Video Of Man Rescuing Rabbit From Fire Goes Viral
With fires continuing to rage across Southern California, burning through more than 90,000 acres by Thursday morning, video footage captured by the public escaping the blaze has filled social media. Among the clips, several show animal rescues. Earlier in the week, people rallied to save a horse that fell into a crevice while attempting to escape the fires, who is now expected to make a full recovery thanks to human intervention. And as the fires spread across Highway 1 in Ventura County, video of a rabbit darting across lanes of traffic and into a burning bush captured the moment when a man went in for a daring animal rescue. With smoke and flames all around, the man attempts to first locate the rabbit, but the search proves difficult, and leads to frustration, after which, shouting dramatically and wading into the brush, the man flushes out the rabbit, scoops him up, and clutches him to his body as the video ends. https://www.mnn.com/earth-matters/animals/videos/watch-man-rescues-rabbit-wildfires-and-restores-your-faith-humanity http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Why Does Mexico Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day In A Big Way?
In the U.S., St. Patrick’s Day is usually celebrated with lots of parades and even more beer. Mexico shows its Irish pride in a different way. The day is celebrated as a sort-of military holiday, in honor of El Batallón de los San Patricios. Saint Patrick’s Battalion was a group of European immigrants and expatriates, overwhelmingly Irish, who had defected from the United States army to fight alongside Mexico during the U.S.-Mexico War of 1846-48. Their reason for deserting is largely attributed to religion. The U.S. and its army, was majority Protestant, and the Catholic servicemen felt marginalized and reminded of their experience under Protestant British rule in Ireland, so they fled to the Catholic confines of Mexico. http://fusion.net/story/282037/st-patricks-battalion-mexico-ireland/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Seattle Sees Unexpected Consequences From $15 Per Hour Min. Wage
Low wage workers in Seattle who spent months agitating for a city-wide $15-per-hour minimum wage were quite successful in their quest. But many have suddenly found that the new rate has had unexpected consequences. Some workers across the city are left telling bosses to give them fewer hours at the higher wage because a full week’s earnings now puts them past the threshold for some welfare payments such as food stamps and assistance with rent. There have been other unforeseen consequences to the higher wage. Some restaurants are tacking on a 15 percent surcharge onto customer’s bills in order to avoid firing workers. Other stores, restaurants, and small businesses are simply closing down because they can’t afford the wage hike. By March of this year, for instance, restaurant closings increased at a much higher than average rate in Seattle. Many restaurants noted that the new wage put labor costs at nearly 50 percent of operating costs, and that made profit margins disappear. http://www.breitbart.com/big-government/2015/07/24/seattle-sees-unexpected-fallout-from-15-per-hour-min-wage/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by O&O Story Selection using http://wochit.com

Surprise! 7-week Old Baby Says "Hello"
Most babies usually wait until they are at least one year old before they utter their first word. So a mother from Northern Ireland remained speechless recently, when her seven-WEEK-old son did this: ][ The surprised mom, Toni McCann, said she sensed her son Cillian was trying to mimic her before ultimately uttering "Hello". "If I hadn't videoed it, I’m sure people wouldn't have believed me", she told the Daily Mail, adding that she probably wouldn't have believed it herself. null http://www.wochit.com

Japan Building "Great Wall" Against Tsunamis
Four years after the tsunami ravaged much of its northeastern coast and killed over eighteen-thousand people, Japan is constructing a nearly 250-mile chain of cement seawalls to fend off future towering waves. Opponents of the 6.8 billion dollar wall, which in some places will reach nearly five stories high, say that the massive concrete barrier will damage marine ecology and scenery and hinder vital fisheries. Moreover, it will do only little to protect residents, and even worse - it'll foster complacency. Instead, they call for people to either move to higher ground, or to create a "green wall" of trees that perhaps won't stop the floods, but will weaken the impact of the waves. However those in favor of the "great wall", say it's a necessary evil, and one that will provide some jobs, at least for a time. http://bigstory.ap.org/article/35d608bb1ebe4766b33146e39b6044ba/japan-opts-massive-costly-sea-wall-fend-tsunamis http://www.wochit.com

