To this end (and far beyond!) the meta-data of commits to theLinux kernel are analyzed. There are several intended outputs we hope to getout of this analysis, some examples are: - Competence of persons involved (IEC 61508-1, 6.2.13/6.2.14) - Dependencies amongst developers (Independence of persons doing code reviews) - Identify patches that did not get enough review (based on patch complexity, experience of author, reviews, etc.) - Automatic notification of patches in our configuration - Bug analysis (based on Fixes: tag) - Subsystem dependencies and conflicts The talk covers everything from gathering the data, to distributing it toevery one in the project while keeping it the data up-to-date and of courseour first analysis results. Adopting an Agile Approach to Project Management - Overview of Factors to Consider

01:29
Full Course: https://www.udemy.com/adopting-an-agile-approach-to-project-management/?couponCode=PROMONOW Agile Adoption Benefits Using an agile methodology may have a tremendous impact on a project. It can shorten development cycles, improve quality and efficiency, lower costs, and result in better customer satisfaction. Not Appropriate to all Projects However, an agile approach isn't suitable in all cases. Traditional project management processes may be more appropriate for certain types of projects. Other projects may benefit from using a hybrid approach, combining aspects of both traditional and agile methodologies. Factors Determining Suitability So before implementing an agile approach, you need to determine whether this is suitable for your organization and project. This will depend on a number of factors. Among these are project type, organizational structure and culture, the nature of your organization's existing project management processes, and project team characteristics. It's also important to consider the industry in which your organization operates and the willingness of the customer to participate in the development process. Next In the next video you are going to learn about every factor determining suitability for Agile implementation. And you are going to start with the project type. eVidence - Document Software Behavior and Generate Test Cases

02:54
This video is a short demonstration of eVidence in action. either you're working agile or on waterfall projects, we're often experiencing pain with documentation and test case maintenance. It's frequent to experience reading a specification which isn't in synch with the application code base nor related test campaign. eVidence is a tentative to mitigate this pain. It can help identifying any missing functionality earlier in your application lifecycle. It also makes it straight forward to reuse created scenarii to generate up-to-date test campaigns. eVidence enforces re-use over re-work. It centralizes your application behavior to help you take the most out of it. You can register at: http://evidence-project.com to be notified of its launch ! May you have any question, feel free to address it at [email protected] Thank you for your time and stay tuned.

Student Blogs for Documenting the Software Development Process

14:59
The practice focus is based on Kerawalla et al's framework for blogging in higher education. Documentation levels submitted by students for programming courseworks have steadily deteriorated in both quality and quantity. Attempting to redress the balance it was decided to enlist the help of the common blog. Blogs were introduced into two Game Programming modules, at years 2 and 4 (the final year of an Honours programme) as 10 percent of the students overall mark. Students were expected to make regular blog posts building a reflective log, tracing the development of their software and encouraging active learning. The Lecturer would monitor and give feedback on posts made. This work has been running for three years and initial results indicate positive student engagement, especially with Y2 students; although not all students have engaged. There is an indication that a relationship exists between the number of posts and mark achieved. To ensure maximum student engagement a revaluation of the integration of blogs is required in order to ensure student pedagogical needs are met and the quality and quantity of student documentation improves. A fuller data analysis will be undertaken to identify any correlation between blog posts, marks and engagement. The Global Supply of Critical Materials: Assessing and Tracking Critical Mineral Commodities

17:38
No country in the world produces all of the mineral resources necessary for modern society. International trade plays a critical role in providing these raw materials, forming a global network of production, export, import, and use. This network must continuously adapt to national and international developments in science, technology, politics, and economics. As a result, information on the global flow of raw materials plays a fundamental role in improving national and international resilience to potential supply disruptions and market changes. This is the first presentation from the AGI Critical Issues webinar, "Tracking the Global Supply of Critical Materials". This webinar focuses on U.S. and European Union (EU) efforts to gather information and develop tools that can be used to ensure a secure national and global supply of mineral resources; identify and quantify vulnerabilities in this supply; and stimulate national and international co-operation, education and outreach, and innovation in the development, recycling, and substitution of key mineral resources. Our speakers include: Nedal Nassar, Chief, Materials Flow Analysis Section, National Minerals Information Center, U.S. Geological Survey Vitor Correia, President, European Federation of Geologists, and co-ordinator of the EU’s INTRAW project This webinar is co-sponsored by the American Geophysical Union, American Institute of Professional Geologists, Australian Institute of Geoscientists, European Federation of Geologists, Geological Society of Africa, Geological Society of London, Geoscience Information Society, Mineralogical Society of America, and Society of Economic Geologists, with media partnership from the U.S. Geological Survey. If We’re Agile Why Do We Need Managers? Ron Lichty, 20141015

