). In rare cases, yellow nails can indicate a more serious condition such as severe thyroid disease, lung disease, diabetes or psoriasis Nail Pitting Small hole or ice pick-like depressions in the nails (nail pitting) are common in people who have psoriasis, which is a condition characterized by scaly patches on the skin. Nail pitting can also be related to connective tissue disorders, such as Reiter's syndrome, and alopecia Green Nails Green nails are the result of a pseudomonal infection, which is usually caused by the environment. This means that those who's immune system is already low are very susceptible to this type of nail infection which makes the nail often appears green in color. Nail Ridges These can either be horizontal or vertical. With vertical nail ridges, this can signify nutrition issues, moisture loss or nutritional absorption issues. Horizontal ridges in the nail are often associated with diabetes, liver diseases or other chronic diseases. Dark Lines Beneath the Nail If you have dark skin, it's fairly common to have streaks of the pigment melanin down your fingernails. However, you should still get this checked by a doctor, as it may occasionally indicate a form of skin cancer called subungual melanoma, the most dangerous type of skin cancer. Generally this only affects one nail, causing the stripe to change in appearance, and becoming wider or darker over time. The pigmentation may also affect the surrounding skin. Rippled Nails

Nail Symptoms and What It Means for Your Health!

04:22
Did you know that your fingernails can provide clues to your overall health? Healthy nails grow, on average 3.5 millimeters a month, but this is influenced by your nutritional status, medications, trauma, chronic disease, and the aging process itself. If you notice any significant changes in your nails, including swelling, discolorations, or changes in shape or thickness, see a dermatologist right away. It could be nothing, or it could be due to an underlying condition. Below are the nail symptoms you might experience in your lifetime and what they mean for your health. White Lines Across Nails Also dubbed "Muehrcke's lines," these double white lines run horizontally across the nails, and are typically most clearly seen on the index, middle, and ring fingers. Commonly, these lines can indicate low levels of protein in the blood, which can be caused by liver disease or malnutrition, or during periods of stress, especially ones that affect your metabolism. Dark Stripes Running Down Nails In many cases, these dark, vertical stripes across your nails are harmless. However, there is a chance that they could be a sign of subungual melanoma, an extremely ferocious form of cancer that occurs on the toes or fingers. Red Or Brown Streaks Underneath Nails Also called splinter hemorrhage, these thin, reddish brown streaks underneath the nails are primarily tiny, damaged blood vessels. They can indicate wider, more severe causes that have to do with inflammation or swelling, including medical conditions like rheumatoid arthritis and psoriasis. Discolored Nails Discolored nails can indicate various things, including signs of an infection, a nutritional deficiency, and a problem with one of your organs. Yellowish nail points to a fungal nail infection, or even psoriasis. Brown nails can indicate a thyroid disease or malnutrition. White nails can point to an iron deficiency. Bluish-gray tint can mean that your body might not be getting enough oxygen. It could also point to an issue with your lungs or heart. Brittle, Crumbly Nails Dry, brittle nails that frequently split or crack have been linked to things like thyroid disease and fungal infections. They can also indicate lichen planus, a condition that results in itchy rashes on the skin or around the mouth. Thickened Nails Among many other possible causes, thickened nails can form due to reactive arthritis (a really painful kind of inflammatory arthritis) and lung diseases. Another possible explanation is poor circulation. Medical conditions, like diabetes, can slow down the blood flow through the fingers and toes, and affect the quality of the skin. Spoon-Shaped Nails Spoon-shaped fingernails curve inward, and look like they are "scooping" outward. They can indicate a condition known as koilonychia, a disease that can be an indicator of hypochromic anemia, which leaves the red blood cells paler than normal. In addition, these nails can be a sign of hemochromatosis, a liver condition that is caused by a surplus of iron. They can also be a sign of heart disease or hypothyroidism. Pitting Or Denting In Nails Medical conditions such as psoriasis and reactive arthritis are likely be the reason that you're seeing little dents in your nails. Other possibilities include eczema and alopecia areata, a genetic disease that results in spot baldness. Grooves In Nails Also dubbed "Beau's lines," these horizontal grooves are ridges and indentations in the nails. There are several causes, including malfunctions during cell division, infections in the nail fold, or finger injuries. Nail Clubbing Also known as drumstick fingers and watch-glass nails, clubbed nails occur when the nails curve around the fingertips. This could be totally harmless — there might be an increased blood flow to the fingertips, and this could even be a genetic occurrence. Clubbed nails could also indicate lung and liver disease, heart disease, and inflammatory bowel disease, according to Hills.

