Arthritis - add this 35p summer fruit to your breakfast to prevent joint pain ARTHRITIS pain could be treated by making changes to your diet and exercise plans. You could prevent joint symptoms by eating more of this cheap fruit, it’s been claimed. Arthritis is a common condition that affects about 10 million people in the UK, according to the NHS. The two most common types of arthritis are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis. Arthritis symptoms include joint pain, inflammation, and restricted movement. You could prevent arthritis pain by adding certain foods to your diet. Watermelon could help to reduce symptoms due to its anti-inflammatory properties. You could lower your risk of rheumatoid arthritis by eating more watermelon, according to the Arthritis Foundation. If you already have the condition, adding more of the fruit to your diet could relieve inflammation pain, it said. Your weight loss diet plan may also benefit from eating watermelon, as it’s primarily made up of water. Obesity increases your risk of painful arthritis symptoms, as too much weight puts extra pressure on the joints. You could also lower your risk of heart attacks and some cancers by eating more watermelon, added the Arthritis Foundation. “Watermelon is another fruit with anti-inflammatory action,” it said. “Studies show it reduces C-reactive protein, a measure of body-wide inflammation linked to arthritis flares and heart disease. “It’s high in the carotenoid beta-cryptoxanthin, which can reduce the risk of rheumatoid arthritis. “It leads the fruit pack in lycopene, an antioxidant that may help protect against certain cancers and lower heart attack risk. “One cup has about 40 per cent more lycopene than raw tomatoes, the next richest raw food source.” You could also lower your risk of arthritis by eating more strawberries, added the Arthritis Foundation. Strawberries are rich in vitamin C, which helps to prevent gout, high blood pressure and cholesterol problems. Arthritis patients should also consider eating more tart cherries, raspberries and avocado, it added. Eating a healthy balanced diet is crucial for arthritis patients to maintain a healthy weight, said the NHS. Diets should include fruits, vegetables, some starchy foods, protein, dairy, and some foods containing fat and sugar.

Energy production & metabolic processes in the body produce harmful byproducts, called free radicals, which damage cells, and implicated in the development of, rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and in the inflammation that attacks joints. Green, leafy vegetables such as broccoli, spinach, Brussels sprouts, kale, Swiss chard and bok choy are packed with antioxidants like vitamins A, C and K, which protect cells from free-radical damage & high in bone-preserving calcium. Vegetables also contain a natural compound called sulforaphane, which blocks, the inflammatory process and might slow cartilage damage in osteoarthritis (OA). On the other hand, Sweet Potatoes, Carrots, Red & Green Peppers and Squash, have distinctive color from carotenoids like beta-cryptoxanthin. Some research suggests that eating more foods rich in beta-cryptoxanthin, could reduce your risk of developing RA, and other inflammatory conditions. These pungent vegetables are rich in a type of antioxidant, called quercetin. Studies show that quercetin’s potential ability to relieve inflammation in diseases like rheumatoid arthritis. Such vegetables also contain a compound, called diallyl disulphine, which may reduce the enzymes that damage cartilage. #3. Olive Oil. Olives and olive oil can be potent inflammation fighters. Extra-virgin olive oil contains the compound oleocanthal, a natural anti-inflammatory agent that has properties similar to the nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), helpful to ease arthritis. Precautions. One should avoid night shade vegetables like, Eggplants, peppers, tomatoes, and potatoes. Avocados Will Not Make You Fat Fast food, chips, soda, white bread, those are all things that will make you fat, avocados…not so much.