Two Tanzanian U.N. Peacekeepers Killed in Congo Ambush
The country's U.N. mission said Two United Nations peacekeepers from Tanzania were killed in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo on Tuesday when their patrol was ambushed in an area where government forces are fighting Ugandan rebels. Felix Basse, spokesman for the mission known as MONUSCO, told Reuters the peacekeepers were attacked in the village of Kikiki, around 30 miles north of the town of Beni in North Kivu province. He said, "The ambush took place today, this afternoon ... The death toll is two and we have a couple of injured." The Congolese army said earlier on Tuesday that it had killed 16 Ugandan Allied Democratic Forces rebels during fierce fighting in the same zone over the weekend. Tuesday's ambush was the second attack on U.N. forces in the area in 48 hours after a MONUSCO helicopter was fired upon by unidentified gunmen on Monday. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/iXpXnbE9dlw/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Elon Musk Unveils the World’s Most Efficient Solar Panel
Elon Musk is basically trying to save the world. Just a few days after announcing Tesla’s all-electric SUV called the Model X, his latest step is creating world’s most efficient rooftop solar panel. On Friday, SolarCity, the company he chairs, announced it will start producing panels with a module efficiency exceeding 22%. But thanks to the efficiencies, the panels will produce 30-40% more power than a standard issue solar panels despite being of comparable size. They will be available for most customers starting in 2017. The company also said the panels will be manufactured at its new Buffalo, New York facility, a unique feature given that almost all other solar panels are made in China. http://fusion.net/story/208036/elon-musk-solarcity-solar-panel-record/?utm_source=rss&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=/feed/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Russian Planes Fly Near US Warship
According to the Pentagon, Russian warplanes have made several close passes in recent days over a US destroyer sailing in the Black Sea. Russian state media reported that the USS Ross was acting "aggressively". The US Department of Defense, however, said the ship was "well within international waters at all times, performing routine operations". The US Navy released video on Monday of a Russian plane passing as close as 500 meters to the USS Ross. Pentagon spokesman Col. Steve Warren said on Monday that the Russian planes were not armed with weapons and the USS Ross maintained its course. The Pentagon added that the ship's deployment to the Black Sea had been publicly announced. The Black Sea encounters are the latest sign of military tension between Russian and the West, amid hostilities in eastern Ukraine. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-32969336#sa-ns_mchannel=rss&ns_source=PublicRSS20-sa http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Banksy Confirms He's Behind New Mural In South Wales
On Tuesday, street artist Banksy confirmed on Instagram that he is responsible for a mysterious piece of artwork that appeared in South Wales that morning. Banksy placed the work on two walls of a garage owned by a local steelworker in the Taibach area of Port Talbot. According to CNN, the art, which appears to pay homage to the town's industrial past, depicts a child playing in what looks like snow, but is actually ash from a skip fire. In July, properties and cars were covered with black dust from the town's steelworks, which has been suggested as a potential inspiration for the work. https://www.cnn.com/style/article/banksy-port-talbot-wales-gbr-scli/index.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Extraterrestrial Organic Matter Discovered In 3.3-Billion-Year-Old Volcanic Rock
Geologists in France and Italy have spotted what appear to be organic molecules from outer space in 3.3-billion-year-old rocks in South Africa, according to a new study. By now, we know that organic molecules, from methane to amino acids, exist in space, and perhaps some of these molecules were brought to our own planet via carbon-containing asteroids. A small range called the Makhonjwa Mountains or the Barberton Greenstone Belt sits in eastern South Africa and Swaziland, and contains a 23-to-66 foot thick deposit of 3.3-billion-year-old volcanic rock called the Josefdal Chert. In essence, the researchers measured how the samples’ electrons responded to a slowly changing magnetic field. https://gizmodo.com/extraterrestrial-organic-matter-found-in-3-3-billion-ye-1835005557 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Why the U.S. Military Pushed Helicopters Overboard in the Vietnam War
In the final year of the Vietnam War, a series of offensives by the North Vietnamese led to the fall of the South Vietnamese capital Saigon on April 30, 1975. As the North Vietnamese Viet Cong approached Saigon, South Vietnamese citizens and American personnel fled before them, and the U.S. government began a program of mass evacuations. People were helicoptered away, sometimes under fire, to waiting American warships. The final phase of the evacuation was code-named Operation Frequent Wind. This included a map of Saigon showing areas where they would be picked up when the signal was given. Frequent Wind was carried out on April 29 and 30. Such was the speed of the evacuation and the number of people involved that the ships became overwhelmed with people and the helicopters that had brought them. Orders were given to push surplus helicopters over the sides of the ships to make room for more. Some pilots were told to drop off their passengers, then ditch their machines in the sea, bailing out at the last moment to be picked up by waiting rescue boats. Over 7,000 people were evacuated in Operation Frequent Wind. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/dPc28CAsJQE/ http://www.wochit.com

