Mining in Australia is a significant primary industry and major contributor to the Australian economy with many different ores and minerals are mined throughout the country. The good news is that the Australian mining industry employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. As you are probably aware mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. A talented Resume Writer will be skilled in selling your skills and wording the document in a way that includes all important key words. This will give you the best chance of getting one of these jobs and they will also see you are serious about a career in mining due to the efforts you have made in presenting a polished document that clearly states what you have to offer. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples you look at. Many Australians want to know what type of entry level jobs are available in the mining industry that don't require a trade qualification. Both men and women are sought after by mining companies offering jobs such as Cleaner, Utilities, Trades Assistant, Service Crew, Catering, Kitchen Hand, Utilities and Laundry Work. Some of these jobs will require previous experience in areas such as cleaning, catering and hospitality but don't necessarily require previous experience working on mine sites. The main skills and attributes the mining companies are looking for include: - An understanding and commitment to workplace safety - Willingness to travel or work away from home for extended periods - Ability to complete additional courses or training - Strong work ethic and willingness to work 12 hour shifts - Flexible and adaptable approach to work - Capacity to work unsupervised and as part of a team - Punctual, reliable - High level of physical health and fitness - Willingness to undertake drug and alcohol testing as mine sites are focused on a high level of safety and you cannot be under the influence of these substances when working on site You may be wondering, how do I find out about these jobs? Mining jobs are all advertised on the careers pages of the major mining companies such as BHP, Rio Tinto and the Compass Group. You can find the companies through Google Search or email us and we will happily provide an up to date list for you. Mining jobs are also advertised on sites such as seek.com.au which is the main job search site in Australia. You can find the jobs by searching under the mining industry section and by typing key words such Dump Truck which will display all the current jobs available relating to dump truck driving. Mining Jobs TV Episode 3 - Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs

MINING JOBS TV Episode 3: Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to Episode 3 of Mining Jobs TV. Hi my name is Matt and I will be speaking to you today about unskilled and entry level jobs in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. You may have probably heard the stories about a friend of a friend who is earning over $100,000 a year on a mine somewhere in Western Australia or Queensland and wondered how you could get a mining job too. Entry level or unskilled jobs, like trade assistants or plant operators are hard to get now as every man and his dog are applying for them. The best way to get these jobs would be to move out to the little mining towns and live there and register with all the labour hire companies, there are hundreds of them. Trades people like fitters, welders, boilermakers and electricians still have a fairly good chance of picking up work on mining sites. If you don't have a trade, doing a rigging or scaffolding course would give you a good chance at getting a job, the courses are only about 4 weeks long, but they are fairly expensive. Other unskilled or basic jobs available include cleaners, laundry workers and kitchen hands which is not difficult if you have hospitality training and experience. Talking to people who are currently working on mining sites can be a big help, especially if you have no previous experience or qualifications. It would be even better if you could get in contact with expats from your own country who are working on mining sites. They can let you know who to call and what you need to do. If you are inexperienced and unqualified you need to be fit and ready for physical labour. The work will be very repetitive and routine based with long 12 hour days, so you really need to be mentally prepared, as well as physically. Some mines will have a very high turnover of workers. This is because many people go to work on the mines not knowing what to expect. Because there can be such a high turnover, you may not start earning big money straight away, although your wages won't be small either. Once you've proved yourself to be a reliable worker, your wages should increase. Most mining companies will run police checks, as well as drug and alcohol tests. Even though there are wet mess areas on-site where workers can unwind and drink alcohol, they do have to drink in moderation and be fit-for-work before their shift starts Shutdowns are exactly what the name suggests. Every now and then mining sites need to shut down for upgrades, maintenance or repairs and they usually hire people temporarily to work during shut downs. A lot of the work is unskilled and doesn't last very long, so it's great for backpackers who want to keep on travelling and don't want to make a full-time commitment. It's also a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable on-site experience. To do certain mining jobs you will need to get licences and training, or 'tickets' as they are more commonly known. There are lots of different types of tickets depending on what type of work you're going to do. Some tickets can be very expensive and mines in different states require different tickets, so you really need to do your research before you start spending money on courses. Don't think that just because you're female that the mining companies and recruiters won't consider you. The mining industry in Australia is becoming increasingly gender neutral. It's not just cooking and cleaning jobs either on offer for women either; more and more women are working on Australian mining sites, and in some cases, companies even prefer women for certain jobs. For example, a popular job for women on mining sites is driving a dump truck because research has shown that women are easier on the multi-million dollar equipment yet still get the job done. It's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted via phone on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. Mining Jobs TV Episode 2 - Mining Career Opportunities

