To minimise the man power and human induced mistakes in manufacturing industries, PLC based systems are used for automation of various industrial processes, especially in packaging department. The bottle filling and capping machine is a programmable system which enables user to automate the bottle filling process. In this system empty bottles are placed on the conveyor belt from one end, it is then moved towards water nozzle which is powered by a water pump. Switching of this pump is controlled by a replay board which determines the amount of time pump has to be active hence deciding the water level in water bottle. Once the bottle is filled with the content, it goes to the rotating cylinder which is guided by the stepper motor, where a “cap mounting mechanism” mounts the caps on the bottle. Same rotating cylinder aligns the bottle with the DC motor, where pneumatically actuated piston pushes the DC motor-setup on the cap. With the help of rotational motion from DC motor-setup, caps of the wattle bottles are tightened up. These filled and capped bottles are then transferred to packaging box through next conveyor belt. All these processes are controlled by a programmable logic controller (PLC) i.e these can be easily modified and new processes can be added as per user’s needs. Project 7 - Design & Fabrication on Mini Lathe Machine Lathes have been used on woodworking, metal parts and also on plastic nylon parts for a long time in the industry. So here we study the design and fabrication of a mini lathe machine. This machine consists of a motor with belt arrangement used to drive the lathe chuck. The machine consists of a bed with a movable arrangement. It consists of a holder in order to hold the desired tool in desired position. Project 6 - Automated Double Hacksaw Project We need more and more automated system to make human tasks faster and easier. So here we automate another strenuous work of hacksaw cutting. Human hacksaw cutting is very strenuous and requires a lot of effort. This is not feasible large scale and accurate cutting. So our proposed system automates the hacksaw cutting with double sided technique where we operate 2 hacksaws using a single mechanism. Here a motor is used with the shaft attached. Project 5 - 360 Degree Flexible Drilling Machine Drill machines have been the heart of every industry. Drilling holes on parts, sheets and structures is a regular industrial work. Perfect and well aligned drilling needs fixed and strong drills. Some parts cannot be drilled using fixed drills due to low space between drill bit and drill bed. We need to use hand drills in such cases but hand drills have alignment problems while drilling. Project 4 - Automatic Paper Cutting Machine Using Geneva Mechanism Here we propose the design and fabrication of a fully automated paper cutter based on geneva mechanism. Our proposed system cuts paper pieces of equal lengths based on geneva mechanism. This mechanism ensures paper feed of equal length inserted at proper time intervals. System uses a 12V motor in order to drive the entire system. We use a shaft which is directly connected to the motor. This shaft has a connecting rod which is connected to a scissor in order to drive the cutting mechanism for cutting paper. Projects 3 - E Skateboard With Pressure Sensing The generation of E Skateboards is here where people just need to lean on the Skateboard and the motorized board moves along. Our proposed system is a skateboard that integrates the power of electric motors with the comfort of a skateboard. This makes daily commute easy and effective that is easy to use, does not get stuck in traffic and has no parking issues. The board is fitted with motorized wheels fixed with a belt pulley arrangement powered by an electric motor. The motor is driven by a high capacity light weight battery mounted under the board. Project 2 - Design & Fabrication Of Mechanical Footstep Power Generator Here we propose the design and fabrication of a footstep power generator system. Apart from solar and wind energy systems which rely on external factors like rain and sun, footstep power generator does not rely on any such factors and is a source of renewable energy free of cost and generated through human motion. This system can prove very effective in crowded public places like railway stations as a source to generate renewable power free of cost. Multiple footstep power generators at such places can be used to increase the yield of power generated. Project 1 - Two Wheel Drive Forklift For Industry Warehouses Industries and Storage godowns needs forklifts and cranes for moving large goods for storage and logistic purpose. These goods may weight from 40-60 kgs, which cannot be moved around by human labor. Product Sorting system is a part of Industrial Automation, which plays a key role for packaging finished products in industries like Pharmaceuticals, Cosmetics, Food, Beverage and also services like E-commerce, Courier and Parcel. ‘Pick and place’ is the act of picking things up from one location and placing them at another. This system shown in the video above is ‘Pick and Place’ type product sorting system. Basically, this sorting system has two conveyor belts where one yields metallic products and another yields non-metallic product as output. Here products are fed into first conveyor belt. As the moving product reaches near proximity sensor it sends an electrical signal to the Programmable Logic Controller (PLC), PLC then sends an electrical signal to Pneumatic Solenoid valve. A pneumatic solenoid valve is a device which operates (Open/Close) on the basis of digital input sent to it. Therefore, as the product reaches in front proximity sensor a double acting type cylinder lowers down due to