Sorting data is an integral part of data analysis. You might want to put a list of names in alphabetical order or compile a list of product inventory levels from highest to lowest. Sorting data enables you to quickly visualize and understand your data better, organize and find the data that you want, and ultimately make more effective decisions. To help you locate the data that you want to analyze in a PivotTable or PivotChart more easily, you can sort text entries (from A to Z or Z to A), numbers (from smallest to largest or largest to smallest), and dates and times (from oldest to newest or newest to oldest). When sorting data in a PivotTable report, you should be aware that: Data such as text entries may have leading spaces that affect the sort results. For optimal sort results, you should remove any spaces before you sort the data. Unlike sorting data in a range of cells on a worksheet or in an Excel table, you cannot sort case-sensitive text entries. You cannot sort data by format, such as cell or font color, or by conditional formatting indicators, such as icon sets. watchistan, excel, pivot tables, using pivot tables in qlikview, practice using pivot tables, how to use pivot tables to analyze data, what does a pivot table do,chart from two pivot tables, pivot chart from multiple pivot tables, pivot chart from 2 pivot tables, pivot tables with multiple worksheets, pivot table chart templates, two pivot tables one chart, pivot chart from pivot table, pivot chart scatter plot, pivot chart line graph

(It's best to view this "Large" rather than the small default window") In this video we see an example of using dummy or bogus data. Often we get data sets that are hard to work with because it's got Employee IDs, Part Numbers, or other strings of characters that aren't easily comprehensible. I show how I often convert data like this into names of fish. As part of the process, we see a pivot table and a VLOOKUP. NOTE: my tutorials are still a bit crude. Hopefully they're improving. :-)

http://www.contextures.com/xlPivot07.html Visit this page to download the sample file, and for written instructions. In a pivot table, it is easy to group fields that contain dates or numbers. However, if you right-click on a text field's item, the Group command does not work. First, you have to manually select the text items that you want to group, and then use the Group command. After grouping, the group name can be changed, and you can add more items to the group. If you no longer need them, you can ungroup one or more of the groups.

Say that you want to report actuals from last year and budget from this year. Regular pivot tables can't do that. Starting in Excel 2010, OLAP pivot tables can do that. But, that doesn't help you if you have regular old Excel data instead of OLAP cubes. However...take your regular Excel data through PowerPivot and it turns into an OLAP Cube! Thus, Named Sets become an option. Chapter 12 makes me want to run every single data set through pivot table. I need to turn back to Chapter 3 to remind myself of why not to do that...

Data Analysis with Python for Excel User Part 2: Conditional Index and Pivot with Python and Pandas The previous part: https://youtu.be/CzuwQwI5zk8 In this tutorial we are going to learn how to conduct conditional Index and pivot in excel with python and pandas Python is a widely used high-level, general-purpose, interpreted, dynamic programming language. Its design philosophy emphasizes code readability, and its syntax allows programmers to express concepts in fewer lines of code than possible in languages such as C++ or Java. The language provides constructs intended to enable writing clear programs on both a small and large scale. Python supports multiple programming paradigms, including object-oriented, imperative and functional programming or procedural styles. It also supports modules and packages, which encourages program modularity and code reuse. The Python interpreter and the extensive standard library are available in source or binary form without charge for all major platforms, and can be freely distributed.
