Growing demand for batteries for electric cars and power storage is driving increased investment in lithium mining in Western Australia. WA is currently supplying more than 40 per cent of the world's lithium and a new mine in the Pilbara is the latest in a string of investments in the industry. The West Australian Government is now encouraging industry to build a battery factory in the state to capitalise on the boom. Report on Goldsworthy township closure and the move to Shay Gap. Goldsworthy (named after the geographical feature Mount Goldsworthy) is a former mining town in Western Australia east of Port Hedland and located in the Shire of East Pilbara. It was the first iron ore mine in the Pilbara Region of Western Australia. 700 people lived in 200 houses at Goldsworthy at its peak. The mine at Goldsworthy was closed on 22 December 1982 and mining operations ceased at Shay Gap in 1993. The town was abandoned in 1992. Upon closure, all buildings were removed, all vegetation not indigenous to the local area was burnt and the roads torn up. This was done in accordance with the government's policy of regrowth to avoid the occurrence of ghost towns. Shay Gap was an iron ore mining town in the Pilbara region of Western Australia, 1,574 kilometres (978 mi) north northeast of Perth and 188 kilometres (117 mi) east of Port Hedland. Shay Gap was a company town, developed by Goldsworthy Mining Limited and designed by Lawrence Howroyd in the 1960s to mine the nearby iron ore deposits. It was formally gazetted as a town in 1972.

A ride on the tram in Whiteman park, north Perth Perth Electric Tramway society (PETS) tram number 329, formerly from Melbourne the tram runs through Whiteman Park, which is also home to a transport museum, car museum, tractor museum, wildlife sanctuary and also a miniature railway unfortunately the 'historic' miniature railway was running a knockoff Thomas the tank petrol steam engine and we decided we wouldn't bother with that as none of our party was a 6 year old, which was a shame as according to their website they have some nice heritage locos that they use. :-( we were disappointed but there we go, we had this nice tram ride instead what also is a shame, that the tram society does not display any of its other trams or workshops for people to view what is happening, so even though there are lots of other trams, we could only look at this one find the tramway museum here www.pets.org.au

An abandoned explore I just happened to find by chance while out looking for an abandoned crystal mine not too long ago. While out searching for the mine I found this cute little cabin and what was even better was the very well preserved 30's caravan that had at some point been built into the dwelling. The cabin was cute and a nice little distraction from the frustration of NOT finding the crystal mine but the true star in this find was the van. Totally original, made out of Masonite and a restorers dream. I would love to be able to have this caravan to restore back to it's former glory and after some research on the type of van it was, found out that a restore van like this from the 30's is worth around $30,000 aus dollars. Money aside I would just love to own it. maybe one day I will head back and try to find out who might own it and see if I could obtain it. How it got to where it is now is interesting because I had to navigate some hairy dirt track to get to where it was plus try and cross a rocky river bed in my 4wd to get there. Anyways, cute little explore, maybe from the look of what was in the cabin a single guy escaping the world that may have had a slight drinking problem? Leave a comment and let me know what you think. I appreciate all your comments. Thank you to my new subscribers. Give me a thumbs up if you liked the video and see you next explore. Follow me in instagram @ https://www.instagram.com/mkuebler5/

Collie, Western Australia From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Population: 7,084 (2006) Established: 1897 213 km (132 mi) S of Perth 59 km (37 mi) E of Bunbury Collie is a town in the South West region of Western Australia, 213 kilometres (132 mi) south of the state capital, Perth, and 59 kilometres (37 mi) inland from the regional city and port of Bunbury. It is near the junction of the Collie and Harris Rivers, in the middle of dense jarrah forest and the only coalfields in Western Australia. At the 2006 census, Collie had a population of 7,084. Collie is mainly known as a coal-producing centre, but also offers industrial, agricultural and aquaculture tourism industries. Muja Power station is located east of the town, and to its west is the Wellington Dam, a popular location for fishing, swimming and boating. James Stirling named the town after the river on which it is situated, which in turn is named after Dr Alexander Collie. He and William Preston were the first Europeans to explore the area in 1829. Coal was discovered in the area by a shepherd named George March in the early 1880s. The coal fields were developed in the late 1890s and the townsite surveyed and gazetted in 1897. Collie was once referred to as a "dirty mining town", but on 8 April 2006 it won the Australian Tidy Towns Competition from finalists from six States and the Northern Territory. Collie was named the top Tidy Town because of the commitment of the community to recycling, waste management, beautification and community projects. Contents [hide] 1 Industry and economy 2 Education 3 Tourism and facilities 4 Geography 4.1 Climate 5 Gallery 6 References 7 External links Industry and economy Collie has a significant role in the provision of electricity for Western Australia. There are two coal mines in the town and two power stations. The government of Western Australia will soon commission a new base load power station, for which a number of Collie base proposals have been made. Initially Western Collieries, the Wesfarmers Premier Coal mine continues to produce 3-4 million tonnes of coal per year. It contains enough reserves for another 100 years of mining at the present rate. The Griffin Coal mine is owned by Ric Stowe. Education Collie has four primary schools, Fairview Primary School, Amaroo Primary School, Saint Brigid's Catholic College and Wilson Park Primary School, and one high school, Collie Senior High School. Tourism and facilities Tourist attractions at Collie include the Steam Locomotive Museum, Collie Museum and Wellington Dam. Parks include Soldier's Memorial Park and natural features include Stockton Lake and Collie River. Collie also hosts the Kostecki Motorplex, one of Western Australia's only permanent motorsport venues outside the Perth metropolitan area.