Here Are Five Facts About the Little-Known Pangolin
Here are five facts about the little-known Pangolin: 1. Pangolin’s scales are made of keratin, which is the same material found in a rhino's horn. A pangolin's tongue can be longer than its body. Pangolins don't have very good eyesight. Pangolins can live in trees or in the ground. Some species climb trees by using their claws to grip on to overhanging branches, while others use their claws to dig holes in the ground. Four of the species are found in Asia and the four others are found in Africa. http://www.bbc.co.uk/newsround/37470783' http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Joe Biden Attends Son Beau Biden's Emotional Funeral
Beau Biden's viewing service was emotional to say the least. Vice President Joe Biden, whose son tragically passed away from brain cancer five days ago at the young age of 46, was surrounded by friends and family Thursday at Beau's public service and viewing at Legislative Hall in Dover, Delaware. Biden, his wife Jill Biden, Beau's wife and kids and the rest of their family were understandably emotional while watching honor guards carry Beau's casket, which was draped with an American flag. The famous family shed tears as they said goodbye to the former Attorney General, who had been battling brain cancer for several years. Trees In The Amazon Make Their Own Rain
The Amazon rainforest is home to strange weather. One peculiarity is that rains begin 2 to 3 months before seasonal winds start to bring in moist air from the ocean. Researchers say they have finally figured out where this early moisture comes from: the trees themselves. The study provides concrete data for something scientists had theorized for a long time. Previous research showed early accumulation of moisture in the atmosphere over the Amazon, but scientists weren’t sure why. Satellite data showed that the increase coincided with a “greening” of the rainforest, or an increase in fresh leaves, leading researchers to suspect the moisture might be water vapor released during photosynthesis. In a process called transpiration, plants release water vapor from small pores on the underside of their leaves. Scientists thought it was possible that plants were releasing enough moisture to build low-level clouds over the Amazon. And after observing the water vapor over the Amazon with NASA’s Aura satellite, they proved the theory to be true. http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/08/trees-amazon-make-their-own-rain http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

The Less Obvious, Early Symptoms Of Parkinson's Disease
When you think of Parkinson’s disease, you probably picture tremors and Michael J. Fox, but a more telling early indicator is handwriting that suddenly gets much smaller. According to Reader's Digest, a 2013 Israeli study found handwriting analysis was able to identify patients in the early stages of Parkinson’s more than 97 per cent of the time. Other early indications of the condition can include a loss of smell. If you stop noticing pungent cologne and aren’t drawn to the aroma of mouth-watering food, pay attention. Intense dreams that cause you to thrash and kick in your bed can also be an indicator. When any of these symptoms last more than a couple of weeks, see a neurologist. The earlier the disease is diagnosed, and the sooner you get control of the symptoms, the better your quality of life will be. http://www.readersdigest.ca/health/conditions/10-red-flag-symptoms/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

What Will $35 Quadrillion Zimbabwe Dollars Get You?
On June 15 the Reserve Bank of Zimbabwe took the last step in the process of ditching its currency. Zimbabwe dollars will be decommissioned at a rate of 35 quadrillion per US dollar. Any remaining Zimbabwe dollars in circulation after September 30 2015 will be officially, as opposed to practically, worthless. Withdrawing all Zimbabwe dollar banknotes from circulation officially brings an end to the era of people carrying cash around in large bags and even wheelbarrows to do their everyday shopping. In 2009, the end of the decade long recession saw the government adopt the US dollar as its main currency. Since then people have effectively used US dollars or South African rand in everyday life, while an increasingly small number of Zimbabwe dollars (with virtually no value) remained in circulation. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/PdefnkVOPo0/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by Wochit using http://wochit.com