05:19
MINING JOBS TV Episode 2: Mining Career Opportunities Welcome to the second episode of Mining Jobs TV. My name is Matt and I will be talking about career opportunities that are available in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. We understand that many people these days are looking at getting ahead financially and seeking career changes - for that reason mining is a great opportunity for many people, regardless of your skills and experience. You could be forgiven for thinking that mining is a fairly specialised profession and that to get a job in a mine, you need to have worked in one before. That may sometimes be the case, but as you'll soon discover, not always. The reality is that across the board, there are probably just as many jobs that DON'T require experience as those that do. Obviously, there are some positions that require certain levels of experience or qualifications that you may not possess. For example, you can't go from being a builder's labourer to a Principal Mine Geologist overnight. And it's highly unlikely that you'll be expected to progress from working in an accountant's office one day, to setting the explosives in an open cut coal mine the next. Keep in mind that the demand for people, both skilled and unskilled is huge, and opportunities exist across all levels. It is in every respect a jobseekers' market. You just need to know what you're looking for, and more importantly, how to look for it. In the last year, mining and resources jobs in Australia grew by an impressive 13% - a figure unmatched by any other job sector. By location, jobs have grown by 5% in Western Australia, 21% in Queensland and a whopping 42% in New South Wales. Simple mathematics will tell you that there are just not enough qualified or experienced people to fill those numbers. If you want to work in resources, it pays to be resourceful. A great way to start is by looking for jobs in mining that relate somehow to what you're doing now -- anything from cleaning to hospitality or admin people have all got skills the mining companies are looking for. The Seek.com.au website will actually help you do it. You start by selecting 'Mining, Resources & Energy' in the Classification box and then you can drill down from there, looking at current jobs that appear for your perusal. You will see that there are many skills and qualifications that are very transferrable from other industries to mining. Mines need engineers, plumbers, electricians, builders, boilermakers, welders, mechanics, IT personnel, HR people, medical staff, logistics experts, heavy vehicle drivers to name just a few. Australian mining companies employees people across a broad range of areas from unskilled labourers to mining engineers. There are also opportunities in administrative, human resources and management positions together with numerous trade related opportunities such as Trades Assistant, Boilermakers, Carpenters, Welders, Electricians and Plumbers. But what if you don't have any skills or experience that relate to the mining industry? Fear not - there are still loads of entry level mining for you to choose from and you'll find many of them on the SEEK website. You'll soon discover that mines need a whole host of people like drillers' offsiders, administrative assistants, cooks and catering staff, cleaners and maintenance staff, childcare workers and general labourers. And many of these positions require no experience whatsoever. All you need to bring is a sense of adventure, flexibility and a willingness to work. As you have probably heard, mining jobs are achievable yet very competitive. It is not unusual for HR Managers to receive 500 or 1000 plus resumes for an advertised vacancy ... so it's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. I enjoyed talking to you today about mining jobs and hope that you have found this episode helpful and I look forward to talking to you again in Episode 3 where I will provide an insight into unskilled and entry level mining jobs. Coal mining in America's heartland | DW Documentary

