From the worlds largest gold mine found on the top of a mountain to the largest diamond mine in the world here are the most massive mines in the world! Subscribe to American EYE! 5.. Asbestos Mine, Canada Also known as the Jeffrey Mine, it’s located in Asbestos, Quebec and it was in operation until 2012. It’s a whopping 2 kilometers wide and 370 meters deep! Check out this thing on google maps and you can tell how completely massive this thing is! It’s the by far the largest asbestos mine in the world. For a long period of time, people would use this mineral to put into their walls and keep their homes from catching on fire! But recently there’s been a link with asbestos and a disease called mesothelioma, which is a lung condition. This is a toxic substance that people should avoid, so obviously this large mine went out of business. The lake at the bottom might look like an inviting blue, but you can bet your bottom dollar, it’s highly toxic! The small town that grew with the thriving asbestos industry feels like they’ve kind of lost their identity once the mine was forced to close, but people do still live there. 4. Mcarthur River Uranium Mine In case you were wondering which mine produces the most uranium in the world, that would be of course the Mcarthur River uranium mine in Saskatchewan Canada. This huge deposit was found in 1988 and finally a mining operation took place in 1997, when it began producing what’s known as Yellowcake. It’s not the kind of yellow cake you’d eat with your grandparents. This stuff has a horrific odor and basically what it is, is concentrated uranium powder which can then be used for powering nuclear reactors. We imagine this powdery substance is quite difficult to get ahold of. There aren’t a ton of photos of this place but, it does produce about 13 percent of the global uranium production across the globe. 3. Diavik Diamond Mine In case you thought it was Africa who had all the massive diamond mines, think again! The Diavik Diamond mine, found in the the northwest territories of Canada is one of the largest producers of diamonds in the Northern hemisphere and this place is pretty crazy! They annually produce 7 million carats of diamonds each year and you better believe it’s not easy to get here. The Diavik mine is found north of the arctic circle and it’s definitely cold! This photo here shows the subarctic landscapes that surround the diamond mine. You thought getting to work in the morning was tough for you? Imagine trying to get to work here! Just recently in 2015, this diamond produced what was known as the Diavik Foxfire 187.7 which is one of the largest rough gem quality diamonds ever produced. 2. Siberian Diamond Mine Also known as the Mirny Mine, The USSR began searching for ways to make to make themselves a more economical stable and independent union. In 1955 the Soviets discovered large diamond deposits at this site in the far away lands of Siberia and many people got to work very quickly in order to help bring wealth to the union. After about 20 years of operations, they finally decided that At one point this mine produced 10 million carats of diamonds a year and reaches a max depth of 524 meters or around 1700 feet making it the 2nd largest excavated hole in the world. The mine is so deep, airspace is closed over the hole due to helicopter crashes caused from the downward flow of air. The construction of this in the frigid conditions of Siberia must have been grueling and downright cruel. Sources state that the machinery used at this mine had to be covered at night or it would freeze Are the diamonds worth freezing to death?! It’s unoperational today but Some claim that there’s still a bunch of diamonds in this mine and the whole thing could be worth about 12 Billion dollars. It’s possible that controlling this diamond is mine is crucial to controlling the price of diamonds across the world. Bingham Copper Mine The bingham copper mine located near Salt Lake City Utah is home to the biggest pit in the world and it’s been in operation since 1903. It’s about 2.5 miles wide and if it were a stadium, it would be able to fit an estimated 9.5 million people. It keeps getting bigger and bigger too! Diligent workers can move about 250,000 tons of rock each day and it’s even become a tourist attraction in recent years before a massive landslide took place. Some claim that this was the biggest non volcanic landslide to take place in North American modern history. This photo we see here shows you the aftermath of this massive landslide and Bingham Copper mine and it makes you wonder how safe some of the conditions at these mines truly are. The landslides were so massive, that they actually triggered a few small earthquakes! Experts estimated that 165 tons of earth slide down from the top of the mine all the way to the bottom.