01:02:52
Ron Lichty,Principal of Ron Lichty Consulting, Inc. A common misconception about agile is that managers are unnecessary. After all, agile is based on self-organizing teams. If the teams organize themselves, what do managers do? Unfortunately, most scrum training plays into that. Think about it: how many trainers or coaches have you seen sketch the structure of a scrum team with a drawing that includes a manager? While there's always a scrum master and a product owner, the core team and maybe some stakeholders, have you ever seen a manager in that drawing? This misconception can be a problem all around: A frequently cited barrier to agile adoption is managers who don't know what to do when their teams become self-managing. When they're not included in training, how would they (or anyone else, for that matter) know how to characterize their role. At the same time, organizations often lay down expectations of managers, some compatible with agile, some not. Agile has clearly shifted the old roles and responsibilities. Managers bent on command-and-control are clearly a barrier to agile adoption. But managers who take a hands-off approach or are treading water in a sea of ambiguity will almost certainly stymie adoption, as well. Ron Lichty believes (and so do a lot of the early agile thought leaders) that managers have critical roles to play in enabling success, both of transitions to agile and of agile itself. This session is about those roles. Speaker Bio Ron Lichty has been alternating between consulting with and managing software development and product organizations for 25 years, the last 15 of those in the era of Agile, almost all of those spent untangling the knots in software development and transforming chaos to clarity. Originally a programmer, he earned several patents and wrote two popular programming books before being hired into his first management role by Apple Computer, which nurtured his managerial growth in both development and product management roles. Principal and owner of Ron Lichty Consulting, Inc. (http://www.RonLichty.com), he has trained teams in Scrum, transitioned teams from waterfall and iterative methodologies to agile, and coached teams already using agile to make their software development "hum". In his continued search for effective best practices, Ron co-authored the 2013 Study of Product Team Performance. Ron's most recent book is Managing the Unmanageable: Rules, Tools, and Insights for Managing Software People and Teams - http://www.ManagingTheUnmanageable.net - co-authored with Pixar and Gracenote CTO Mickey W. Mantle. Published by Addison Wesley, it has been compared by reviewers to software development classics, The Mythical Man-Month and Peopleware. Ron has repeatedly been brought in as an acting CTO and interim vice president of engineering to solve development team challenges. During Ron's first three years at Charles Schwab, he led software development of the first investor tools on Schwab.com, playing a role in transforming the bricks-and-mortar discount brokerage into a premier name in online financial services. He was promoted to Schwab vice president while leading his CIO’s three-year technology initiative to migrate software development from any-language-goes to a single, cost-effective platform company-wide and nurturing Schwab's nascent efforts to leverage early Agile approaches. He has led products and development across a wide range of domains for companies of all sizes, from startups to the Fortune 500, including Fujitsu, Razorfish, Stanford, and Apple. Ron has been an adviser to a half-dozen start-ups. He co-chairs SVForum’s Engineering Leadership SIG; founded its Software Architecture SIG; chaired its Emerging Technology SIG and the East Bay Innovation Group’s Software Management Best Practices SIG; and was a member of the board of SVForum, Silicon Valley’s largest and oldest developer organization. http://www.sfbayacm.org/event/if-we%E2%80%99re-agile-why-do-we-need-managers http://www.meetup.com/SF-Bay-ACM/events/202637842/ http://www.slideshare.net/RonLichty/if-we-are-agile-why-do-we-need-managers-code-camp-1014

Analytics Development Life Cycle: Pangea is Panacea

27:21
In this video from the Stanford HPC Conference, Satya Sai Prakash Kanakadandi from HCL America presents: Analytics Development Life Cycle: Pangea is Panacea. "Data ingestion to business insights is a journey across several transformation stages. Business objective definition, data ingestion, data preparation, model selection, building deploying and monitoring constitute key phases of analytics development life cycle (ADLC). It is common knowledge that many organizations adopt siloed approach towards taming (big) data, applying machine learning/deep learning, and use ML/DL models as large deployments. In this short talk we shall present an analytics workbench perspective (Pangea) that brings entire ADLC under single umbrella thus enabling collaboration, shrinking overall cycle time, easing model deployment efforts and allowing model monitoring. Actionable insights and visualizations are facilitated though service integration interfaces." Keynote: The Future has Arrived - Agile Singapore Conference 2016