42:26
West Virginia, USA - under its wild mountain idyll hides the "black hell": A labyrinth of dark tunnels - hard life in a coal mine. [Online until: 15 August 2019] "Wild, wonderful West Virginia” - that’s how the small state nestled in the Appalachian Mountains bills itself. This documentary reports on the daily struggle facing local coal miners hoping for help from Donald Trump; a sheriff combating the opioid epidemic that has already claimed thousands of lives; and a Cherokee environmental activist whose efforts have earned her intimidation and threats. The whistle of a locomotive at the front of an old coal train, quiet winding roads, and hardly a highway to be found - that’s still the image that many have of West Virginia today. But beneath the forest-covered mountains lies a labyrinth of tunnels just one meter high, in which miners still spend their entire working days toiling in the dark on their hands and knees. The camera team accompanies a traditional coal mining family as they go about their day. Together with the family’s two sons, Scott and Steven Lockhart, the crew ventures into the mine. Conversations with the miners reveal why people who had been lifelong Democratic Party supporters are suddenly placing their hopes for the future in Donald Trump. But the documentary also ventures beyond the coal mines to uncover the lesser-known sides of this Appalachian state - from snake-handling Pentecostal churches to the bluegrass and mountain ballads of Alan Cathead Johnston. We also speak with Sheriff Martin West, who sued the country’s three biggest pharmaceutical makers for their role in the opioid epidemic that has swept the region. And we meet another person who has decided to fight back: Maria Gunnoe, a young Cherokee activist who has dared to take on the coal barons that are ravaging the beautiful mountains of West Virginia. _______ DW Documentary gives you knowledge beyond the headlines. Thanks for watching, subscribe for more videos: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCPLbW-HoiBuA8yepLypwA6g?sub_confirmation=1 More than 100 jobs to go from major Hunter Valley coal mine, union says ABC Newcastle By Nancy Notzon and Garth Russell  More than 100 workers at a major Hunter Valley coal mine are preparing to lose their jobs, according to a mining union, and it fears they will be replaced with casuals. The Construction, Forestry, Mining and Energy Union (CFMEU) said it had been called to meetings on Tuesday with managers at Hunter Valley Operations (HVO), an open-cut coal mine near Singleton.  The facility, which employs about 1,300 workers, is joint-owned by mining giants Yancoal and Glencore. "They formally advised us they were going to make 116 jobs redundant," CFMEU northern district president Peter Jordan said.  "The concern for us is that they advised us when they took over the job, Glencore, in May that they were doing a 90-day review and that they would sit down and have discussions with us about that.  The news comes just days after Yancoal announced more than 200 employees from its Austar mine west of Cessnock would be stood down or redeployed, putting the future of the operation in doubt. In a statement, Glencore said it had started consultation with employees and the CFMEU over a proposed restructure at the Singleton project.  "The restructure follows a review by the HVO management team now operating the mine on behalf of Yancoal and Glencore," the statement read. "The review has identified opportunities to reconfigure the operations, reducing the amount of equipment required." A company spokesperson could not confirm the number of staff affected by the proposed changes at HVO.Fears workforce will be casualised But Mr Jordan is concerned staff being made redundant will be replaced by casuals.  "There is a high level of casual contractors in the workplace and there has been no indication by Glencore in their announcement this week that they'd be offloading the casual contractors," he said.  "In fact, they're targeting the permanent production workers. "I think it's that implementation. We experienced that with Glencore last year." A class action representing hundreds of Hunter Valley coal workers is already underway, with firm Adero Law alleging mining giant BHP has taken advantage of contract labour-hire companies to engage casual workers rather than permanent employees at its Mount Arthur coal mine near Muswellbrook. Glencore said discussions on the changes at HVO would be open and transparent. #More, #than100, #jobs, #from, #HunterValley, #coal, #mine, #union, #says #huntervalleyoperations, #glencore, #yancoal, #coal, #opencut, #mining

Bolivian Child Miners Work In Dangerous Conditions To Help Support Their Families