Underground miners in outback Western Australia have unearthed rare gold specimens which geologists are calling a "once-in-a-lifetime discovery". Workers at the Beta Hunt mine near the small town of Kambalda, 630 kilometres east of Perth, have brought more than $15 million worth of gold specimens to the surface in just four days. The gold-encrusted rocks were found about 500 metres below the surface in an area just three metres wide and three metres high. At PDAC, Resource Investing News had the chance to speak with executives from a variety of companies, with one highlight from the gold space being Charles Hennessey, mine general manager at Detour Gold (TSX:DGC). The company's Detour Lake mine, located in Northern Ontario, is the second-largest gold-producing mine in Canada, and the largest in the country in terms of reserves. However, as Hennessey explained, Detour is looking to make it Canada's largest gold-producing mine. "The steps we're taking — we're continuing through the ramp up ... last year we were just below 18 million tonnes processed, but we have a design of 20 million tonnes, and this year we're pushing to be just underneath that," he said. And while Detour Lake's size sets the company apart from its peers for obvious reasons, Hennessey was able to expand on what else makes Detour unique. "We're actually quite a large mining company ... for a junior. We are the largest gold mine that's not controlled by a senior producer in the world," he explained. In closing Hennessey discussed the equipment used at the mine, as well as how mining and processing there works. Watch the video below for more of what he said.

http://goldstocktrades.com/blog Carlisle Gold (CGJ.TO or CGJCF) has undergone a major transformation and restructuring in the last few months that has gone largely unnoticed by the market. A few astute investors realize that now may be a propitious time for this junior gold miner who has made some major steps by signing a strategic partnership with NYSE listed producer Aurico Gold (AUQ) and undergoing a 6.5/1 share consolidation. Investors can purchase Carlisle now at a more than 50% discount to what Aurico paid in November of 2014. Aurico has one of the best technical teams in the business with large scale production in Canada. They like the high grade and open pit mining scenario at Lynn Lake and believe this could be a highly profitable mine especially as it is located in mining friendly Manitoba which boasts extremely lower electricity costs. The optimized PEA published in February 2014 showed a Post Tax NPV of $257 million using an $1100 gold price. Carlisle is grossly undervalued compared to the recent PP that was done at $.52. One could buy the shares now half off. Carlisle has cash. That 19.9% equity financing with Aurico put $5.6 million in the bank. In addition they sold a 25% interest in the project to Aurico for an additional $5 million. Aurico must spend $20 million over 3 years to advance the project to feasibility. In 2015, Aurico is planning to spend $11 million on feasibility and exploration. Carlisle is expected to put up $2 million for a total of $13 million to be spent on this project. With only 55 million shares outstanding and a market cap below $13 million upside on drilling this year could benefit Carlisle shareholders acquiring a position at these deeply discounted levels. Management has a track record of success. Carlisle CEO Abraham Drost sold his last company Premier Royalty to Sandstorm Gold. I would not be surprised to see Carlisle as a takeout target. Canadian gold mining M&A is red hot. Look at the valuations received by Probe, Rainy River and Premier for high grade open pit gold mines in Canada. Carlisle may be superior as the deposit is located in Manitoba, one of the top jurisdictions named by the Fraser Institute. Recent news shows that the local First Nations are highly supportive. I had the pleasure of meeting the local Chief and the Carlisle/Aurico management team for the first time at PDAC in Toronto. I look forward to hearing news soon that Aurico has started their 2015 drilling campaign on the property. Increased news flow should drive attention to this exciting story. Disclosure: I am a shareholder and the company is a website sponsor.

