Minas De Riotinto, Andalusia, Spain

02:18
Riotinto is a large area with open-pit and underground mines. It was established in the 18th century by the English (whose employees brought soccer to Spain) and was in operation until the 1980s. Corta Atalaya is the largest open-pit mine in Europe. Even the Romans operated small mines here. Today all mining operations are stopped but companies are hopeful to reopen in the coming years. Meanwhile it is a National Park with a toursit train ride and a museum. Oh, and in the museum is a train wagon once used by the English queen on her journey to India. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Corta_Atalaya and http://www.parquemineroderiotinto.com

Elder Vanessa Nosie & his grandaughter..("Young Elder") ..Naelyn Pike...with some words of wisdom from Grandfather/Elder Tom Goldtooth. ------------------------------- Oak Flat is a controversial area of land that is held as sacred by Native Americans from the San Carlos Apache Indian Reservation. Oak Flat has been subject to attempts by the federal government to sell it to mining interests, against the wishes of the tribe. In December 2014, President Barack Obama signed the 2015 National Defense Authorization Act, which would give land sacred to the Apache in Arizona to Resolution Copper Mine [RCM], a joint venture owned by Rio Tinto and BHP Billiton. The Act cleared the way for the land swap in which Resolution Copper would receive 2,422 acres of National Forest land in exchange for deeding to the federal government 5,344 acres of private land. A proposal or rider in Section 3003 of the Act, titled "Southeast Arizona Land Exchange and Conservation Act", would allow RCM to develop and operate an underground copper mine 7,000-feet deep (approximately five Empire State buildings) in the publicly owned Tonto National Forest near Superior, Arizona. The mine would destroy an area set aside in 1955. ..by President Dwight D. Eisenhower.., ..that is sacred to the San Carlos Apache. The land contains more than 2,400 acres of the Oak Flat Campground, an area dotted.., ..with petroglyphs.. and historic and prehistoric sites. Cerro colorado, Minas de Riotinto, Huelva, Andalusia, Spain, Europe

Until the eighteenth century there is not this, after buying a Swede, L. Wolters, who began developing the principles of scientific developmentalism. The state has property until the nineteenth century that mining in the Rio Tinto will suffer the heyday, industrial, demographic and economic. In 1873, a British consortium buying mine the state for 92 million pesetas and founded the Rio Tinto Company Limited. The company provided the resurgence of Rio Tinto, opened short of exploitation and mining developed within. Because calcinations of outdoor mineral, called "weavers" with its sulfurous fumes, there was the first manifestation of an environmental nature that has been reported. It was held on February 4, 1888 and was attended by thousands of people from the whole region. Following orders from the civil governor of Huelva, Pavia Regiment forces, displaced from Malaga, opened fire on the demonstrators focused on the Constitution Square producing more than 100 dead. The power of the company made these serious events may pass virtually unnoticed in the rest of Spain and even some Republicans asked responsibilities means all was finally capped. These incidents were fictionalized by writer, a native of the town, Juan Cobos Wilkins in his novel "The heart of the earth" and was made into a film in 2007. One of the most important events in the development of the town was the construction of the railway line between Rio Tinto and Huelva, which showed the great economic power of Rio Tinto, to be built in the record time of two years, and would allow transport of minerals through Red Dock in the port of Huelva. But these advances miners also assumed social transformation: the arrival in the village labor from other parts of Spain and Portugal absorbed by strong demand from the mine. Another fact that helped to destroy that image Riotinto as village itself was the demolition and subsequent transfer of the former Rio Tinto or "La Mina". The company argued that the development of its holdings was held back by the location of the village. The relocation of the population became newly built neighborhoods (El Valle), following the guidelines constructive English, but undoubtedly the Bella Vista neighborhood, wrapped in an atmosphere of exclusivity and luxury. This neighborhood is typical Victorian built to house staff English.1 home business leaders were resident here. The council house was the meeting place of British leaders. This house had a housekeeper, waiter, cook ... The original furniture was Victorian. This neighborhood is preserved today as it once was.

