Canine cryptorchid surgery

04:48
This is a true abdominal cryptorchid. This procedure utilizes a very small incision, smaller than a laprascopic cryptorchid surgery. Before surgery, make sure you are on the correct side by palpating the descended testicle and determining the side of origin for that one. The incision is made just perpendicular and lateral to the cranial portion of the penile sheath. Sharp dissection through the fascia and blunt through the muscle layers for almost no bleeding. Must be able to use a spay hook, just remember the developmental anatomy of the testicle and visualize where it came from and where it was going. It has to be in between. Email me for more details. How to treat post-op complications of neuter

03:49
Big breed dogs are more prone to post-operation complications after neuter. E-collar traumatising the neuter operation leading to stitch breakdown. This video shows the inflammation of the surgical area 10 days after surgery. The healing would be itchy as the stitches could be irritating to the dog. Stitch removal, anti-inflammatory and antibiotics resolve the problem.

How to remove the undescended testicle - neuter of dog

05:03
Veteirnary surgery. Anatomy is important in understanding where the undescended testicle travels during development. Location of the undescended testicle can be difficult if it is not palpable below the skin. It may be inside the inguinal canal (as in this case study) or inside the abdomen. Ultrasound scan is advised although in most cases, laparotomy will reveal the testicle next to the neck of the bladder. This can be hooked out. Only with 2 testicles removed, will Toa Payoh Vets issue a neuter certificate. Some vets remove only the descended testicle and issue the certificate. This will be professionally negligent. The undescended testicle may become cancerous later and the vet/ practice can be sued for negligence. .

THIS TECHNIQUE IS NOT RECOMMENDED FOR STUDENTS OR FOR PEOPLE WITH NO EXPERIENCE WITH SPAYING! This video will show my normal procedure for spaying a female cat. With this technique you use the hook and the pedicle tie technique, so you don't have to make a big incision and it this way it saves you a lot of time. In the next video I will show you a way that is easier for starters or people with less experience in spaying. ________________________________________________________________- Music by: REAL RIDE by Nicolai Heidlas Music https://soundcloud.com/nicolai-heidlas Creative Commons — Attribution 3.0 Unported— CC BY 3.0 http://creativecommons.org/licenses/b... Canine Cryptorchidism Explained by Doc Pawsitive

05:38
Doc Pawsitive takes a few moments to explain cryptorchidism in male dogs, also known as undescended testicle(s). The term cryptorchidism broken down simply means "crypto" or hidden with "orchid" or testicle. A cryptorchid dog has a hidden testicle, which is defined as a testicle that has not descended into the scrotum, the normal position for testes. This condition is more commonly seen in toy breed dogs such as Chihuahuas, Yorkshire Terriers, Maltese, Pomeranians and others. Cryptorchism is a heritable condition, meaning it can be passed down through generations and consequently cryptorchid dogs should never be bred. The majority of dogs should never be bred anyway, but the undescended testicle is prone to other problems in the long-term, including testicular cancer. In a normal male dog, the position of the scrotum below the body ensures the testicles are maintained at a lower temperature than normal canine body temperature. The lower scrotal temperature ensures the sperm viability for reproduction. Undescended testicles at higher than normal temperatures have a much higher incidence of testicular cancers or neoplasms. Studies show that over 50% of testicular Sertoli Cell tumors occur in cryptorchid dogs. The reason for this condition is simply a failure of the testicle to migrate to the normal position as puppies develop in-utero, or inside the mother. Embryologically the testes start out in nearly the same position as the ovaries in a female dog, however while the ovaries stay put, the testes migrate down through the abdomen headed for the scrotum. With cryptorchism, one or both of the testes fails to migrate the full path and reach the scrotum. Occassionally the testes may nearly reach the scrotum and can be felt in the groin area right next to the scrotum. Other times the testes remain intra-abdominal, or inside the abdomen. In the instances of intra-abdominal cryptorchids, the canine neuter surgery will be more expensive than a standard neuter because of the increase in surgical difficulty. An intra-abdominal cryptorchid neuter is actually more similar to a canine spay or ovariohysterectomy and consequently costs almost the same as having a female dog spayed.

ADULT CAT: single incision cat castrations (neuter) surgery technique

00:55
ADULT CAT NEUTER This is my soapbox topic - just like canine neuters, feline castrations should always be via a single skin incision over the median raphe - less bleeding (because of the less/nearly avascular raphe), less pain (not only because there is just one incision but because the raphe is also less innervated)...I never understood why we were taught to do 2 separate incisions!

Warning! - Graphic! - Dog Neuter Abdomen Stitches - One Undescended Testicle (Cryptorchidism)

00:45
Our 16 month old 65lb English Cream Golden Retriever finally got neutered this week and his other testicle never dropped in to his scrotum. So the vet had to make an incision on his stomach and go find the smaller undescended testicle (the condition is known as cryptorchidism). The recovery time is about 10-14 days. He is on pain pills and anti-inflammatory drugs for the next 6 days. The surgery was about twice as expensive due to the undescended testicle. We also had his hips x-rayed while he was under anesthesia and the vet said his hip joints have "good coverage and he should have very little chance of ever developing hip dysplasia.

Emergency Diaphragmatic Hernia Repair on a Dog

31:57
A dog in an animal shelter was spayed and crashed during recovery (breathing and heartbeat stopped). CPR brought the dog back to life and x-rays revealed a diaphragmatic hernia. This is a hole in the diaphragm (the muscular separation between the chest cavity where the lungs and heart are located and the abdomen cavity, where the stomach, intestines and most other internal organs are located. On the x-ray that dog's intestines were inside of the chest cavity with the heart and lungs, causing her to have difficulty breathing. She was taken into surgery in an emergency to repair the hernia. This was the first time that the shelter had ever attempted a diaphragmatic hernia repair on a patient. The surgery was successful and the dog is doing well.

Female Cat Desexing Surgery - Part 3

04:30
One of the most routine surgeries a veterinarian performs is desexing. This is a 6 month old cat that was anesthetized and surgically prepared. I then sorted my surgery instruments and proceeded with spaying her. In this part, I first make my incision distal to her umbilicus, then use a spay hook to pull out one of her uterine horns. I then place two clamps above her ovary and ligate her ovarian vessels. I then followed the horn down to the uterine bifurcation up to the other uterine horn. I proceeded with ligating the ovarian stump and then transecting the ovary from its attachment. Then I clamped and ligated the uterine stump and removed the entire uterus. Closure of the surgical wound consisted of a three layer process: the linea alba (deepest), subcutaneous layer and skin.

Cryptorchidism Dog Neuter Scar Two Weeks Since Surgery - English Cream Golden Retriever

00:26
Our 16 month old English Cream Golden Retriever dog had one undescended testicle (cryptorchidism) so his neuter surgery was a bit more involved. He just had his stitches out after two weeks of wearing the cone of shame (e-collar) and is now doing great. We took him to a Petsmart to pick out a new toy and then to the dog park for the first time in a few weeks. We can finally stop worrying about other male dogs being aggressive towards him like when he wasn't neutered.