Scientists Use Stem Cell Therapy To Treat Leading Cause Of Blindness
2 (UPI) -- Researchers made advances toward creating stem cell-derived retinal cells used to treat a leading cause of blindness, scientists at the National Eye Institute said. NEI scientists found that tiny tube-like protrusions called primary cilia on a layer of cells in the back of the eye, known as the retinal pigment epithelium, are essential for the survival of the retina's light-sensing photoreceptors, according to a new study published in the journal Cell Reports. The discovery has advanced scientists' ability to use induced-pluripotent stem cells to create adult RPE for transplants to treat patients with geographic atrophy -- or dry age-related macular degeneration -- a leading cause of blindness in the United States. https://www.upi.com/Health_News/2018/01/02/Scientists-advance-stem-cell-therapy-for-a-leading-cause-of-blindness/8571514929118/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Scientists Extract DNA From A Mummy
Ancient Egyptian mummies are known to preserve many details of the once-living: facial features, signs of illness, and even tattoos. But not, it seemed, DNA. After repeated failure in extracting the molecule, many scientists had been convinced that the hot desert climate and the chemicals used in the process of mummification would have destroyed any remnant of genetic material long ago. Now a team of ancient DNA specialists has successfully sequenced genomes from 90 ancient Egyptian mummies. The study, led by Johannes Krause, a geneticist at the Max Planck Institute for the Science of Human History in Jena, Germany, reportedly used next-generation sequencing methods to read stretches of any DNA present in a sample and successfully fished out those that resembled human DNA. http://www.sciencemag.org/news/2017/05/scientists-thought-ancient-egyptian-mummies-didn-t-have-any-dna-left-they-were-wrong http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Archaeologists In Germany Open 1,000-Year-Old Sarcophagus Found In Church
According to a report by CNN, archaeologists in the German city of Mainz have exhumed a 1,000 year old sarcophagus, uncovering the decomposed remains of what may be a former Archbishop who died in the 11th century. The stone coffin was first uncovered through excavations within St. Johannis Church in 2017, when a corner of the receptacle was revealed beneath the church floor. CNN reports that samples of fabric uncovered within the sarcophagus will be sent to a textile expert in order to determine their age, while bone and tissue samples will undergo carbon dating and DNA testing. Guido Faccani, the lead archaeologist, reportedly said that the remains could have belonged to Erkanbald, who was Archbishop of Mainz from 1011 until his death in 1021, but noted that further research would be required to verify this claim. https://www.cnn.com/travel/article/mainz-sarcophagus-discovery-intl-scli-grm/index.html http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Woman With ALS Holds Goodbye Party Before Ending Own Life
In early July, Betsy Davis emailed her closest friends and relatives to invite them to a two-day party, telling them: "These circumstances are unlike any party you have attended before, requiring emotional stamina, centeredness and openness." And just one rule: No crying in front of her. The 41-year-old artist had ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's disease. According to the Associated Press, Davis held the gathering to say goodbye before becoming one of the first Californians to take a lethal dose of drugs under the state's new doctor-assisted suicide law for the terminally ill. Davis spent months planning her exit, feeling empowered after spending the last three years losing control of her body bit by bit. The painter and performance artist could no longer stand, brush her teeth or scratch an itch. Her caretakers had to translate her slurred speech for others. Wearing a Japanese kimono she bought on a bucket-list trip she took after being diagnosed in 2013, she looked out at her last sunset and took the drugs at 6:45 p.m. with her caretaker, her doctor, her massage therapist and her sister by her side. Humvee Auction Hammers Home Strong Prices
The U.S. Military recently held its first-ever public auction of its surplus Humvee supply, and the results were good. Each Humvee had a starting price of $10,000, but the average transaction price was around $30,000. The lowest someone paid to take home one of the brutes was $21,500, while a top-end bid saw a Humvee trade for $41,000. According to Military.com, the total amount spent at the auction comes to $744,000. That's a ton of dough for a bunch of vehicles that aren't even street legal. Baltimore's National Aquarium Will Create Dolphin Sanctuary With Natural Habitat
Baltimore's National Aquarium will create the first U.S. dolphin sanctuary and transfer its eight dolphins there, the aquarium said on Tuesday. The move comes after five years of study and as the U.S. public has grown increasingly uneasy about keeping dolphins and whales in captivity, Chief Executive John Racanelli said in a statement. Creating the outdoor, seawater sanctuary poses a challenge since all but one of the colony of six female and two male dolphins was born in an aquarium or a zoo, Racanelli said. One female, Nani, was born in the wild in 1972. The dolphins will also have to learn how to be ocean-dwelling creatures. The site will be much larger than the dolphins' current habitat, and it will have more natural stimuli, such as fish and marine plants. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/domesticNews/~3/89w-NYpHWRM/us-usa-environment-dolphins-idUSKCN0Z0214 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