It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April of 2013 and a smaller slide in September of 2013. Udachnaya was discovered on June 15, 1955, just two days after the discovery of the diamond pipe Mir by Soviet geologist Vladimir Shchukin and his team. It is more than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep, making it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine and Chuquicamata). The nearby settlement of Udachny is named for the deposit. As of 2010, Udachnaya pipe is controlled by Russian diamond company Alrosa, which planned to halt open-pit mining in favor of underground mining in 2010. The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds and an annual production capacity of 10.4 million carats Chuquicamata, or "Chuqui" as it is more familiarly known, is by excavated volume the biggest open pit copper mine in the world, located in the north of Chile, just outside of Calama, 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago. The mine is owned and operated by Codelco, a Chilean state enterprise, since the Chilean nationalization of copper in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its depth of 850 metres (2,790 ft) makes it the second deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA). The Diavik Diamond Mine is a diamond mine in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, about 300 kilometres (190 mi) north of Yellowknife. It has become an important part of the regional economy, employing 700, grossing C$100 million in sales, and producing approximately 7.5 million carats (1,500 kg (3,300 lb)) of diamonds annually.[2] The area was surveyed in 1992 and construction began in 2001, with production commencing in January 2003. It is connected by an ice road and Diavik Airport with a 5,235 ft (1,596 m) gravel runway regularly accommodating Boeing 737 jet aircraft. The Grasberg Mine is the largest gold mine and the third largest copper mine in the world. It is located in the province of Papua in Indonesia near Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain in Papua, and it has 19,500 employees. It is majority owned through a subsidiary by Freeport-McMoRan, which owns 90.64% of PT Freeport Indonesia, the principal operating subsidiary in Indonesia, including 9.36% owned through its wholly owned subsidiary, PT Indocopper Investama. The Government of Indonesia owns the remaining 9.36% of PT Freeport Indonesia. FCX operates under an agreement with the Government of Indonesia, which allows Freeport to conduct exploration, mining and production activities in a 24,700-acre area (Block A). It also conducts exploration activities in an approximate 500,000-acre area (Block B). All of Freeport's proven and probable mineral reserves and current mining operations are located in Block A. The 2006 production was 610,800 tonnes of copper; 58,474,392 grams of gold; and 174,458,971 grams of silver. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April of 2013 and a smaller slide in September of 2013... History Minerals, in the form of copper ore, were first discovered in Bingham Canyon in 1848 by two brothers, Sanford and Thomas Bingham, sons of Erastus Bingham, Mormon pioneers of September 1847, who grazed their family's and other's cattle and horses there. They reported their find to their leader, Brigham Young, who advised against pursuing mining operations... In 1850, the Bingham family went to settle what is now Weber County, leaving the canyon still today known by their name. It was not until 1863 that extraction of ore began and the potential of the canyon's mineral resources began to be widely recognized. At first, mining was difficult due to the area's rugged terrain, but a railroad reached the canyon in 1873... it was not until 1898 that plans for very large-scale exploitation of the canyon's ore bodies began to develop. That year, Samuel Newhouse and Thomas Weir formed the Boston Consolidated Mining Company, intending to increase mine development in the canyon. A more significant development took place in 1903, when Daniel C. Jackling and Enos A. Wall organized the Utah Copper Company. Utah Copper immediately began construction of a pilot mill at Copperton, just beyond the mouth of the canyon, and the company actually started mining in 1906. The success of Utah Copper in mining the huge but low-grade porphyry copper type orebody at Bingham Canyon revolutionized the copper industry, and set the pattern for the large open-pit porphyry copper mines that today dominate the copper industry worldwide. Utah Copper and Boston Consolidated merged in 1910. The Kennecott Copper Corporation, established in 1903 to operate mines in Kennecott, Alaska, purchased a financial interest in Utah Copper in 1915 and fully acquired the company in 1936. Bingham's Canyon mine expanded rapidly, and by the 1920s the region was a beehive of activity. Some 15,000 people of widely-varying ethnicity lived in the canyon, in large residential communities constructed on the steep canyon walls. The population declined rapidly as mining techniques improved, however, and several of the mining camps began to be swallowed up by the ever-expanding mine. By 1980, when Lark was dismantled, only Copperton, at the mouth of Bingham Canyon and with a population of 800, remained. For years, the largest open-pit mine in the world, it is still among the world's largest open-pit mines. Work to expand the mine 600 feet (180 m) east began in 2005, continuing to increase its size, growth, and capabilities... The extracted ore is treated at the Kennecott smelter at nearby Magna, Utah... The filtered concentrate slurry is piped 17 miles (27 km) to the smelter... Employing 1,800 employees and hundreds of contractors, 450,000 short tons (400,000 long tons; 410,000 t) of material are removed from the mine daily...