42:40
Speaker: Mary Poppendieck (@mpoppendieck), Poppendieck.LLC 2020 used to be far in the future. Today it’s four years away. We no longer need to guess what breakthroughs await us in that magic year, the future is hiding in plain sight. The Cloud, Big Data, the Internet of Things, Virtual Reality. The question is not what the technologies of 2020 will be – that is rapidly coming into focus. The real question is: What’s important, what isn’t, and why? Should you focus on Continuous Delivery? DevOps? How do you get from where you are now to where you need to be? How do you scale? How do you keep your systems reliable and secure? This talk will discuss how software engineering is changed by the emerging digital technologies. About the speaker Mary Poppendieck started her career as a process control programmer, moved on to manage the IT department of a manufacturing plant, and then ended up in product development, where she was both a product champion and department manager. Mary considered retirement 1998, but instead found herself managing a government software project where she first encountered the word "waterfall." When Mary compared her experience in successful software and product development to the prevailing opinions about how to manage software projects, she decided the time had come for a new paradigm. She wrote the award-winning book Lean Software Development: An Agile Toolkit in 2003 to explain how the lean principles from manufacturing offer a better approach to software development. Over the past several years, Mary has found retirement elusive as she lectures and teaches classes with her husband Tom. Based on their on-going learning, they wrote a second book,Implementing Lean Software Development: From Concept to Cash in 2006, a third, Leading Lean Software Development: Results are Not the Point in 2009, and a fourth book, The Lean Mindset: Ask the Right Questions in 2013. A popular writer and speaker, Mary continues to bring fresh perspectives to the world of software development. Roger L. Martin: "Creating Great Choices: A Leader's Guide to Integrative [...]" | Talks at Google

55:24
Move Beyond Trade-Off Thinking. When it comes to our hardest choices, it can seem as though making trade-offs is inevitable. But what about those crucial times when accepting the obvious trade-off just isn't good enough? What do we do when the choices in front of us don't get us what we need? In those cases, rather than choosing the least worst option, we can use the models in front of us to create a new and superior answer. This is integrative thinking. First introduced by world-renowned strategic thinker Roger Martin in "The Opposable Mind," integrative thinking is an approach to problem solving that uses opposing ideas as the basis for innovation. Now, in "Creating Great Choices," Martin and his longtime thinking partner Jennifer Riel vividly illustrate how integrative thinking works, and how to do it. The book includes fresh stories of successful integrative thinkers that will demystify the process of creative problem solving, as well as practical tools and exercises to help readers engage with the ideas. And it lays out the authors' four-step methodology for creating great choices, which can be applied in virtually any context. The result is a replicable, thoughtful approach to finding a "third and better way" to make important choices in the face of unacceptable trade‐offs. Insightful and instructive, "Creating Great Choices" blends storytelling, theory, and hands-on advice to help any leader or manager facing a tough choice. What is CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING? What does CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING mean?