03:46
An estimated 160 million children around the world spend most days working. Nearly 11 million of them live in the Americas — and in Bolivia, thousands work at the most dangerous job: mining. The Bolivian government recently lowered the legal working age from 14 to 10 years old — in order to at least regulate the labor conditions of children who already have the dangerous jobs. Richard, 15, has been working in Cerro Rico mine since he was 10-years-old. “There is no one to talk to in the mine, you can’t go play, there are no friends, there’s nothing,” Richard told VICE News. He wants to stop working but his job helps support his six siblings. Miners like Richard can earn up to $86 per week. But it’s not just the little they make. Local NGO’s say that on average 14 miners die every month from accidents and a lung disease called silicosis. VICE News followed Richard as he worked inside Cerro Rico's dangerous tunnels. ZAIRE: AMERICAN COMPANY SIGN MINING CONTRACT WITH REBEL ALLIANCE

02:30
English/Nat Zaire's rebel alliance paused in its struggle to topple Marshal Mobutu Sese Seko from the nation's presidency to sign a multimillion (US) dollar deal Wednesday. An American company has signed the first mining contract with the rebels, who just last week captured the Shabah district, which is rich in minerals. The Zairean rebel alliance captured the mineral rich Shabah district last week. They have been quick to put the resources to use. Shabah means copper in Lingalah the language used in most of Zaire - and the Shabah district is one of the richest areas in the world for copper as well as zinc and cobalt. The mining industry was controlled until now by the Zaire state-owned company Jacaomins. Its management was riddled with corruption, and production in the mines over recent years has fallen to 30 percent. Over the last few weeks mining companies from all over the world have sent their executives to woo the new rulers of this rich land - as it became apparent that the rebels would capture Lubumbashi, the district's capital. On Wednesday, the American company, American Mining Fields Incorporated, signed the first mining contract with the rebel alliance. American Mining Fields won the contract away from Jacaomins, but the contract was not implemented. Mark Collins, Executive Vice President of American Mining Fields, has been in and out of Zaire no fewer than 13 times over the last year. Collins says he finds the rebels are by far easier to deal with. SOUNDBITE: (English) "Basically these visits, in fact all of these visits have been essentially to negotiate deals with the Jacaomins, which as you know was the state owned mining company in this country. Certainly towards the latter part of that period, dealing with the Jacaomins, and I guess as a result of the changing situation of the government, has been increasingly difficult. Week after week things change as is evidenced by what happened today. We believe that is changing." SUPER CAPTION: Mark Collins, Executive Vice President of American Mining Fields Inc. One part of the new project is the Kapushi mine - which is said to be the largest zinc and copper mine in the world. Production there stopped in 1993 because of President Mobutu Sese Seko's poor administration. Thirty (m) million (US) dollars will be used to rehabilitate the mine, bringing thousands of jobs to the region. The rebel alliance say they have received no money for the contract up front and maintain they only want what is good for the people of Zaire. SOUNDBITE: (English) "We have to stand up and crush this dictatorship and restore the rule of law in this country to help our people." SUPER CAPTION: Mwana Nanga Mawanpanga, rebel Minister of Finance In all, around one (b) billion (US) dollars will pour into Zaire over the next three years, giving a much needed boost to the economy that until now has only been exploited by the Mobutu regime. ANC has pleaded with mining companies to review job cuts

00:28
The ANC has made an impassioned plea to mining companies to review their plans to cut thousands of jobs. Emerging from a Lekgotla, the party has cautioned against retrenchments in the midst of high unemployment and a fragile economy. Last week global mining companies Anglo and Lonmin, with large operations in South Africa, said they were plannning to cut about six thousand jobs each. It came while we reported that up to 10 thousand jobs are under threat in iron ore mining and steel production - due to an influx of cheaper imports. ANC National Executive Council resolutions will be discussed at this week's Cabinet Lekgotla. The party's secretary general Gwede Mantache has called the announced job cuts unpatriotic. Gold fields to slash 1,560 jobs