This is main pit when BHP finished here they through everything, machines plant, equipment you name it, into the pit and buried it, now it is being removed to gain access to the rich ore. The Iron Ore here is of high quality 67+%, you can weld the rocks together. This mine was opened originally pre WW2 lucky the Japs didn't get into Darwin and come down & get their mits on it......... Things would be dramatically different in Aussi today............any way Koolan Island has some interesting/amazing history worth a look on Wikipedia. Rio Tinto: Spain

03:29
The Río Tinto is a river in southwestern Spain that rises in the Sierra Morena mountains of Andalusia. It flows generally south-southwest, reaching the Gulf of Cádiz at Huelva. The Rio Tinto River has a unique red and orange colour. The colour is derived from the chemical makeup of the river. The river is extremely acidic and contains very high levels of iron. The combination of the acid water, heavy metals and high levels of iron give the river its unique color. The River maintains its color for an approximate length of 50 kilometers. After the 50 kilometer mark, the chemistry that makes the Rio Tinto river so unique appears to slowly decline, as with the odd coloring. The location where the chemistry of the river is altered is near a town called Niebla. The river's chemistry begins to significantly change following the town of Niebla owing to the fact that the Rio Tinto blends itself with other streams that are connected to the Atlantic Ocean. The length of the river is around 100 kilometers long and is located within the Iberian Pyrite Belt. This area has large amounts of ore and sulfide deposits. This specific region in Spain has seen many years of mining. The mining projects focus primarily on the river but ore deposits have also been found 20 kilometres from the shoreline. Rio Tinto has been the root of approximately 5000 years of ore extraction. Due to all of the mining activity in the area, the topography has been vastly modified. Source: Wikipedia

How Coal Is Mined and Refined - Top Coal Mining Spots in the World - Documentaries. Welcome to DOCUMENTARIES - home of the best documentary movies and documentary films. Coal mining is the process of extracting coal from the ground. Coal is valued for its energy content, and, since the 1880s, has been widely used to generate electricity. Steel and cement industries use coal as a fuel for extraction of iron from iron ore and for cement production. In the United Kingdom and South Africa, a coal mine and its structures are a colliery, a coal mine a pit, and the above-ground structures the pit head. In Australia, "colliery" generally refers to an underground coal mine. In the United States, "colliery" has been used to describe a coal mine operation but nowadays the word is not commonly used. Coal mining has had many developments over the recent years, from the early days of men tunnelling, digging and manually extracting the coal on carts, to large open cut and long wall mines. Mining at this scale requires the use of draglines, trucks, conveyors, hydraulic jacks and shearers. Mining & Aggregate Industry Solutions from MELTRIC