Contribute to the Project: http://igeo.tv/contribuye-al-proyecto/ The Bingham Canyon Mine, also known as the Kennecott Copper Mine, is an open-pit mining operation extracting a large porphyry copper deposit southwest of Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, in the Oquirrh Mountains. The mine is owned by Rio Tinto Group, an international mining and exploration company headquartered in the United Kingdom. The copper operations at Bingham Canyon Mine are managed through Kennecott Utah Copper Corporation which operates the mine, a concentrator plant, a smelter, and a refinery. The mine has been in production since 1906, and has resulted in the creation of a pit over 0.6 miles (0.97 km) deep, 2.5 miles (4 km) wide, and covering 1,900 acres (770 ha). It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 1966 under the name Bingham Canyon Open Pit Copper Mine. The mine experienced a massive landslide in April of 2013 and a smaller slide in September of 2013. Udachnaya was discovered on June 15, 1955, just two days after the discovery of the diamond pipe Mir by Soviet geologist Vladimir Shchukin and his team. It is more than 600 metres (1,970 ft) deep, making it the third deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine and Chuquicamata). The nearby settlement of Udachny is named for the deposit. As of 2010, Udachnaya pipe is controlled by Russian diamond company Alrosa, which planned to halt open-pit mining in favor of underground mining in 2010. The mine has estimated reserves of 225.8 million carats of diamonds and an annual production capacity of 10.4 million carats Chuquicamata, or "Chuqui" as it is more familiarly known, is by excavated volume the biggest open pit copper mine in the world, located in the north of Chile, just outside of Calama, 215 km northeast of Antofagasta and 1,240 km north of the capital, Santiago. The mine is owned and operated by Codelco, a Chilean state enterprise, since the Chilean nationalization of copper in the late 1960s and early 1970s. Its depth of 850 metres (2,790 ft) makes it the second deepest open-pit mine in the world (after Bingham Canyon Mine in Utah, USA). The Diavik Diamond Mine is a diamond mine in the North Slave Region of the Northwest Territories, Canada, about 300 kilometres (190 mi) north of Yellowknife. It has become an important part of the regional economy, employing 700, grossing C$100 million in sales, and producing approximately 7.5 million carats (1,500 kg (3,300 lb)) of diamonds annually. The area was surveyed in 1992 and construction began in 2001, with production commencing in January 2003. It is connected by an ice road and Diavik Airport with a 5,235 ft (1,596 m) gravel runway regularly accommodating Boeing 737 jet aircraft. The Grasberg Mine is the largest gold mine and the third largest copper mine in the world. It is located in the province of Papua in Indonesia near Puncak Jaya, the highest mountain in Papua, and it has 19,500 employees. It is majority owned through a subsidiary by Freeport-McMoRan, which owns 90.64% of PT Freeport Indonesia, the principal operating subsidiary in Indonesia, including 9.36% owned through its wholly owned subsidiary, PT Indocopper Investama. The Government of Indonesia owns the remaining 9.36% of PT Freeport Indonesia. FCX operates under an agreement with the Government of Indonesia, which allows Freeport to conduct exploration, mining and production activities in a 24,700-acre area (Block A). It also conducts exploration activities in an approximate 500,000-acre area (Block B). All of Freeport's proven and probable mineral reserves and current mining operations are located in Block A. The 2006 production was 610,800 tonnes of copper; 58,474,392 grams of gold; and 174,458,971 grams of silver. Thousands of Romanians protest the environmental and cultural impact of mining Europe's largest gold mine See more videos: http://therealnews.com

Thousands of people blocked a major road in downtown Bucharest on Sunday to protest plans to build what would be Europe's biggest gold mine. Demonstrators marched past the government headquarters waving banners, one reading "Romania, wake up!" Protests also took place in other cities, including the city of Cluj, where thousands called for the 2,000 year-old site where the open-cast mine will be located to be listed as a UNESCO heritage site. Canada's Gabriel Resources has been trying to gain permits to go ahead with the planned mine in northwest Romania's town of Rosia Montana for 14 years. The site has been mined for precious metals since at least Roman times, though work there stopped a few years ago. The Canadian company's approach would be far more efficient and involve razing four mountains. It is expected to fully extricate all the gold and silver in a couple of decades. The mine is believed to contain 314 tons of gold and 1,500 tons of silver. Protests against the plans began after the government sent a law to parliament on 27 August calling on lawmakers to give