What is CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING? What does CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING mean? CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING meaning - CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING definition - CRYPTO CLOUD COMPUTING explanation. Source: Wikipedia.org article, adapted under https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-sa/3.0/ license. SUBSCRIBE to our Google Earth flights channel - https://www.youtube.com/channel/UC6UuCPh7GrXznZi0Hz2YQnQ Cloud computing is a combination of IaaS, PaaS, SaaS. To construct a secure cloud computing system, security at infrastructure, service platforms and application software levels have to be studied for a secure cloud computing system. Information encryption is one of effective means to achieve cloud computing information security. Traditionally, information encryption focuses on specified stages and operations, such as data encryption. For cloud computing, a system level design has to be implemented. Crypto cloud computing is a new secure cloud computing architecture. It can provide protection of information security at the system level, and allows users access to shared services conveniently and accurately. Crypto cloud computing protects individual’s connections with the outside world. It can protect the personal privacy without any delay of information exchange. Crypto cloud computing is based on the Quantum Direct Key system. Quantum Direct Key (QDK) is a set of advanced asymmetric offline key mechanism. In this mechanism, all entities get public and private key pair according to their ID. Each entity only holds its own private key, but has a public key generator to generate any public key. In this system, an entity can produce the public key of any other entities offline, no any third-party agency (such as CA) is necessary. Crypto cloud computing based on QDK can avoid network traffic congestion, and other drawbacks using current encryption system. In the crypto cloud computing system, each entity encrypts data using his/her own private key. All elements in the system such as cloud computing infrastructure units, platform, virtualization tools and all involved entities have their own keys. While fulfilling their own functions of information exchange and processing, all these elements will use the public key and private key to perform authentication first. What’s more, events occur in the cloud computing are also assigned a unique key. In this way, crypto cloud system guarantees the security and credibility of information exchange. Current cloud computing structure is developed for data and computing sharing. Security is not priority of system. On the contrary, encryption and security are inherently integrated in the crypto cloud computing based on the QDK. QDK authorized function units are bricks of crypto cloud computing. Besides primary function of data en/decryption, crypto cloud computing also provides many security related functions. For example, all channels sign transmit data using with their own keys, and the receiving terminals can avoid hijacking by verifying signature. What’s more, the exact position of security leakage can be identified determined by analyzing digital signatures of forged data. Based on such capabilities, crypto-related functions can be provided as services in cloud, which is named as β€˜Crypto as a service (CAAS)’. Crypto cloud computing is not only the advances in information technology, but also innovation of logical relationship. In crypto cloud computing system, non-system data is not allowed to store and transmit. Private Key and offline public key, play a role of identification and certification in the process of information exchange. In this way, the cloud establishes a relationship of trust with a customer. Data identification depends on the logical relationship of mutual trust or need, and the logical relationship depends on the cloud customer. Crypto cloud computing is a new framework for cyber resource sharing. It protects data security and privacy. Well, in cloud environment, crypto cloud computing guarantees the information security and integrity during whole procedure. Security management of cloud computing can also be performed by authorizing the signatures of every element involved. What’s more, a user can retrieve all related resources using his QDK key. There is no personal privacy under the current cloud framework, as pointed out by Mark Zuckerberg, 'the Age of Privacy Is Over '.However, with the development of crypto cloud computing, we can resolve the conflict between services data sharing and privacy security. It opens up new prospects for the development of information sharing technology.

Understanding variability and temporal trends in biosphere-atmosphere CO2 exchange

56:06
Process-based models of atmosphere-biosphere interactions, along with empirical data mining techniques, are the primary tools used for scaling disparate observations through space and time. In the past few decades they have been developed in tandem with our understanding of ecological theory, resulting in models of various levels of complexity and detail. Model intercomparisons, however, show a large range in model performance, with no clear consensus as to whether model structural error (process mis-representation) or mis-parameterization is to blame. One potential reason for this lies in difficulties in using data sources at different scales to adequately test model performance and the common reliance on uni-variate model validations. Another is the lack of quantification of the uncertainty associated with model projections. In order to advance our ability to make policy-actionable projections of the future evolution of the earth system, we need to address these issues. In this talk I will assess our ability to model land-atmosphere CO2 exchange at different spatial and temporal scales, both in the present climate and under future climate change. The analysis makes heavy use of model-data fusion techniques, which constitute a powerful framework by which to combine models with various data streams. Model benchmarking tools, such as empirical data mining techniques, also provide a strong alternative model evaluation. To illustrate the potential benefits of such an approach, we assess the performance of 17 process-based models of atmosphere-biosphere interactions, and two data mining tools, across 11 long-term eddy covariance forest sites. The results highlight details of model performance often overlooked by conventional model-data comparisons, and quantify the degree of coupling of terrestrial carbon sequestration to climate anomalies at multiple sites and time scales.

Paul Marrington: Unifying the Software Development Lifecycle Using Open Source and DSLs

46:28
Open source technologies are now up to the challenge of unifying the software development lifecycle. In this talk I will demonstate how interactive documentation and domain specific languages allow the use of open source systems to support all teams in a project - from client to support. I will be introducing usdlc.net - an open source interactive documentation system that supports this concept for small to medium teams. First half is about how an interactive documentation can help all groups involved in a software development project. The second half is a hands-on demonstration of designing and implementing a real-world sub-system using this approach. It uses the open source uSDLC framework with Java and Groovy on the jvm. This is the debut for uSDLC. uSDLC.net will be live for the conference. usdlc/usdlc is available on github now. Paul Marrington is a software designer with over 30 years experience in diverse fields including mining, manufacturing, defence, tolling and government. Peter has taken "time off" to work as a software architect and software manager implementing agile practices in hostile environments. His frustration with the lack of cohesiveness in the development lifecycle has led to a passion for improvement in this area. Check out http://2011.OSDC.com.au/UNIF for more information.