03:58
MELTRIC’s switch-rated plugs and receptacles are the superior choice for electrical connections in mining and other aggregate facilities. They are safe to make and break under load so qualified workers can quickly deenergize and reconfigure or relocate portable plants. When MELTRIC’s switch rated plugs and receptacles are installed, down-time critical motors can be replaced with plug and play simplicity allowing conveyor lines or portable pumps to be up and running in a matter of minutes instead of hours. MELTRIC’s Switch rated plugs and receptacles are a combination plug, receptacle and disconnect switch in the same device. An integral switch mechanism inside the receptacle safely deenergizes the plug before an operator can withdraw it. Once the plug is removed, a safety shutter shields the operator from live parts. And the plug can be easily locked out. UL & CSA motor circuit and branch circuit disconnect switch-ratings shown on the device-label, allow them to function as the code required ‘line of sight’ disconnect, so the need, space, and expense of a separate non-fused disconnect switch is eliminated. MELTRIC switch rated plugs and receptacles protect against arc flash and help facilities comply with NFPA 70E or CSA Z462 electrical safety standards. Connection or disconnection of the plug is considered an NFPA 70E defined “Normal Operation” so PPE is not required. MINING ENGINEERING meaning - MINING ENGINEERING definition - MINING ENGINEERING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. Mining engineering is an engineering discipline that applies science and technology to the extraction of minerals from the earth. Mining engineering is associated with many other disciplines, such as geology, mineral processing and metallurgy, geotechnical engineering and surveying. A mining engineer may manage any phase of mining operations – from exploration and discovery of the mineral resource, through feasibility study, mine design, development of plans, production and operations to mine closure. With the process of Mineral extraction, some amount of waste and uneconomic material are generated which are the primary source of pollution in the vicinity of mines. Mining activities by their nature cause a disturbance of the natural environment in and around which the minerals are located. Mining engineers must therefore be concerned not only with the production and processing of mineral commodities, but also with the mitigation of damage to the environment both during and after mining as a result of the change in the mining area. Mining Engineers in India are earning relatively high salaries in comparison to many other professions. The average salary for a Mining Engineer in India is $15,250. However, the salaries are always highly determined by the level of skill, where the organisation is based and which organisation you are working for. In comparison to salaries of Mining Engineer’s working in other regions, such as Canada, the United States, Australia and the United Kingdom, the salaries are dismal, however when comparing salaries from one region to another, there are many factors that need to be taken into consideration, such as the cost of living etc.In the United States, there are an estimated 6,630 employed mining engineers. The mean yearly salary for a mining engineer in the U.S. is $90,070 .

TerraCom Road Hauling Coal 6

00:17
A few months ago TerraCom successfully applied for the mining lease at Blair Athol mine to be transferred to them from Rio Tinto. One of the conditions of the lease transfer was that they had guaranteed access to a rail loading facility. TerraCom gave the Department of Natural Resources & Mines a document that said that Glencore had guaranteed access to it's rail loading facility at Blair Athol mine. Now TerraCom has disputed the price and wants put 180 road trains on the Peak Downs Highway every day, endangering the lives of the drivers and other road users. That's one one truck every 8 minutes, 24 hours per day. All to save a few dollars in freight costs. The Dept of Transport and Main Roads should reject TerraCom's application to ship coal along the road. An alternative exists that won't endanger the lives of the road users. TerraCom should live up to the conditions of its mining lease transfer and use the Glencore rail loading facility. Sign the petition https://www.communityrun.org/petitions/no-road-hauled-coal

Largest known diamond in North America found in Canada

01:27
Largest known diamond in North America found in Canada A 552-carat yellow diamond was recently unearthed in Canada -- the largest ever found in North America. Mining company Dominion Diamond Mines said in a press release on Thursday the diamond was discovered in October at the Diavik Diamond Mine in Canada's Northwest Territories. The "astonishing gemstone" measures 33.74 millimeters by 54.56 millimeters, the company said. It was uncovered in the initial screening process at Diavik's recovery plant, the company said. "Abrasion markings on the stone's surface attest to the difficult journey it underwent during recovery, and the fact that it remains intact is remarkable." Dominion Diamond Mines added the diamond will not be sold in its rough form, and it's too early to determine its value. The company will select a partner to cut and polish the stone. According to the company, this find exceeds a previous record held by the "Diavik Foxfire," a 187.7-carat diamond discovered at the same mine in 2015 by mining company Rio Tinto. Dominion owns 40% of the Diavik Diamond Mine.