their support to the controversial project. A vote is expected in the coming weeks. "This country isn't no man's land. The people are sovereign. We alone decide what to do with it, not others. It is our country," said Alex Moise, who joined Sunday's demonstration in Bucharest. "No one asked us, no one consulted with us if we want or not this project. Some do what they want with this country, taking decisions on our accounts and we must go out in the street to show them we're not asleep and that we are here." Protesters gathered in the square in front of the government headquarters holding red and green sheets of paper - representing the leaf symbol that has become the logo of the anti-mine campaign. Opponents of the mine criticise plans to use cyanide in the extraction process, while others say Romania would earn too little from the project. It is the seventh Sunday protesters have taken to the streets of Bucharest. "I'm here as I want to tell politicians they need to reject the law regarding this mining project as we do not agree with it. We also want the mining project at Rosia Montana to stop," said protester Mirela Sauca. Supporters argue that the project would create jobs for unemployed miners and provide vital foreign investment to a deprived area. The Canadian company has pledged to protect the environment and historical monuments in Rosia Montana. MINING JOBS TV Episode 3: Unskillled & Entry Level Mining Jobs Brought to you by www.miningresumes.com - Kick-start your mining career today and email us at [email protected] or call Mining Resumes on 1300 737 863 Welcome to Episode 3 of Mining Jobs TV. Hi my name is Matt and I will be speaking to you today about unskilled and entry level jobs in the Australian mining industry. Mining Jobs TV is a FREE online TV channel presenting regular episodes where we will discuss mining jobs and tips that will help you to secure a job in the industry. You may have probably heard the stories about a friend of a friend who is earning over $100,000 a year on a mine somewhere in Western Australia or Queensland and wondered how you could get a mining job too. Entry level or unskilled jobs, like trade assistants or plant operators are hard to get now as every man and his dog are applying for them. The best way to get these jobs would be to move out to the little mining towns and live there and register with all the labour hire companies, there are hundreds of them. Trades people like fitters, welders, boilermakers and electricians still have a fairly good chance of picking up work on mining sites. If you don't have a trade, doing a rigging or scaffolding course would give you a good chance at getting a job, the courses are only about 4 weeks long, but they are fairly expensive. Other unskilled or basic jobs available include cleaners, laundry workers and kitchen hands which is not difficult if you have hospitality training and experience. Talking to people who are currently working on mining sites can be a big help, especially if you have no previous experience or qualifications. It would be even better if you could get in contact with expats from your own country who are working on mining sites. They can let you know who to call and what you need to do. If you are inexperienced and unqualified you need to be fit and ready for physical labour. The work will be very repetitive and routine based with long 12 hour days, so you really need to be mentally prepared, as well as physically. Some mines will have a very high turnover of workers. This is because many people go to work on the mines not knowing what to expect. Because there can be such a high turnover, you may not start earning big money straight away, although your wages won't be small either. Once you've proved yourself to be a reliable worker, your wages should increase. Most mining companies will run police checks, as well as drug and alcohol tests. Even though there are wet mess areas on-site where workers can unwind and drink alcohol, they do have to drink in moderation and be fit-for-work before their shift starts Shutdowns are exactly what the name suggests. Every now and then mining sites need to shut down for upgrades, maintenance or repairs and they usually hire people temporarily to work during shut downs. A lot of the work is unskilled and doesn't last very long, so it's great for backpackers who want to keep on travelling and don't want to make a full-time commitment. It's also a great way to get your foot in the door and gain valuable on-site experience. To do certain mining jobs you will need to get licences and training, or 'tickets' as they are more commonly known. There are lots of different types of tickets depending on what type of work you're going to do. Some tickets can be very expensive and mines in different states require different tickets, so you really need to do your research before you start spending money on courses. Don't think that just because you're female that the mining companies and recruiters