A remake of our original video of Aldbury. This time it was filmed with DCC sound chipped locomotives at our club rooms. We hope you enjoy Aldbury II, the layout can be seen at Perth Model Railway Show, 27 and 28 June 2015 - Scotland's Summer Show. www.perthmrc.com Perth Model Railway Show. As usual it will be at the Dewars Centre Perth, 5 minutes from Perth Station. For full details please see our website. Aldbury is a fictitious terminus station at the end of single track branch line serving a small town set in the West of England. The layout has a Great Western background and locomotives and rolling stock from that company are usually to be seen either in pre-nationalised or British Railways livery as the layout buildings and features are timeless over the two periods in railway history. The layout is end to end operation and medium size trains are run from the station to the train turntable which is off the scenic display. The layout is wired for both DC and DCC operation and the points are controlled by Seep point motors with switches and the signals operate via motors and servos. Credits - The layout was originally built by Terry Taylor, a former member of Leigh Model Railway Society in Lancashire and donated to the club by Graeme Whitehead of Doune, Stirlingshire who latterly owned the layout, so all credit to them for allowing the layout to be displayed again. It has been refurbished and altered to allow DCC operation by our members and is available for exhibition again. Awards: At its first outing at the MMRG show at Elgin in March, 2011, the layout won the Moray Quaich, voted best layout by other exhibitors.

As motorists we can sometimes feel uncertain, confused or frustrated when we approach an oversize load under escort. Pilot and Traffic Escort vehicles are there to warn other road users of the presence of large, slow-moving loads and ensure the load arrives at their destination safely. When you see a Heavy Vehicle Pilot and / or Traffic Escort Warden; 1. Slow down 2. Move to the left 3. Be prepared to stop 4. Always follow directions from the Pilot or Traffic Escort Warden.

Exploring the old railway tracks, POW camps and ruins around Jarrahdale and Mundairing. Took the KLR 650, couple of video cameras and the Drone. POW camp info Loc 32°21'54.94"S 116° 9'49.99"E During 1943 and 1944, Italians from North Africa were shipped to Australia and sent to POW camps, Jarrahdale being one selected. The camp was originally set up for the army at the commencement of the Second World War, then converted to a POW camp, holding up to 200 prisoners. There remains remnant foundations of a pump house and washhouse/ablution block, remnants of a drainage system and a fireplace chimney of the former mess hall. Gleneagle Loc 32°17′17″S 116°11′31″E Gleneagle or Glen Eagle is a locality in Western Australia. The locality is south east of the state capital, Perth, close to Jarrahdale on the Albany Highway It now remains as a rest stop for drivers. The townsite functioned as a settlement for forest workers and their families. It was a locality that was seriously affected by the 1961 Jarrahdale fires. The settlement operated its own school. Remnants of the townsite including roads and central water tower remain, but the houses have been removed by the government agency upon closure. The name is also of a significant mining company in Western Australia but the locality and company have no direct correlation.

Tour Scotland wee video of old photographs of Cardenden, a former mining town located on the south bank of the River Ore in the parish of Auchterderran, Fife. Cardenden was named in 1848 by the Edinburgh and Northern Railway for its new railway station. Areas of Cardenden include Auchterderran, Bowhill, Dundonald, the Jamphlars, New Carden and Woodend. It is reported that last duel on Scottish soil took place in a field at Cardenbarns to the south of Cardenden. On 2 August 1826, a Kirkcaldy merchant named David Landale fought a duel with George Morgan, a Kirkcaldy banker and retired Lieutenant from the 77th Regiment of Foot. Morgan was killed by wounds received from a pistol ball. Landale was tried and subsequently cleared of his murder at the Sheriff Court in Perth, Perthshire. Of interest to folks with ancestry, genealogy or Scottish Family Roots in Scotland who may wish to visit one day

This town was really cool to visit and one of our favourite towns in Australia that we've visited so far! Although the town isn't completely abandoned (there is still a couple of residents), as you drive around you really get the feeling of it being a ghost town. There are no government services provided anymore and the residents are responsible for all their own power and water. There is signage up every where warning you of the presence of deadly asbestos, which adds to the creepy feeling of the place! : Please subscribe for more great outback videos : © OZOUTBACK All rights reserved 2017.