the inlet of pneumatic pressure from the solenoid valve. So, if the product is metallic then it will be lifted up by electromagnet , if the product is non-metallic then it will be left on the first conveyor belt itself. This lifting is done by a strong electromagnet, attracting only metal products. Now, another Pneumatic Cylinder places the lifted product on top of the second conveyor belt, where the piston lowers down and places the metallic product. During the entire ‘Pick and Place’ process the conveyor belts is switched off (put steady) by PLC. A proximity sensor senses the placement of product on second conveyor belt for efficient conveyor transfer, belt is turned on, this moving conveyor belt puts the product in the bin. The video shows the demonstration of “PLC Based Sorting System Using Metal Detection”. As the name suggest this sorting machine project consist a PLC (programmable logic controller) to automate the machine. This system of sorting products is optimised to differentiate between product on the basis of their metallic property, which is done with the help of a metal detector. A continuous conveyor belt carries the products and a pair of pneumatically actuated pistons pushes them in the sorting bin. In a nutshell, this system two sensors, a metal detector and a proximity sensor. When the conveyor belts carries the products, it goes through a metal detector, if it’s a metal product the first piston push the product to the container, and the skipped product goes further to the second piston, which detect the incoming product using the proximity sensor and push the product into another container. Most of the dustbins out there are manually operated for disposing waste and one needs to keep track whether the bin is full or not. The proposed system utilizes a clap sensor circuit to automate the disposing of the waste. One can use a clapping action to operate and open the disposal bin. The clap sensor circuit used in the system to automate, consist of Microphone Sensor in order to sense the clapping sounds. The 2 Pin MIC is an acoustic-to-electric transducer or a sensor that converts sound into an electrical signal. The IOT functions enables the user the ability of accessing anything which is connected to IOT, using a basic internet connection. In last two decades, there has been a rapid growth in demands of manufactured products of every category. Implementation of automation in manufacturing process helps in meeting this increase in demand. Product sorting system is an integral part of the packaging department in any industry. Automatic sorting systems allow for fast and efficient sorting of products, and this sorting process is often done on the basis of certain property of the product itself, example: on the basis of size, color, weight and so on. This system shown here does the sorting process on the basis of the color of the product. It has a specially built, high sensitivity optical color sensor, which sends the color data of the “product in proximity” to the PLC via a processing circuitry. Sorting system also consists of a pneumatically actuated piston which pushes the particular colored product from conveyor belt to the separation bin. These pistons are controlled by solenoid valves through air pressure, where these solenoid valve is controlled by Programmable Logic Controller (PLC). The PLC coordinates with sensors and piston valves in order to achieve the desired functionality and demonstrate the fully automated Color Based Product Sorting System. Suppose we had a “Button Pressing Alerting System”, she may never get the chance to press the panic button if say, she gets hit on the head from behind. In such a case no one will know that she is in trouble. This system shown in the demonstration solves this problem. This device is to be switched on in advance by a woman in case she is walking on a lonely road or some dark alley or any remote area. Only the woman authenticated to the device can start the system by fingerprint scan. Once started this device requires the women to constantly put the finger on the system every 1 minute, else the system sends her location to the authorized personnel through SMS message as a security measure and also sounds a buzzer continuously so that nearby person may realize the situation. In a case where due to mishap woman falls down and get unconscious, she does not need to do anything, when the system does not get her finger scan in 1 minute it automatically starts the dual security feature. This device thus will prove to be very useful in saving lives as well as preventing atrocities against women. This video shows the demonstration of “Wireless Humanoid/Bionic Arm on Robotic Vehicle”. There has always been a compelling requirement of the system which can be remotely operated and has high degree of manoeuvre with accurate control over its every movement. The presence of these systems is indispensable in performing remotely operated precise tasks and for working in hazardous environments. This system has two wireless controllers mounted on gloves, one for each hand of the operator. Here system precisely replicates the finger motion of one hand of the operator onto the motion of the humanoid arm. The RF receiver is interfaced with 8051 microcontroller to control the driver IC which is responsible for controlling the movement of the arm. The transmitter circuit consists of an accelerometer sensor which is interfaced to atmega microcontroller. This transmitter circuit sends commands to the receiver circuit which indicates whether to move the robotic arm in any directions or whether to grip an object or release it. Also using the hand gestures of the other hand of the operator, motion of robotic vehicle is controlled.