Your Nails And Hands Are Telling A Lot About Dangerous Health Conditions

What causes painful horizontal ridges on nails with discomfort? - Dr. Urmila Nischal

01:31
Painful depressions on the nail means there are depressions on the nail plate. Usually the nail plate is nicely convex allover. When there are horizontal ridges, they are called as ridges. This not an acute phenomena. Acute means immediate. It is a chronic phenomena. It is usually not associated with any causes. So it is idiopathic, that means without any cause. Sometimes it signifies some severe conditions like a chronic renal disorder or any metabolic condition. So if there are horizontal ridges on the nails, better to consult a dermatologist and get yourself evaluated and based on the causative factor only, can decide about the management. Sometimes it becomes very difficult to manage the existing ridges. So if the basic process which is causing is controlled, then your nail plate grows normally then you can get rid of your horizontal ridges on the nails.

NAILS AND HEALTH INDICATORS

04:16
NAILS AND HEALTH INDICATORS Visit http://improvemant.com/ for daily videos on men’s style, women and relationships, sex and attraction, health, domestic skills and motivational topics. Welcome back guys, I recently posted a video where I explained how your eyes can indicate the status of your health and can even indicate serious illnesses or disease in the body. If you missed that video you can watch it here https://youtu.be/I3d71U8nCsI If your nails have visible cracks and are very dry and brittle, this could be a warning signs or a side effect of thyroid disease. If you have blatantly obvious dark lines underneath your nail, this could be linked to or caused by the body suffering from a melanoma which is the most serious form of skin cancer. If your nails are extremely white and pale, this could be an indication of a variety of problems and should be followed up with your doctor to be on the safe side. Some possible issues may be malnutrition, liver disease such as hepatitis and also heart disease. If your nails are very thick, are growing very slowly and are yellowish in colour, this may be an indication of lung related diseases such as emphysema. If your nails are a very strong, bright yellow colour, this could either be a fungal infection or much more serious problems such as diabetes, psoriasis, lung disease or thyroid disease. If you are biting your nails to a point in which they are heavily damaged, very short and even bleeding and infected, this may just be a terrible habit, but it could also be a symptom of stress, anxiety and even obsessive compulsive disorder that may require some medical treatment. If your nails appear to be any shades of blue or purple this may be an indication that your body is not receiving enough oxygen. This may be as a result of lung or heart conditions, circulatory problems or congenital problems and should be followed up with your doctor. If one half of your nail is pink, and the other half is white, this may indicate kidney disease. If your nails have ripples or very fine holes and indents, this may be an indication of inflammatory arthritis or psoriasis. If you have white spots on your nails, this may be due to an iron or zinc deficiency. If your nails are noticeably grey in colour, this could be for a number of reasons including edema, arthritis, malnutrition, glaucoma, lung problems or cardio-pulmonary disease. So whilst these indications may be the worst case scenarios of having any of these colour, shape or texture manipulations, your health is too precious to take risks with, so take the effort to monitor your nails on a regular basis for any of the issues mentioned above, and if you do notice anything then make sure you get along to your doctor and investigate it further. Thanks for tuning in today guys as I much appreciate you watching my videos and I hope they are helpful for you. If you did find some benefit today, it would be great if you gave this video a like and a share on social media and don't forget to subscribe to this channel so that you don't miss out on all my daily videos. I look forward to seeing you back here tomorrow for my next daily video and until then guys, keep learning and keep making those improvemmants

What Your Nails Are Saying About Your Health

03:30
UNDATED -- It's amazing what your nails can tell you about the inside of your body. Tiny specks or ridges can mean something serious is going on inside. Your nails can tell you things you never thought possible. "There's a lot of different simple small things that seem very minor but they can tell a lot about the inside of their body," said Dr. Matt Bakos, Dermatologist. Dr. Bakos sees at least one person every day with a nail issue. "Any time you have any kind of skin finding that just doesn't go away after a few months probably should be an indicator that you should have it looked at," said Bakos. "There's I would call them horizontal lines and they're just bent down in the middle," said Timothy Eardly "They've been different like that for about five years." Eardly reluctantly shows us his thumbnails. "Dr.'s thoughts were that maybe there was something wrong inside of me my gizzard was broke or something like that and it was revealing itself through my fingernails," said Eardly. As he jokes about his nail situation, he feared it could have been something serious but was relieved to hear just how simple it was to fix. "He said ti was a nervous tick. He said sometimes it gets better, or mu thumbnails will heal, but only if I stop picking at them," said Eardly. But not all nail conditions are that simple. "Skin cancer, melanoma, and even rarely a systemic internal problem such as liver disease heart disease pulmonary disease, connective tissue diseases such as lupus. and other medical conditions," said Dr. Bakos. What might look like harmless red or white specks on your nails, could mean something more sinister. "Liver disease and kidney disease often present with red or white marks on the nails itself," said Dr. Bakos. Melanoma, while known as a skin cancer can show up on your nails. "Brown or black ban going down the entire length of the nail," said Dr. Bakos. What's happening inside of you, like serious lung or heart disease can appear on your nails as well. "They can get what we call clubbing or enlargement of the tips of their fingers," said Dr. Bakos. And those ridges, long, white lines down the length of your nails... "I actually did look that up a couple weeks ago," said Fillerst, "I noticed it wasn't as smooth they're not like that but I googled what causes that." "An indication of dry nails or as a common part of the aging process you get long longitudinal ridges or little lines going down the length of the nail and that's something we see on a routine basis. It's also something that we see if they're constantly in wet work, uh, dishwashers, people that wash their hands a lot it's a common finding as well," said Dr, Bakos. While some conditions are simple and easy to fix it's not something Dr. Bakos recommends ignoring. "There's a lot of different things that could indicate something more serious so it shouldn't be something that should be blown off," said Dr. Bakos. Dr. Bakos says a good rule of thumb is any time you see something different about your nails... You should get them looked at to be on the safe side.