Introduction to Longwall Mining in Illinois

02:51
In November 2009, Eco-Justice Collaborative (www.ecojusticecollaborative.org) traveled with representatives of Topless America and the Sierra Club to central Illinois to take a first-hand look at longwall mining. This highly-mechanized form of mining includes planned subsidence, causing land to drop from 4 to 6 feet. It is occurring under some of the best farmland in the world, trading prime farmland for cheap coal. As land subsides, foundations crack and septic systems and wells are affected. Residents often leave their homes and farms, depopulating and destroying what used to be cohesive communities, rather than negotiate repairs with mining companies. Longwall mining is Illinois form of mountaintop removal mining. As with mountaintop removal mining, toxic chemicals are used to process coal. Evidence suggests that these chemicals are leaching into ground water and water supplies at selected locations. This video highlights impacts in central Illinois Macoupin County, and takes an initial look at the proposed Deer Run Mine in Montgomery County which, if constructed as planned, will be the largest coal mine in the U.S. To learn more, contact Pam or Lan Richart at [email protected] or Citizens Against Longwall Mining: [email protected]

SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Mining Machinery Engineering is an interdisciplinary branch of engineering that applies the principles of mechanical engineering, electrical engineering and mining engineering for analysis, design, manufacturing and maintenance of mining equipment. It includes study of various aspects of equipment used in earthworks, mineral processing, bulk material handling, drilling and construction. Surface mining equipment evolved at a high pace in the 20th century as the scale of mining grew up. In the first twenty years of the 1900s, steam power was largely replaced by internal combustion engines and electric motors. Till the 1970s such equipment mainly used mechanical system and cables for power transmission after which they started to be replaced by hydraulic drive system for small machines. However, mechanical and cable drives are still dominant in large machines. Similar development took place in the development of underground machinery. Drilling and blasting replaced manual cutting of ores. Lately, use of continuous mining machines has become order of the day to comply with environmental regulations, protect surface features and also to achieve increased production rate. As the concern for safety in mines increased and highly stringent regulations were put in place, it required mining machinery engineers to be highly conversant with such regulations. Since Mining Machinery Engineering is a wholesome branch, the course of which covers disciplines like Mechanical Engineering, Mining Engineering, Mineral Engineering, Electrical Engineering, the employment opportunities are tremendous. Mining Machinery Engineering provides excellent career opportunities in various industries such as mining, heavy earth moving equipment, construction industry, mineral processing and other related industries. It is recognized by the Ministry of Labor, Government of India as equivalent to mechanical and electrical engineering for working in mines. The unique branch of Mining Machinery has a plethora of recruitment scope. Every single engineer of Mining Machinery Engineering has a vast on site experience of Machines deployed in both opencast as well as underground mines along with this, students are well versed with various bulk solid handling equipment like crushers, conveyors, feeders etc. The course of Mining Machinery Engineering also caters to construction equipment like Motor Graders, Dozers, Compactors etc. The amount of cost saved by the company hiring Mining Machinery Engineering graduates is quite high as every Mining Machinery Engineer has a multi-disciplinary approach towards solving problems owing to their vast area of expertise.

[Wikipedia] Wyodak Mine

02:43
The Wyodak mine is a coal mine located 6 miles east of Gillette, Wyoming in the United States in the coal-rich Powder River Basin. The operation is an open pit mine that utilizes a truck and shovel mining method to produce a low-sulfur, sub-bituminous coal that is used for domestic energy generation. The mine ships its coal to the adjacent Wyodak power plant and to other customers via railroad. The mine is operated by Wyodak Resources Development, a subsidiary of the Black Hills Corporation. As of 2009, Wyodak had reserves of 294mm tons of sub-bituminous coal and a maximum permitted production capacity of 10mm tons per year. Typical annual production has been in the 5-6mm ton range for the last several years though. In 2008, the mine produced just over 6.0 million short tons of coal, making it the 30th-largest producer of coal in the United States. The average quality of the coal produced from the Wyodak Mine is 8,050 BTU/lb, 0.40% Sulfur, 6.0% Ash, and 0.94% Sodium (of the ash). Train loading operations at the mine are done by a flood loading system that is coupled to a "weigh-in-motion" track scale system. Silo capacity at the mine's rail loop, which can accommodate a single unit train, is 24,000 tons.