won't consider you. The mining industry in Australia is becoming increasingly gender neutral. It's not just cooking and cleaning jobs either on offer for women either; more and more women are working on Australian mining sites, and in some cases, companies even prefer women for certain jobs. For example, a popular job for women on mining sites is driving a dump truck because research has shown that women are easier on the multi-million dollar equipment yet still get the job done. It's most important to ensure you have the resume professionally worded and designed to stand out from your competitors. We highly recommended Mining Resumes to prepare your resume as they are the industry leaders in resume preparation for clients seeking jobs in the mining and oil & gas industry. They can be contacted via phone on 1300 RESUME or have a look at their website miningresumes.com with package details and samples browse that demonstrate their quality and experience. Democracynow.org - After years of rumors that mining companies were exploring in Haiti, Canadian and U.S. corporations now confirm they have permits to mine gold in more than 1,000 square-miles in northern Haiti. Haiti's new prime minister says the estimated $20 billion worth of minerals in Haiti's hills could help liberate it from dependency on foreign aid, and rebuild from the devastating 2010 earthquake. But many worry the mines will be a boom for foreign investors and a bust for local communities. We speak to Jane Regan, lead author of "Gold Rush in Haiti: Who Will Get Rich?" The report by Haiti Grassroots Watch was published Wednesday in The Guardian and Haïti Liberté. "You have a perfect storm brewing where you have giant pit mines in the north in a country that is already environmentally devastated and giant pit mines being run by Canadian and American companies," Regan says. "Most of the money and gold dug up will go straight north." subscribe my channel and support and get more videos Canada’s Barrick Gold is swallowing African operator Randgold Resources in a takeover worth roughly US$6-billion that will ensure In a release, Mr. Thornton said that the merger comes with no premiums because “we strongly believe in the opportunity to add significant value for our shareholders from the disciplined management of our combined asset base and a focus on truly profitable growth.” Mark Bristow, the well-regarded CEO of Randgold is to become the CEO of the enlarged company, which will retain the Barrick name. Mr. Thornton, a former president of Goldman Sachs, will remain as executive chairman. Graham Shuttleworth, Randgold’s current chief financial officer, takes the CFO role at the combined company with Barrick’s current CFO Catherine Raw becoming chief operating officer North America. “The combination of Barrick and Randgold will create a new champion for value creation in the gold mining industry, bringing together the world’s largest collection of tier one assets, Under the merger terms, each Randgold shareholder will receive 6.128 new Barrick shares for each Randgold share. The merger would see Barrick shareholders own 66.6 per cent of the enlarged company; Randgold shareholders would own the rest. The deal is expected to close in early 2019. Mr. Thornton has praised Randgold and Mr. Bristow. Randgold’s returns on capital are routinely the highest, or close to them, in the gold sector. “Our industry has been criticized for its short-term focus, undisciplined growth and poor returns on invested capital,” Mr. Bristow said, in a statement. “The merged company will be very different. Its goal will be to deliver sector leading returns.” Unlike Barrick Gold, which has taken billions in write-downs over the years , Randgold has never “written down a penny,” Mr. Thornton said in a conference call with analysts on Monday. Another big advantage of the acquisition for Barrick shareholders according to Mr. Thornton is it is buying a competitor with a proven ability to operate in one of the most challenging jurisdictions in the world. i.e. Africa. Barrick’s subsidiary Acacia Mining PLC, which operates in Africa is currently subject to a gold export ban in Tanzania. Last year, the Tanzanian government accused Acacia of US$200-billion in tax fraud. The combined company will have five tier-one mines, three from Barrick and two from Randgold. Barrick defines a tier 1 mine as one that produces 500,000 ounces of gold a year, has a life of more than 10 years and is low cost. Randgold owns mines in Mali, Ivory Coast, Senegal and the Democratic Republic of Congo. The deal means Barrick likely won’t lose its spot as the world’s biggest gold producer after all. Last year, after Barrick’s production fell to to 5.3 million ounces of gold and the company predicted up to 5 million ounces for this year, it looked like Newmont Mining Corp., which forecast it will produce as much as 5.4 million ounces for 2018 would soon surpass Barrick. By swallowing Randgold, Barrick gains about 1.3 million extra