India Builds First 'smart' City as Urban Population Swells
India's push to accommodate a booming urban population and attract investment rests in large part with dozens of "smart" cities like the one being built on the dusty banks of the Sabarmati river in western state Gujarat. So far, it boasts modern underground infrastructure, two office blocks and not much else. The plan, however, is for a meticulously planned metropolis complete with gleaming towers, drinking water on tap, automated waste collection and a dedicated power supply - luxuries to many Indians. With an urban population set to double at 814 million people by 2050, India faces the kind of mass urbanization only seen before in China. Ahead of his election last May, Prime Minister Narendra Modi promised 100 so-called smart cities by 2022 to help meet the rush. http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/Reuters/worldNews/~3/K4E_tbpmqk8/story01.htm http://www.wochit.com

Astronomers Discover Deep Lakes Of Methane On Titan
According to a report by Digital Trends, in the two years since the Cassini probe ended its mission by burning up in the rings of Saturn, data from its recordings is still being analyzed and astronomers are making surprising findings. Digital Trends reports that the latest research using the Cassini data has shown that Saturn’s largest moon, Titan, hosts deep liquid lakes of methane. Using radar data, astronomers were reportedly able to test the depth of the lakes found in Titan’s northern hemisphere. Scientists reportedly discovered that some were more than 100 meters or 300 feet deep, making Titan the only body in our solar system other than Earth to host stable liquid on its surface. https://www.digitaltrends.com/cool-tech/titan-methane-lakes/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

700 Migrants Feared Dead in Mediterranean Shipwreck
A major rescue operation is under way in the Mediterranean after as many as 700 migrants are feared to have drowned on Sunday, in what could prove to be the worst disaster yet involving migrants being smuggled to Europe. According to reports, the accident happened 60 miles off the Libyan coast and 120 miles south of the Italian island of Lampedusa, after the migrants saw a merchant ship in the distance, scrambled to attract its attention - and over-balanced their boat. Italian coastguards have retrieved dozens of survivors so far. But based on numbers given by survivors, the UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR, said that up to 700 more could still be in the water. Only last week, 400 immigrants drowned in a similar incident, and those deaths prompted fresh calls for Europe to reinstate full-scale search-and-rescue operations in the Mediterranean. http://www.theguardian.com/world/2015/apr/19/700-migrants-feared-dead-mediterranean-shipwreck-worst-yet http://www.wochit.com

Newly Discovered Ancient Carnivore Is True Nightmare Fuel
New research describes the remains of a gigantic, four-legged mammalian carnivore that terrorized Africa some 22 million years ago. The name of this formidable creature is Simbakubwa kutokaafrika, which translated from Swahili means “big lion coming from Africa.” But this was no feline—it belonged to an extinct group of mammals known as hyaenodonts, which have no close relation to any species of mammalian carnivore living today. Larger than a polar bear, and with a head as big as a rhino’s, Simbakubwa spent its time as an apex predator in Eastern Africa around 22 million years ago, eventually going extinct under mysterious circumstances. https://gizmodo.com/newly-discovered-ancient-carnivore-was-bigger-than-a-po-1834136617 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