About Nail Base Coat | Manicure Tutorials

02:10
Watch more Professional Manicure Tutorials videos: http://www.howcast.com/videos/500959-About-Nail-Base-Coat-Manicure-Tutorials There are several types of base coats available to consumers. I always recommend getting one to suit the health of your nail. If your nails are dry or brittle use one that says rehydrating the nail bed, or use one that says, you know, strengthen the nail if you know your nails are weak. Keep in mind that base coat is a barrier between your natural nail and the nail polish. If you're using a dark polish like this what happens is the pigment from the nail polish actually turns your natural nail yellow. The base coat creates a barrier between your nail and the dark nail polish. And thinking about it this way, if it's on your natural nail, you want it to work and rehydrate your nail or make it stronger, because your nails are porous. I would recommend always using a base coat that is thin, because you don't want it to take a long time to dry. I also recommend that you use a base coat or ridge filler base coat. Ridge filler base coats do exactly what it says - they fill the ridges in your nail. As it dries, it literally coats the nail so that you wouldn't see the ripples in the finger as you apply the nail polish. It gives it a more smooth and natural look. Not only is base coat awesome for protecting your nail between the nail polish it also almost acts like an anchor to the nail polish. It goes on first, it helps the nail polish adhere to your nail bed, and it'll make your manicure last longer. Here's an example as to why you should apply base coat. This nail doesn't have base coat on it, and, as you can see, this one does. Just by looking at the bottle and looking at the nails you can tell that the one with base coat shows the true color of the nail polish versus the one without base coat.

GRINDING DOWN THICK DAMAGED TOENAILS

11:40
After years of having trouble trimming his thickened toenails, this elderly gentleman was referred by his family doctor to see a foot specialist for his thick "fungal" toenails. During the assessment of his toenails, he learns that sometimes thick, yellow toenails might not always mean a fungal infection. We discussed that thickened toenails are a permanent change and one treatment is routine nail debridement (filing) of the nails. This will make those thickened toenails flatter, smoother and easier to live with. Bye, bye thickened toenails. Love, The Toe Bro PS...Thank you thank you thank you for all those sending me emails about your foot problems! The team is overwhelmed by the response and trying their best to respond to everyone! 02:19
Fingernail color health, 5 things that your nails say about your health. Usually when something is wrong in your body you will notice it. For example when your bleeding your body will show red around that area and will usually turn into a scab. Its no different with your nails. Nails will change in color or appearance when health problems occur. In this video we are going to go over some common nail changes and color change and what they usually mean. 1. Black Lines Under the Nails Small finger bleeds on your nails are sometimes signs of infection in the valves of the heart. The splinter hemorrhages cause small vertical lines of blood which will be a dark brown color, these are what the small finger bleeds look like. 2. Yellow Nails Yellow nails will sometimes come from a syndrome called yellow nail syndrome. This happens when the nails become yellow when they thicken. This is most likely a sign of respiratory problems. 3. Puffy Nail Fold When the skin around nail looks puffy and red, it is usually known as inflammation of the nail fold. 4. White Nails If the nails are whiter than normal and they have dark rims this can be a health problem. This indicates liver problems like hepatitis. 5. White Spots on Nails Sometimes you will see white spots on your nails. Usually this indicates that your body is lacking of vitamin and calcium. This is known as “leukonychia” If its not a lack of nutrition then most likely the white spots are just an allergic reaction to nail polish remover or some type of mild infection. Its also important to remember than any kind of stress or unordinary trauma can causes changes to your nails and health. This is nothing to worry about too much, just take note of these different signs. If you see something suspicious about your nails and its stays like that, then consider talking to a specialists to seek help.