ounces a year in production, which would put it comfortably ahead of its U.S. competitor. In an interview with The Globe and Mail in London earlier this month, Mr. Thornton said he had thrown out the traditional “chasing ounces” growth model in the industry and would focus on free cash flow – the money left over after capital expenditures and operating costs are paid. As CEO, Mr. Bristow will be responsible for the day to day operations of running Barrick. Executive chair Mr. Thornton will work with the board of directors and also continue to work on relationship building with countries like China and deal with geopolitical matters. Both Mr. Bristow and Mr. Thornton will jointly make decisions on large strategic and macro matters. One analyst asked Mr. Bristow whether there is risk for Randgold, which is known for its nimble, decentralized business model, in combining with the much bigger Barrick. “Our intention is to implement the Randgold way,” said Mr. Bristow, which he explained is a flat management structure, with an emphasis on efficiency and the ability to make quick decisions. “John [Thornton] has done a lot of work in cleaning up the baggage,” he added. “There is no culture clash amongst the senior executives between Randgold and Barrick.” Under the terms of the deal, Randgold will cease to trade on the London Stock Exchange. The new combined company will trade on the New York and Toronto stock exchanges. The deal is subject to majority shareholder approval from Barrick’s shareholders and 75 per cent approval from Randgold’s shareholders. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCXeUNeygmZPIOgvCWxAkUw #barrick #barrick gold news #randgold stock #zijin mining #randgold resources #rangold

Once a year, the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) throws the world's largest mining convention in downtown Toronto. This year, the convention featured a track on Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) that was open to the public. The final session of this track was a CEO panel featuring Jamie Sokalsky, the CEO of Barrick Gold. While Sokalsky tried to present Barrick's CSR program as more than just window dressing, I got ahold of the mic to draw attention to the very real and on-going human rights abuses at two of Barrick's mine sites, first in North Mara, Tanzania and then in Porgera, Papua New Guinea. Unfazed by the fact that they turned off my mic, I raised my voice to speak louder about the scale of the devastation in Papua New Guinea. Finally, the security escorted me out as I handed out footnoted fact sheets to the audience at the forum. Barrick's entire board and shareholders will gather this April 24 in Downtown Toronto's Metro Convention Centre's John Basset Theatre at 10am. Please come and confront Barrick yourself... don't let them get away with denying the destruction their are imposing on other communities! FACT SHEET: http://protestbarrick.net/article.php?id=868 This is the text of the fact sheet I distributed at the Prospectors and Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) conference in Toronto on March 5, 2013. It is just the tip of the iceberg regarding Barrick's abuses, but enough points to prove a point that Barrick does not promote sustainable development at their mine sites. The fact sheet also debunks the myth that self-reporting can replace regulation and independent monitoring of mining activity. camera: Zach Ruiter director: Sakura Saunders editors: Zach Ruiter and Sakura Saunders music: Illogik, "The Path"

At this year's Vancouver Resource Investment Conference (VRIC), John Kaiser of Kaiser Research stopped by to chat about some of the junior mining companies on his watch list. Interestingly, he noted that one third of the companies at VRIC also make up one-third of the 100 companies on his latest Bottom Fish report, assembled at the end of 2015. "This is the cream of the crop assembling into this place," he said. And while Kaiser admitted that the sector isn't out of the woods yet, he's taking the stance that "this is it." "We will never, ever again see such an assembly of management talent, inside juniors with good projects, a lot of them still with money, and at an incredible valuation level where the retail investor has never, ever, in my 30 years of experience, had a chance to get access at this type of price to this type of upside potential," he said. After providing a quick overview of how he assesses junior mining companies (hint: they've got to have cash), Kaiser provided an overview of six of the stocks on his list. Watch the full video above for his thoughts. Here's a list of the companies discussed (with time-stamps, in case you'd like to skip ahead): Arizona Mining (TSX:AZ), zinc focus (2:36) Mawson Resources (TSX:MAW), gold focus (4:15) Mirasol Resources (TSXV:MRZ), gold focus (5:21) Regulus Resources (TSXV:REG), copper focus (7:50) Silvercrest Metals (TSXV:SIL), silver focus (9:14) Sirios Resources (TSXV:SOI), gold focus (10:27)