How Teens Are Affected By Technology
‘Screenagers: Growing Up in the Digital Age,’ is a documentary that discusses and directs both modern-day internet and phone addiction. According to new studies, a modern-American teenager spend six and a half hours looking at digital devices every day. 60 percent of teenagers in a newly conducted study said that they text and use social media while doing homework, and 76 percent of them listen to music. Sherry Turkle, a noted sociologist say this is hurting more than helping. She states, “What’s extraordinary about the studies on multitasking is, even though you’re doing worse and worse on everything you’re doing, you feel as though you’re doing better and better.” Teenagers will soon need to lower their tech usage. https://www.cnet.com/news/teen-tech-smartphone-addiction-screenagers-snapchat-google/#ftag=CAD590a51e http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

U.S. Navy Fires Warning Shots at Iranian Military Vessel in Persian Gulf
A U.S. Navy patrol boat fired warning shots at an Iranian military vessel that approached it at high speed Tuesday. The incident happened in the Northern Persian Gulf and marks the latest confrontation between Iranian and American military ships in the area. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps Navy (IRGCN) vessel approached the USS Thunderbolt and three other U.S. ships that were conducting routine exercises. They said the skiff failed to react to bridge-to-bridge communications nor did it respond to five short blasts, a sound warning for possible danger, coming as close as 150 yards. The Thunderbolt, a Cyclone-class patrol ship based in Bahrain as part of the U.S. Navy’s 5th Fleet, fired several warning shots as a result. Officials said the Iranian vessel did have guns on board but they were not manned and initially remained covered. Although it did uncover its guns after the warning shots were fired, the weapons remained unmanned and by this point the ship had stopped. The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps said in a statement released via state news agency Fars that the boat was "on routine patrol in the Persian gulf when the American vessel came alongside it and fired warning shots, the Iranian boat carried on course with its patrol and that the action of the Americans was extremely unprofessional." http://www.nbcnews.com/news/world/u-s-navy-fires-warning-shots-iranian-military-vessel-persian-n786336?cid=public-rss_20170725 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Serbia Says It Won't Impose Sanctions On Russia
Serbian Prime Minister Aleksandar Vucic said Friday, despite pressure from the European Union, Serbia will not impose sanctions against Russia or curb its food exports to that country. After the U.S. and the EU slapped sanctions on Russian state banks and major industries last month over the crisis in Ukraine, Russia responded with a wide-ranging ban on food products imported from those countries. Serbian officials have said that they hope to increase the food and agricultural exports to Russia from the current $170 million a year to $300 million. Vucic said Friday his government will accept the EU's demands not to additionally subsidize those exports, but will not prevent Serbian companies from making the deals. The EU has warned candidate countries to refrain from "exploiting" the Russian ban by increasing their exports. https://news.yahoo.com/serbia-says-wont-impose-sanctions-115403613.html http://www.wochit.com

Dolphins Speak In Sentences Up To Five "Words" Long
The extent of communication between dolphins has been unknown until now. Researchers at the Karadag Nature Reserve, in Feodosia, Russia have recorded two Black Sea bottlenose dolphins by the names Yasha and Yana. The recordings reveal the two having conversations consisting of sentences up to five words in length. According to the team, this shows dolphins have a language not entirely dissimilar from our own. A new underwater microphone that could distinguish between different sounds the animals made was used. They found there was an eerily human-like flow to the conversation between Yasha and Yana. The animals would take turns producing pulses and clicks with up to five distinct sounds. The sounds have been compared to words. The other dolphin would wait for the “sentence” to be complete before replying. http://www.geek.com/science/scientists-discover-dolphins-talk-to-each-other-in-sentences-up-to-five-words-long-1670488/ http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Daniel Holtzclaw Denied New Trial
Daniel Holtzclaw, the former Oklahoma City police officer found guilty of raping and sexually assaulting women in the community he patrolled, was denied a new trial Thursday. Holtzclaw’s attorneys filed the motion for a new trial on Wednesday. The motion accuses the prosecution of withholding potentially exculpatory evidence based on a Facebook post written by an Oklahoma City police detective. He is scheduled to be sentenced later Thursday. In December, a jury found Holtzclaw guilty of 18 of the 36 charges stemming from the accounts of 13 black women, all of whom testified during his trial. http://www.buzzfeed.com/jtes/daniel-holtzclaw-sentencing-expected?utm_term=4ldqpia http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Propel Renewable Diesel: Usable By Any Vehicle, Going Beyond 'Biodiesel'
Fuels produced using plant-based materials can offer a promising way to reduce the carbon emitted by road vehicles. That's because their plant feedstocks absorb carbon dioxide from the air, bringing them far closer to a carbon-neutral footprint than any fuel refined from crude oil. But for diesel-powered vehicles, the term "biodiesel" is used loosely and imprecisely--and often covers anything from plant-derived fuels to burning used deep-frier grease in your converted old Mercedes. So last month's announcement that California-based Propel Fuels launched North America’s first retail rollout of High Performance Renewable diesel deserves some attention. That's because "renewable diesel" is indistinguishable from conventional diesel fuel to any engine using compression ignition. The fuel sold by Propel is a 98-perent blend of Neste Oil’s fuel, refined from renewable biomass. The scale of the rollout is larger than a mere trial: 18 stations throughout Northern California. You can expect to hear more about renewable diesel fuel as states work to lower the carbon content of their fuel. http://www.greencarreports.com/news/1097856_propel-renewable-diesel-usable-by-any-vehicle-going-beyond-biodiesel http://www.wochit.com