08:53
Gold Fields is the latest miner to announce job cuts in an effort to restore its operations. Mines Minister Gwede Mantashe is not happy, saying the miner is not following processes outlined in the law. The gold producer says it’ll cut 1,560 jobs at its South Deep mine, which has been reporting losses. 70% of these will be permanent workers, while the rest are contractors. The move comes just a week after Impala Platinum announced plans to cut 13,000 jobs. Gold Fields says the planned job cuts will be done according to the book. Courtesy DStv403

Job losses in the mining sector: Warren Beech

06:36
The National Union of Mineworkers says over 30 thousand jobs have been lost in the mining sector over the last two years - with more job losses looming. The Union has accused the mining companies of speeding up firings and retrenchments to weaken unions prior to this year's wage negotiations in the mining sector. It says it's members continue to report planned retrenchments at operations countrywide. And that mining houses are blaming high labour costs, recurring strikes and weak commodity prices. Yet Another Poem About Coal Mines and Global Warming #StopAdani

03:16
I often feel frustrated that mainstream discussions around mega-mines like the Adani Carmichael coal mine are framed as binary ‘jobs vs the environment’ debates. Although big mining companies like to tell us otherwise, the coal industry actually employs a fairly small number of people compared to other more socially valuable industries like agriculture and tourism. I’ve spoken to plenty of resource industry workers in places like Gladstone and Mackay who tell me that the big mining companies consistently place profits ahead of their employees’ long-term welfare, and that as soon as the boom slows down, they cut people loose. The big end of town tries to manipulate us into thinking that this a question of inner-city latte-sippers versus workers in the regions, when actually it’s about a few tax-dodging multinational corporations screwing over all of us (wherever we live). Personally I can’t stand lattes. If I’m perfectly honest, I also don’t really care all that much about clown fish. But I do care about the millions of people around the world whose lives will be destroyed by floods and droughts if small, wealthy, developed nations like Australia don’t lead the charge in advocating for drastic global action to prevent climate change. There are no jobs on a dead planet. A ‘strong domestic economy’ won’t count for much when a billion climate refugees are looking for safety, and prime agricultural land turns to desert. I’m sure there are politicians in both the major parties who are privately opposed to projects like the Adani mega-mine but feel they have to toe the party line. They are cowards. If they don’t publicly oppose and vote against it, they are colluding with billionaires who would happily screw over the rest of us in pursuit of greater profits. Anyone who thinks that we can’t improve ordinary people’s quality of life unless we support the fossil fuel industry is a sucker. Just because some cashed-up lobbyist tells you this is the only way to create jobs and generate revenue doesn’t make it true. All of us have a moral duty to prevent projects like this from going ahead – to stand up for the rights of First Nations peoples, to protect our water table and farmland, to challenge the corruption and manipulation of our political system, to give voice to the billions of people in poorer countries who will be hit hardest by climate change, and to preserve global ecosystems for future generations. In a context where big business is undemocratically influencing political decision-makers, the moral duty to prevent these mega-mine projects overrides the more general moral duty to abide by the rule of law. But this isn't just about one coal mine. This is about a morally bankrupt system that is structurally incapable of responding to the impending threat of climate change. Regardless of whether this particular coal project actually goes ahead, the fact that our political establishment is even entertaining the idea of supporting it, and continues to do so little to shift away from coal exports and fossil fuel dependency, shows how ineffective our political leaders really are. I’m willing to get arrested if I think it will help stop the Adani Carmichael coal mine going ahead, and I know thousands of other people are too. Take note Premier Palaszczuk. http://www.stopadani.com/why_stop_adani https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_wfjwlWlGTk