Send Your Name To Mars Aboard The 2020 Rover
NASA is offering to fly your name to the Red Planet—etched onto a microchip—aboard the Mars 2020 rover. According to Geek.com, the spacecraft is scheduled to launch as early as next summer, and should touch down on Earth’s sister planet in February 2021. Scientists at NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory will use an electron beam to stencil submitted names onto a silicon chip. A single dime-sized chip can fit more than a million names as each line of text is smaller than one-thousandth the width of a human hair. The component will ride on the rover under a glass cover. The probe will look for signs of past microbial lift, characterize the planet’s climate and geology, collect samples for future return to Earth, and ultimately pave the way for human exploration. https://www.geek.com/news/send-your-name-to-mars-aboard-the-2020-rover-1788207/?source http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Queen's Favourite Dog Breed, the Corgi, at Risk of Dying Out
Queen Elizabeth's favorite breed of dog, the corgi, is in trouble. Carline Kisko of the Kennel Club told BBC Radio that the corgi has been put on the British Kennel Club's list of vulnerable dog breeds for the very first time. IShe says in 2014, only 274 new corgi puppies were registered in the UK. And Kisko says, "Any breed, which has fewer than 300 registrations in a year is classified as being vulnerable." The club estimates there are around 5,000 corgis left in the UK, but breeders are not breeding that many as they're worried there are no homes for them to go to. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/oLzwYFCWXuo/ http://www.wochit.com

Russia Warns Against Using Tanker Attacks To Pressure Iran
According to a report by Reuters, on Thursday, Russia cautioned against rushing to attributing blame for a suspected attack on oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, and warned that the incident should not be used to stoke tensions with Tehran. Shipping firms claim that two oil tankers were involved in the attack, which was the second incident to occur near the Strait of Hormuz in just a month. Russia’s RIA news agency quoted Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov as saying, “I would take the opportunity to warn against hasty conclusions, against attempts to lay the blame at the door of those we don’t like." http://feeds.reuters.com/~r/reuters/topNews/~3/WRWIM1IA7PM/russia-says-dont-use-tanker-attacks-to-pressure-iran-ria-idUSKCN1TE1X6 http://www.wochit.com This video was produced by YT Wochit News using http://wochit.com

Boston Marathon Bomber Cries During Death Penalty Trial
For the first time in court, Boston Marathon bomber Dzhokhar Tsarnaev dropped his blank, impassive demeanor and cried as his sobbing aunt briefly took the stand Monday in his federal death penalty trial. The 21-year-old Tsarnaev wiped tears from his eyes quickly and fidgeted in his chair as his mother's sister sobbed uncontrollably. He had maintained an uninterested expression since his trial began in January. The aunt, Patimat Suleimanova, cried as she sat down about 10 feet from Tsarnaev. The tears began falling before she began to testify, and she was only able to answer questions about her name, her year of birth and where she was born. After a few minutes, Judge George O'Toole Jr. suggested that the defense call a different witness so she could compose herself. As she left the witness stand, Tsarnaev used a tissue to wipe his eyes and nose. http://feeds.mashable.com/~r/Mashable/~3/jNFyWzv4G1k/ http://www.wochit.com