Golden Gamble. Gold mining in the Philippines, a dirty business

25:41
More films about the Philippines: https://rtd.rt.com/tags/philippines/ - The use of child labour in the Philippine’s Paracale, or ‘Goldtown’, is widespread - Extracting gold involves diving into mud-filled shafts and using toxic mercury - Poverty and lack of alternative jobs force people into this highly dangerous work - Many die young due to work accidents or breathing problems, others develop chronic illness The Philippines’ town of Paracale was dubbed “Goldtown” for its rich deposits of the precious metal. Despite government attempts to regulate mining, illegal pits are still commonplace. They lack even the most basic health and safety and workers are exposed to toxic mercury fumes. Dirty water causes skin diseases and they live with the constant threat of being buried alive. Workers continue to take these risks day after day, because there is no other source of income. Many of the gold miners are children whose families can’t afford to send them to school. Some gold is panned on the surface, but a lot has to be extracted from underground. To do that, prospectors dive into narrow, mud-filled shafts, uses snorkelling masks and long tubes too breathe. If the mine collapses, they have no chance of escape. They have a saying here, ‘while you’re down the mine, you have one foot in the grave’. Several miners have already died that way, others from respiratory diseases caused by inhaling mercury fumes. The toxic metal is used in gold extraction with no safety precautions, so it poisons the air, the ground and the water, causing long-term harm to the whole community. Another danger to the inhabitants of Paracale comes from disused mines, abandoned and left open, waiting for unsuspecting victims to fall in. The business takes its toll on workers, their families and the community. They have been known to demonstrate, demanding safer working conditions, better pay and other job opportunities, but change is slow. Meanwhile, extreme poverty among people who produce one of the world’s most precious metals leaves them no option but to continue with this pitiless occupation. Desperate men and children scour underwater mine-shafts in this terrifying report. Breathing through nothing more than a thin pipe connected to an air compressor, going 30 foot deep underwater for hours in search of gold is all in a day’s work for 16-year-old Gerald. "I'm afraid, if the earth collapses, I will get buried underneath" says the teenager. Surrounded by rock walls in the pitch black darkness of the water, the men chip away at walls for 3 hours. They find no gold. For many like Gerald school is a distant memory, and illegally diving for gold the only alternative to starvation. Hundreds of deaths by electrocution, drowning and even the possibility of Mercury poisoning have had little impact on compressor mining activities, which continue un-policed and unregulated. There appears little hope of change on the horizon. "If I could only give job opportunities - I will take them away from compressor mining. It is just that I have no alternative at this point" says Ricarte Padilla, Mayor of Jose Panganiban - Philippines' so-called "Gold Coast". As it is, the children and family men unearthing 60-80kg of gold per month see the lions share of wealth disappear into the Chinese black market. South Africa's mining magnate Patrice Motsepe says government and unions need to work together to preserve jobs and the mining sector. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Motsepe Foundation'S Meeting with traditional leaders, to donate 50 million rand for rural development initiatives. South African mines are going through a crisis that could have devastating effects on the economy as the whole. Mining companies have already issued eleven-thousand retrenchment notices to employees, a move that has been slammmed by unions. How to introduce yourself in a job interview

14:38
Have you ever wondered that why despite of having listed all the details about yourself in the resume, the interviewer still likes to start the session by asking you “Tell me something about yourself” The reason for this is that people like listening to information been presented to them in the form of verbal expression in contrast to referring to a printed document. Yes this simply means that they directly like to hear from the horses’s mouth that how would the candidates like to narrate the story of their life, in their own words. “Tell us something about yourself” doesn’t means that you go right back to your childhood memories and share tales of your first love or your favorite ROCK band or your obsession with Harry Potter; rather think about the awards, accolades or experiences you’ve had in your life. Consider the themes, personality traits and skills that come across through these experiences and introspect that which of these are the most important to get across through recruiters. Through personal introduction, the interviewer is giving you a chance to highlight all the key features of your personal and professional life, the top experiences you’ve had so far and the most influential skills you possess. Follow the points mentioned in the video, the next time you face a job interview and enhance the chances of you getting selected!!
